Review: On 6/22 I stayed at Howard Johnson's in Billings. The room was prepaid in advance via Priceline for $69. The room stank, so I opened the windows to see two SUV's pull up next to my Lexus, 3 black men got out, 2 were looking into my car, the drivers of both SUV's stayed in the SUV behind the wheel with their cars running for over two hours. I have never seen such odd behavior in my life. I called a police officer who said I had just cause to be concerned and get out of there, I got no sleep that night due to getting sick from the fumes and the loud partying going on all night in the parking lot and hotel.

When I called Priceline to see if I could cancel and go to a safer hotel, they contacted the manager who refused to refund my money. The next morning, when I went to check out and asked for a new receipt, I saw they charged me an additional $40 for the night before plus $11.20 in taxes, for a total of $121.19, which the IRS said was way above MT hotel tax rate. When I told them they couldn't legally charge a customer who's already more money, they told me they did it because I complained and told me to get my racist white a... out of their hotel. Then I got an email a week later from Priceline's Booking.com stating how the hotel called them and said I had stayed 2 nights and got authorization to charge my card another $69 for a night I didn't stay there.Desired Settlement: I want a full refund of $121.19 from their unauthorized charge the first night and the additional charge of $69 for a night I didn't stay there. I found out through reading complaints on GeneralHotels.com reviews that they have done this to others customers.

Review: I had made online reservations to say at the Howard Johnson from 02/16-14-02/18/14 to stay in suite 102. When I had gone to check in, first of all the room was not ready for me to check in. So in the mean time, the front desk clerk gave me the room cards and checked me in anyways and told me they would call me when the room was ready. I was fine with that. I finally had to call the front desk to inquire if my room was ready because I had not received a phone call as I was told I would when the room was ready. The front desk said the room was ready so we proceed to go to the room. We get in the room and it had a very foul odor. The microwave had a left over piece of pizza left in it. The floors were sticky and full of crumbs. There were splatter stains all across the ceiling by the microwave. The bathroom smelled like old pee. It did not look like a suite should look for the amount of money we were paying for it. There were also some exposed wires on the ground that was very dangerous. We were not there for more than an hour before we decided not to stay there. I called the front desk and asked the manager to come to the room so we could point out to her all the issues with the room to her. The General Manager came down and had an attitude right away. We advised her that we were not going to stay in the room and we wanted to cancel our stay. She took me back to the front desk and advised me that she would not charge us since we were only there for an hour at the most. Although it did take about 45 minutes for the General Manager to come to the room. [redacted], who is the General Manager of Howard Johnson took me to the front desk to cancel my reservations and take my card information out of the system. This is what I thought she was doing. She did give me a receipt for the cancellation, which I had hung on to for about a month after all of this happened. I just finally threw it away about 2 weeks ago because I figured I did not need it any longer. Since this occurred in February, I have been checking on my account everyday to make sure I was not being charged by Howard Johnson. I went into my account on Sunday 04/13/14 and noticed the Howard Johnson debited my account for $400.76 on 04/08/14, TWO months after cancelling my reservations. I called right away on Sunday and spoke to [redacted]l, who at the time, I did not know she was the General Manager, and told her about the situation. She said she was going to research and call be back the next day. I never received a phone call from her. I called back on Monday 04/14/14 and spoke to a manager named Lori. Explained the situation and that I was expecting a call back from [redacted]. Lori again took my information and said she would let her manager know as well to what was going on and call me back. Still no call back from anyone. I finally called again today, Wednesday 04/16/14 and finally was able to speak to the General Manager [redacted]l and asked her what she found out. First of all she was very rude to me right off the bat. She informed me there was nothing she could do. I said that I am not paying for somewhere that I did not stay. She said she would not refund me back my money. I asked her if I could speak to her supervisor or can she provide me with a phone number for corporate and she declined to give me that information. She states that there was no one above her and that she owed the hotel. I was able to find a corporate phone number on my own and file a complaint w/corporate anyways. After doing some research on my own, I come to find out that the General Manager that took our complaint in the beginning is the same person that I was speaking w/today. She is the one that came to the room and assessed all of the issues and she is the one that supposedly cancelled my reservation but come to find out non of that was done. After she told me that she would not be refunding me my money back, I became a little upset, but I never yelled at her. She said that she did not have to take this " [redacted] from me and she hung up on me. She did not want to listen to anything else I have to say. I feel that was extremely unprofessional on her part being the General Manager and representing a company as big as The Howard Johnson. I want to file a formal complaint against the General Manager, [redacted]l, of The Howard Johnson. I have since filed a complaint w/corporate for Howard Johnson. I would like them to refund me the $400.76 they took out of my account. I would like to know why 2 months later, they decided to debit my account. I want know why my reservation nor my card information was never taken out of their systems and I want to know why they were still able to keep all of my information in their systems when it should of been taken out in February.Desired Settlement: I would like the Howard Johnson to refund me the money they took out of my account. The approximate amount is $400.76. I would like to file a formal complaint against the General Manager, [redacted], of The Howard Johnson. She is very unprofessional and does not represent the company well at all. She cusses at her customers and hangs up on them. Very unprofessional for being a General Manager for a big corporate company like the Howard Johnson.

Review: Got a room at the Howard Johnson after traveling all day from Washington. My sister in law & I were very Hungry so we dropped our dog off in our room and headed to get something to eat, before heading out we turned on the A/C. Upon returning to our room right after dinner we thought it had smelled of human urine as if somebody had urinated in the air conditioner. We then washed our faces to start settling for bed. My sister in law then noticed there was stains all over her bedding and then crawling in there was something that had looked like dried crusty blood or food not quite sure what it was but obvious the bedding had not been washed. I then called the front desk telling them of the situation and that I wanted a refund to go to another hotel. The lady at the front desk said there are no refunds and she will put us in another room. I then went to the front desk to ask to speak to the manager and the lady handed me the card to the new room and said there is no manager available. A younger girl named [redacted] who was the original person that first checked us in then came to the front desk and asked us what was wrong and then told us that the lady we have been dealing with is the Manager and her name is [redacted]. We then went and checked out he new room they had given us and still was not impressed there was a open condom wrapper underneath the bed showing us once again they do not clean there rooms! We then went back to the front desk demanding our money back and [redacted] acting like she is not the manager said once again there are no refunds and will go check out another room for us personally. She then came back and gave us a key for another room which wasn't any better there was somebody's hair still on the sheets and In the blankets and the room had smelled as if it had been smoked in. The lady [redacted] who was the manager but acting like she wasn't was very rude and had very poor customer service never once apologizing for the filth in the rooms we were given.Desired Settlement: I would like a full refund! I have never been to a Howard Johnson and I can tell you I am completely dissatisfied with this company and the staff that they employ.

Review: Saw the hotel that my son was forced to stay in - (or be required to pay for a night); food on floor(pizza) and in back of headboard upon entry, outlet covers dangling from wall, bedding was dirty, stains on furniture, dust and dirt on furniture, obviously a smoked in room (though advertised as nonsmoking); pool was dirty and unclean everywhere. Desk clerk would not contact manager or did not know how to contact manager. Cost of rooms 112 for two nights and two rooms. Both rooms were equally bad. If they weren't desperate for a place to stay and had a lot of money they would not have stayed. Should have videoed and displayed the filth. Cannot believe that motel could even operate under such conditions. No wonder my son was sick for two days afterwards. (July 19-20, 2013)Desired Settlement: A refund of 448 for two nights and two rooms; would NEVER stay there again. Have city inspection or whomever inspects those places check on them!

Review: We checked into our hotel Saturday night. The room reeked of mold mildew like it had been flooded. The ceiling showed like it had leaked into the room. But nothing had been done about it. We might have let that slide if my husband had not seen that in the bathroom there was urine all over the left side of the toilet that was ever cleaned up as well.. GROSS!! We would have also checked out but there were not other rooms available in Billings Sat night. The staff was also very rude, I do not think they would have cared if people book the Howard Johnson or not..Desired Settlement: We did talk to them about getting a refund for the entire stay but as I said before they were VERY RUDE AND WOULD NOT EVEN TALK ABOUT IT LET ALONE LISTEN TO US!!

Review: My husband rented a room and was overcharged. We have rented rooms from this establishment several times and have never been charged more than 80.00 a night. All of the web sites are advertising at the most 99.00 for tonight. My husband was charged more than 130.00 per night for 2 nights. My husband has brain cancer and doesn't understand certain things and being we have stayed here prior I felt I could trust they wouldn't price gouge us and they did. When calling to request a refund for the room that hasn't been touched the general manager said no and hung up on me. This is bad business and awful customer service. I was also informed that this establishment has an issue with bed bugs and I don't feel comfortable staying there with my family.Desired Settlement: I would like a refund of all my money. This is fair.

Review: I had went on [redacted] to purchase a hotel room for 2 rooms, 1 night. I got Howard Johnson in Billings, MT for $29 a night per room. I called the motel the morning of the stay to confirm that we had 2 beds. The individual confirmed this. He did not tell me that they could not honor it. We had traveled the day, arrived there and were told by the clerk that it was a computer glitch (you could obviously tell that they were sold out and had sold out my hotel rooms) and they would not be able to honor that price. The clerk, Tammy was very rude and had horrible customer service skills, which I told her. I did not yell or swear and yet she threatened to call the cops on me twice if I did not leave. I even asked her to call [redacted] while I was there as I was concerned if I was not able to get the amount refunded from them. I contacted customer service at [redacted] who handled our situation in a satisfactory manner. I tried to lodge a complaint at the main headquarters, which they did nothing except have a manager call, leave a message and apologize. I tried to call the same manager back, and left a message for her. She never returned my call.Desired Settlement: Live, not on my voice mail.

Review: I reserved a room for 2 days expecting this to be clean and satisfactory. My room had no hot water and when I told the manager she shrugged and asked if I filed a complaint, I said I am doing it now. The refrigerator freezer was frozen over, the furnace was broken, there was garbage under the tv stand and the cable cord kept falling out of the back of the tv. The manager was rude and did nothing except ask me if I would like to change rooms. I said no that I was checking out. This hotel refused let me cancel my reservation because of the 24hr cancelation policy. I now had to pay for a second night that I did not stay. No comp, no discount. I just want my money back for the night I canceled. I took pictures of the fridge and furnace register, they didn't care. This hotel manager was rude and refused to help.Desired Settlement: I want a refund of $79.00 for the second night I did not stay.
