Howard University Student Accounts Reviews (5)

Howard sucks, their academics are poor, their administration is crap. They are terrible to deal with, as they do not respond to mail, e-mail or phone calls. They want students to pay even though they withdrew on time from the college. Its like students being held hostage forever, due to them not releasing their transcript so they can further their Education. I believe they are angry when student ditch their college for a better one. They retaliate by holding their Transcript hostage so that the student is unable to further their education without paying a hefty price. In my opinion the school should be shut down due to incompetent managers/administrators

Review: In the fall of 2012, I entered Howard University as a freshman student. I spent 2 semester at Howard and paid full tuition with parent plus, subsidized and unsubsidize loans. My account was paid in full at the end of the 2nd semester. In the fall of 2013, I submitted total withdrawal from Howard to the Dean of the school, because at this stage I could no longer afford Howard. My mother who is the only person in my family working was sick with a chronic illness, and Howard was not willing to help, even though I had a good GPA. My school E-mail was then blocked, so I could no longer use it. l transferred to another college in the fall of 2013. In December 2013, I went into my student account at Howard and noticed that I had a balance. I called and leave messages but no one ever bother to return the call. My mother and I sent several e-mails but the balance of $8,807.38 remains on the account, My account was paid in full prior to my departure from the UniversityDesired Settlement: I want Howard to remove the $8,807.38 from my account because I submitted total withdrawal from the University and did not attend Howard for the 2013-2014 school year

Review: My name is [redacted], and I am filing a complaint against the Financial Aide Dept of Howard University. Upon my award letter of acceptance of becoming a student in the College of Arts & Science Department at Howard University/ Major/ Fashion Designer. All went well, thus far, upon (Our) My (Mom, [redacted]) and I arrival of after touring the Campus we went to the Financial Aide Dept. We were told I was validated and needed not to worry about anything after signing the Finance papers for my funds to be released for my material that was need for the classes for my fall schedule. Well, for a while everything was loo[redacted] good and after two weeks the Drama started about my funds being held up pertaining to the HUSA Grant and not having the required material that is a must in order to get a grade. The Finance Dept. called my Mom and left a **g. the Rep.'s name was [redacted] or [redacted], instead of contacting me to inform me of what was going on. The only reason that was cleared up was because my Mom kept the Date of the call and the name of the person that she spoke with. Not only was I affected by the unprofessional-ism but, also my health was at risk during my stay at the [redacted] dormitory. I had mold and mildew all over my walls, clothes and my bedding of which I had to rid of and after a month and a half of emergency visits and so much medication, I thought I was going to die. I have records, and pictures to prove all of this. (See Attached) They finally moved me into another dorm without accommodations. Whereas, I lost almost most of my belongings and was never compensated for my loss. To later find out that they were giving out the funds to a person whose name was not on the Grants and felt like we would not catch it. Again, I was told by the Representative in the FAA office with my Mother present. That I needed not to worry and I still feel like they only did it because my Mom told them she would contact the Revdex.com again if she had to w/o any hesitation. Well, now that I have left they are trying to say that I owe them for the Spring Semester for classes and housing, when I did not attend classes for that term because of all the mix up with the funds before. So, I went to talk with the Sr. Advisor. After talking with Dr. [redacted], the Sr. Advisor to the President for Academic Issues, I was told it was probably best for me to sit out the Spring term and that he would take care of the necessary papers about me not being charged for my classes because I did not sit in any of them so, there was no reason for being charged and not to worry since my Grant took care of my Housing for the Spring term. And for the summer term I worked for Howard to pay for my housing at the Towers. Since my departure I and Mom have both have attempted on a weekly basics to contact Dr. [redacted], for my Mom it was like everyday she was off in September. And some of the dates were 09/19/13 twice on that day, she spoke with [redacted]/Secretary student assistant at 09:30 and 11:30am for him and was told that he would return her call before lunch and never did like he said and also twice on 09/24/13 where she spoke with [redacted], where never received at all back. We have tried continuously to reach him since he was the person that had advised me in doing so. I guess he felt like I was going to let it slide and trust him and not try to further my education. That it's okay to hold on to my transcripts. Please help me to resolve this issue in letting them know we mean business as it should have always been done in the first place. That is one of the reasons that the registration is below average for this year at Howard because of the un-professionalism there. They are trying to just take the students money and think that it is okay. Please help me in this matter. Thank you so much.Desired Settlement: Yes, for the suffering of my grades and mixing up grants and releasing it to someone other then who's name was on the actual funds to release my transcripts and get this information straight. Not affecting me in a negative way in anyway pertaining to my credit as quickly as possible. Thanks so much.

Hello [redacted],

Review: I attended Howard University in the Spring of 2013. When I enrolled for the Fall 2013 Section I was told that after enrolling in the Summer there were changes done to my financial aid. I was not told this until I had been given the run around up until it was too late to withdraw without owing the large amount of money. I was not told until late that a grant the school usually received had not been given. This is a grant I received in the spring. My problem is why was I not told this within a reasonable amount of time so that I could have withdrawn earlier. Now I have a balance of 39158.00 to pay and I can not get my transcript to attend another college. I blame the University since I was told in the summer all my grants and payments were done and I would also receive a refund of 100.00. Now after the Withdrawal deadline, I was told that I did not have enough to cover my classes and could not get an emergency loan. I was sent from office to office. Everyone was saying something different. Last week, I spoke to the interim president with my mother trying to make arrangements to return or get a transcript to finish college. I was told by the president that that he would speak to a person in accounts and that I could pay whatever was comfortable for me. My mom and I explained our budget to him, He said and I quote, don't worry I am sure [redacted] can arrange something that will be comfortable for you, The next day I made arrangements with someone from [redacted]'s office and he promised to fax the arrangement papers, They did not come. However I was called later and told the payments would be three times what we agreed upon. I told him we could not afford that . Then on top of that he called back and said the president changed the amount again to twice as high and also placed a deadline on when it should all be paid. Well once again I am up against people who give you the run around, do not hold themselves accountable for their word. I am disputing this amount and would like to have the amount waived and receive my transcript.Desired Settlement: I would like to have the 39158.00 waived and receive my transcript

Review: In the Fall of 2011 I was registered as a freshman at Howard University, however I was unable to attend due to the lack of financial assistance. With that being said as a freshman I was not aware I had to withdraw from the school, and so I have never attended the university. I have documents to prove that I have been attending [redacted] in New York [redacted] as of Fall 2011. I have been trying to do everything in my power to take care of this situation, and many times I have contacted [redacted] in order to withdraw and defer my account balance. In February of this year I was able to finally resolve my issue with the assistance of [redacted]. I have sent her the legal documents proving that I have never attended Howard University, and therefore should not be billed. I understand that this is a common issue that many students experience and can be simply taken care of. On April 17th and April 18th 2013 I received a letter from [redacted]. stating that I still owe Howard University $12,030. I find this difficult to even believe especially because I have filed a retroactive withdrawal; and overall have never attended Howard University as a student.Desired Settlement: I would like for Howard University to refrain from billing me $12,030. I have not attended the university, and it is unfair and unethical that I pay any ammount of money to them.
