Dear [redacted] ,This letter is in response to Claim # [redacted] for [redacted] ***As always we are very appreciative of what you do at the Revdex.com and are always interested in settling any dispute where our valued customers feel as though they were not dealt with properly [redacted] arrived with flashing check engine light complaining that he was told by another garage that he needed spark plug wires to complete a tune up he had done with them but refused it stating the cost was expensive, that he would complete the replacement of the spark plug wires himself, but believed there was another condition they did not identify. We cautioned [redacted] that a flashing check engine light was a stop notice and could easily cause damage to multiple components of his emissions system, including Osensors and catalytic convertersUpon completing our diagnostic test we found multiple random misfires in bank After continued testing we identified oxygen sensor bank sensor was giving a reading, suggesting the Osensor was Indicating a rich condition while post Osensor was showing extremely lean on bank 1, Fuel trim showed a lean condition as a result of an inaccurate reading from Osensor bank sensor We verified this test by manually trying to cause the Osensor in question to go lean by removing a vacuum line, the Osensor continued to show a rich conditionThe result was to replace the Osensor bank sensor This remedied the condition and the misfires were absent upon completion of the road testCustomer returned to pick up his vehicle in the rain, complaining it was misfiringUpon checking the vehicle we arrived at the conclusion that the moisture of the heavy rain was causing all cylinders to show a random misfire, which indicated again faulty spark plug wiresWe again offered to give an estimate to replace the wires and [redacted] refused, saying he would replace his own wiresHe returned several days later stating he had a new code [redacted] and that the Catalytic converter I replaced almost a year ago was defective, while completely ignoring all of the information we had offered about the dangers of the random misfires possibly causing the O2's and catalytic converter to fail, Faulty spark plug wires will cause raw fuel to be dumped into the exhaust, where it will heat up to dangerously high temperatures, and foul out Osensors, and ruin Catalytic converters, which act as filters for the exhaust system, [redacted] was told to bring his vehicle to us in order for us to ascertain if the Catalytic Converter was indeed defectiveIf it was defective, we would be glad to replace the part for him at no chargeWhen [redacted] arrived, he demanded that we agree to replace the Catalytic Converter at no charge before we had even looked at the vehicle to diagnose the problemWe explained that this was impossible, as the parts manufacturer to whom we would return the supposedly defective part would require us to diagnose the problem and prove that it was defectiveHe left without any service performed, visibly upsetKnowing [redacted] was upset, Howard called him and explained to him that we would replace the catalytic converter for him, at no charge, so long as the catalytic converter was found to be defectiveIf we examined the converter and found that the case was melted, it would indicate that burnt fuel had superheated and ruined it, thereby voiding the warranty [redacted] agreed to bring it back to us, The following day, when he returned to us, [redacted] again demanded that we replace the converter with no questions asked, and was unreasonable when Howard attempted to again explain the conditions upon which his warranty was based [redacted] left again upset, stating that unless we replaced his converter at no charge without inspecting it, he would not return to us for service. We believe that [redacted] indeed understands that his spark plug wires have caused misfires which in turn have ruined his catalytic converterHis Insistence upon us replacing the converter without inspecting it for defects Is suspectWe are more than happy to inspect the converter and will replace it under warranty if it is indeed defectiveBest Regards,Howard HPresident / Owner
