Howard Television Repair Service Reviews (1)

Review: On 6/**/13, two people ([redacted] plus an assistant) arrived to fix a non-cooling air conditioner. They brought just a couple of screwdrivers -- no other diagnostic equipment. After removing the A/C unit from its sleeve, they told me it had to be brought to their shop for repair. When I asked for an ESTIMATE they wouldn't give me one. They said they would call me later to tell me how much. Since they were a CASH-ONLY operation, I told them I needed to know how much money to take out. I said that they must have done this type of repair before, but they still hedged on an amount. [redacted] called me later to tell me the compressor had to be replaced and quoted me "about $370." When I said that was way too much and I could buy a new unit for around that much, [redacted] said, "let me see what I can do." A few minutes later he called me back and somehow managed to lower the price to $265, which seemed suspicious. They returned to replace the unit and did a shoddy job of it: they slightly cracked the frame, left out a screw, and I had to point out to the assistant that the ground wire had to be reconnected (he had just left it hanging). I paid them the cash ($265 in addition to the $65 "service call fee" that I paid upon their initial visit), but they FAILED to provide an invoice for the repair and/or parts. The only piece of paper they gave me was a Xeroxed copy of the initial service call. On 7/*/13, the A/C unit failed again -- same problem, not cooling. On 7/*/13 I attempted to call [redacted] at the original number: ###-###-####. This number was NO LONGER IN SERVICE. So I called his cell number (which apparently is now the contact number of record, as listed on the Revdex.com site). As I was very unhappy with the initial experience, and certainly angry that the "repair" was a failure, I left a stern message expecting an immediate call back. On 7/**/13 [redacted] did call me back. He started the conversation complaining about the "tone" of my message. I said that my "tone" was not the issue. The issue was that his work was substandard and I expected him to return immediately, and this time bring all his tools plus a replacement compressor and anything else he needs to fix the A/C on the spot, as I could not afford to take off another day from work. His answer was, "Why do you have to take off from work, I saw other people in your house." (He was referring to my child's babysitter who was there when he came the first time.) When I told him it's not his business who is in my house and when and I just want the job done immediately, he got ornery and rude. I told him that was no way to conduct a business and threatened to let PC Richards know (they initially referred him) and that if I don't get satisfaction I will contact the Revdex.com. He then started to tell me off and called me "stupid," at which point I hung up.Desired Settlement: I want a full refund, as his repair failed, his services are questionable, and his business practices are completely unprofessional: $330.00.
