This company is a scam.
Although they do not require you to pay anything, this is not a legit company to deal with. You get assigned a shop, take the time to do the shop & the report, then they come up with an excuse for a reason to not pay you. Basically they get their report for free. This has happened to me twice now with this company. I have been a mystery shopper for 19 years now and I have never had this happen to me before.

Desired Outcome

I am requesting that this company pay me for the 2 mystery shops that I have done for them and they have not paid/reimbursed for.

This complaint was filed against the incorrect office, but we can speak on behalf of our corporate office. *** is referring to two oil change shops that she completed and were excluded (cancelled, non payment) on our end due to the instructions of the shop not being followed. The instructions of the shop specifically said that she needed to get an oil change or a certain type of oil change and she did not complete the requirement of the shops, resulting in exclusion for not following the instructions. I have included the shop instructions for reference below.

ID: *** - Shopper was excluded (non payment) due to not purchasing the required oil change that was listed in the instructions.

Shop Requirement Instructions:
1. Vehicles MUST need an oil change
2. Shoppers MUST purchase a Conventional Oil Change and get a Tire Quote!
3. Shoppers MUST be available via email for questions from the editors
4. Shoppers MUST respond to All requests for missing info w/in given time
5. Shoppers MUST confirm address of shop prior to completing the form
6. Shoppers MUST upload copies of invoices and enter the number into the form
7. Shoppers MUST ask for a tire quote. Does not have to be for the shopper's personal car, can be for a friend.
DO NOT:
1. Lead the Customer Service Advisors and Technicians during your shop
2. Decline to have any part of the service completed
3. Use Diesel Fueled Vehicle (Unacceptable)
4. USE Motorcycle (Unacceptable)
5. BRING infants, children or small pets with you
6. LEAVE during the oil change. If you do the shop will not be accepted.
Failure to comply with these instructions may result in nonpayment for the shop. All shoppers should read these guidelines so they are completely clear on the requirements of this shop. If any information is not provided, but was asked for in the form or guidelines the shopper will be held accountable for such information. Failure to provide HS Brands with the appropriate information will result in nonpayment for the shop.

Shop: *** - Shopper was excluded (non-payment) due to not purchasing the correct oil change that was listed in the instructions. She purchased a basic oil change and she was supposed to purchase a *** Oil Change.

Shop Requirement Instructions:
This mystery shop is for a *** Service Oil Change, including up to 5 quarts of conventional oil. If your vehicle requires more than 5 quarts and/ or synthetic oil, you may still perform the shop but you will only be reimbursed up to the cost *** Service Oil Change. You may be offered additional services during your shop. It is to your discretion as to whether to accept the additional services but you will not be reimbursed above the cost of the *** Service Oil Change.

Your vehicle must be in need of an oil change.
Your vehicle must be model year 2001 or newer.
Rental cars are not allowed for this shop.
Motorcycles are not approved for this shop.
Do not bring infants or small children for this shop.
You must purchase a *** Service Oil Change. Some locations offer a *** Oil Change Plus (***) option as a cheaper alternative; do not accept this option.
o FAILURE TO RECEIVE A *** SERVICE OIL CHANGE WILL RESULT IN YOUR SHOP BEING EXCLUDED AND YOU WILL NOT BE REIMBURSED
You must use the $5 off coupon, which can be downloaded from the shop form.
You must remain on the premises for the duration of your shop.
Confirm the address of your assigned shop prior to performing the shop.

That is THEIR excuse for not paying. I did both shops as requested/required. I have been doing this for over 20 years, I know what I am doing. This company makes up excuses to not pay, AFTER they get their report and all required information / pictures.

I did not receive the full reimbursement for a mystery shop that I did for them because one of their associates filled out my reimbursement claim.
I filled out the form for my report and filled in all the areas for the reimbursement. I was later told that I needed to fill out a separate form for the reimbursement even though the form that I initially filled out requested all of that information. I asked the person, Maria, if I could have access to my old report so I could use that information to fill out the form. She said I could not and she would fill out the form. She filled out the form, but then with the reimbursement I was missing $45. I was told that receipts were incorrect and that was all I would be getting. I did not write the tip amounts on the receipts, which I could have easily remedied and resubmitted had I been allowed to do it. I also did not get a formal receipt when I paid for the cover charge at a strip club, but I'm supposed to be undercover if you will, so to ask for a receipt would definitely be suspicious. I asked to speak to someone in accounting over 3 times and all I would get was a standard email saying that nothing could be done and the receipts were not filed properly. I am asking for the $45 that I am owed for the $20 cover charge and $25 for the tips.
If they're going to take away that much from me, they should at least allow me to talk to someone about this situation which has not happened. Furthermore, it is from the receipts being filed by someone else that has further handcuffed me.

Full reimbursement was not provided as the shopper did not follow the process or requirements as stated in the guidelines (provided below). The shopper did not list the tips on the receipt (as required and stated in guidelines). Shopper did not fill out the information on the billing and expense link (as required and stated in guidelines). Shopper attempted to get back into the report to access the billing and expense link (As clearly stated in the guidelines cannot be done). When the shopper reached out, Maria offered to add the expenses for him as she has administrative access to do so, however the receipts he submitted did not show the cash tips and he did not provide a receipt for the $20 cover charge.

As a gesture of good faith, I have approved paying the shopper the $45.00 he's filed his complaint about so we're able to close this incident without further delay.

For your reference here is the Billing and Expenses section of the guidelines (Page 4 of 6):

"All tip amounts must be noted ON THE RECEIPT. If you leave a cash tip, it MUST be written on the receipt in order to receive reimbursement up to 18% unless specified in the report guidelines.
The Billing and Expenses form is available as a link found in the expense section of the main report. Do not click the billing and expenses link until you are ready to submit your expenses. Please be advised that you must complete the entire report at one-time. You will not be able to re-access the billing & expense report after you complete it. Failure to complete the billing & expense report within 72 hours of completing your shop will result in a loss of any shop bonus, as well a 10% per day reduction of your shopper's pay. We will not reimburse expenses without receipts. All receipts must be uploaded in PDF format by the shopper."
