Howard Johnson Inn Mesa Reviews (3)

I spoke with the guest I told him this aint no 5 star hotel its just your average hotel now he has the right to leave not obligated to stay here if he doesn't want to but we don't refund third party website now if he payed for the room and is not happy he should of gave the room to one of his family...

members or friends because he payed for the room since he decided not to stay in the room that his choice now for the internet it was working properly but where getting it fix in signal strength my internet company cox is fixing it but there is internet. The sheets where clean if there was a stain I apologize but I know my housekeeping clean the sheets so I apologize if there was a stain but I know it wasn't dirty we don't put dirty sheets.

On Feb. 7, 2016 I arrived in Mesa, AZ. I made reservations at the Howard Johnson's on E. Main St. due to the fact myself and late husband had stayed at this location when it was Best Western.

The room hadn't been cleaned in some time. There wasn't any light bulbs in the room except for the one for the vanity by the bathroom. I paid for a 6 might stay before I realized that I had checked into Hotel Hell.

This property had weekly's now which it didn't before. Some if not all of the residents were druggies and drunks. This was Super Bowl weekend but that doesn't make it OK to blow crack smoke in another person's face. Accost other residents and threaten them.

I went to the office and told them what was going on and I wasn't going to stay in such a mess. I didn't travel 15 hours from home to stay in something like that. They did give me anther room which was 3 doors down from where I was at. As we were checking to see if this room had any light bulbs, the couple next door was playing let's toss the wife up against the wall. She was crying and professing her love for the abuser. I wasn't going to try and sleep through a night of that mess either.

Back to to the office I go and tell them to give me a credit I'm out of here. At that time I was told I had to wait until the next morning and the manager would credit my card. I left the property and called the home office of Howard Johnson's. I talked to a very nice woman who couldn't believe what I was telling her,. She gave me a case # and apologized several times. I called the hotel the next morning about the credit. I found out after I returned home I was lied to. They weren't going to credit me because I had the room keys for over 15 mins. I admitted to that but I didn't see why I'd have to pay for 6 nights at a place that wasn't stayable in my mind. I did say I'd pay for 1 night but felt that was all I should be required to pay. After several calls back and forth, no one at Howard Johnson's would help me.

I contacted my credit card with all the details. They on the other hand take their customers well being into account. They dealt with Howard Johnson's for 45 days only to hear the same stuff I did. They have denied the charge to my card, so Howard Johnson's and their druggie workers and guests lost out on my money. I guess they're not use to any one being sober enough to know what is right and wrong.

I wouldn't suggest this hotel to anyone to stay at in Mesa, AZ. There are plenty of other hotels that are a little more expensive but safe to stay at and your car won't get vandalize. Keep looking and you'll find safer places within a few blocks of that drug infested place. Basically a hotel that the rooms open out to the outside in East Mesa, could be the same situation. One that the rooms open to a hallway and/or lobby are safer, not saying there aren't drugs there but it's not shoved in your face.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  However, my bank stepped into the matter and have temporarily refunded me my money pending any further appeals by the hotel. I am okay with this for now.
