I actually think property taxes should be done away with and perhaps a system of a base tax per person should be in place to cover essential services plus a fair percentage taken out of income taxes. That way, everyone will pay something and those that can afford it will pay extra. There are a lot of 7 figure incomes who are not paying their fair share.
I am an old timer and I feel for the newcomers in property buying in California. I want it to change for everyone, and what HJTA is doing is trying to protect what is in place. If HJTA did not have to fight to save Prop 13 yearly, then they could focus their attention and lobby for lower taxes for everyone.
It is not the fault of HJTA. It is the fault of tax and spend politicians and I could name many instances of where I would ask "where is the money going to and why isn't the problem fixed"? I am instantly thinking of homelessness and the flood zone in Sacramento. Billions are given by the Federal government to solve these problems, but we keep taking steps backward. I am convinced it is job security for the politicians. We don't need them if we didn't have continuing problems.
At least someone is doing something.
This association is tried to used scare tactic to lure consumers to joined his
association without depth consideration. Lets say The case like us - we moved
from Virginia to bay area in 2009, we have to pay the taxes at the market value of 2009.
our taxes was almost $18,000. Just about same house, my neighbor only pays around $2000. So, I am paying 9 times more taxes, and we are in mid 80's. It means all our social security money will go to property taxes, how can we live? This taxes system
is total unfair, and this association wants to put it into permanent law. It is rediculious.
It means all late comers to own property are paying for old timers. It is so unfair, and he
wants to make it legal. I don't think so!!
Why haven't you returned to Virginia?
