We've lived here for 3 years. In those three years I have watched a rapid descent from a reputable place to live (jadwin stevens apartments) to a trashy palce I can't wait to get out of. I filed a complaint within months of moving in that there was mold in the bathroom. They told me it was just mildew and pretty much blamed us not using the fan or showering with the door open, which was not the case. A maintenance man came, recaulked the tub, and left. Recently, in March of 2013, I reissued the complaint beacuse I had tried to kill the MOLD with bleach, tilex, comet, pretty much anything I could think of and it would never completely go away or stay dead. I even told them where I believe it's coming from, the broken gutter outside my apartment that has not been repaired since it happened in the winter of 2010. THe result of the renewed complaint was a guy came in real quick, recaulked the bathroom, promised to be back again in the next week to do a further inspection for mold, and never showed up. Recently (3/2013) they began doing these "Pre-hud inspections" where they come in to make sure everything is up to code. While I completely understand that, I don't understand why the top priority on their list is housekeeping. I didn't know they had the right to inspect and judge whether or not my housekeeping was up to par. This first one was supposed to be to make sure everybody would pass the real HUD inspection coming April 16th 2013. However last friday 4/12/13, we got virtually an identical letter stating we were going through another round of "Pre-HUD inspections" from the 4/16/13-4/18/13. I'm not sure how they think this isn't harassment. They send the letters out late friday night so you can't say or do anything about it over the weekend, and refuse to make appointments for you to be there when they want to do the inspection. ALl they' will say is it will be one of those three days, somewhere between 9-5. I work shift work! I have a dog that the maintenance man is scared of, me requesting an appointment is strictly for his own good. Why, when I bring this up, would they literally shrug and say they aren't making appointments, it's not necessary for us to be present when they come in? I'm not comfortable with them coming into my apartment when I or my husband is not available and do not appreciate their lack of respect, or the fact that this is the second "pre-hud inspection" in 4 weeks. I don't feel this is right, that they may come and go as they please so long as they mention something about maintenance in their notice. I strongly advise anyone looking to move to this apartment to either look elsewhere, or be ready to have your home show-ready whenever they please. don't forget to do your dishes!
