Mr*** brought his Ford Fto us for repairs after work was performed by othersHe gave us an invoice from another shop that recommended replacing the engine, which he declinedHis complaint was that the engine would shut off after the truck warmed up and would not restart until it
cooled off
08/27/$
Mr*** authorized us to diagnose the problemHooked up diagnostic computer and checked for problemsFound the following; PICP (injection control pressure) too low, PCKP (crankshaft position sensor) output open, passed injector click test, passed relative compression test, ICP psi dropping off when engine warms upWe suggested removing the valve covers for further diagnostics to try to find oil pressure problem
09/10/$
Mr*** authorized further diagnostic workWe removed the valve covers to inspect for leaks in the high pressure oil systemWe did hear a leak coming from under the oil coolerWe suggested removing the turbocharger and high pressure oil cover
09/11/$
Mr*** authorized us to further diagnose the problem by removing the turbocharger and high pressure oil coverThe leak was coming from the high pressure oil pump that was previously replaced elsewhereWe also found damaged wiring connectors to the fuel injection control module, intake air temperature sensor, engine cooling fan, engine coolant temperature sensor, and damaged sections of engine wiring harnessThe serpentine belt, tensioner, and idler pulleys are very wornWe suggested removing the injectors for testing
09/24/$
Mr*** authorized us to change the high pressure oil pump, ICP sensor, and perform repairs to the electrical connections and harnessAuthorization was granted for the belt, pulleys, and tensionerAuthorization was also granted for the injector removal and testingWhile testing the injectors we found that two of the eight injectors were not the correct part number for the vehicle and the other six passed testingMr*** authorized replacing the two injectors and reusing the other six after cleaning and installing new O-rings and gasketsAfter the injectors were reinstalled and the wiring connectors and harness problems were repaired, the truck started and ranThe batteries were not the correct size for the vehicle and did not work properlyOne battery internally shorted causing it to explode and did damage to the fuel injection control module
09/25/$
Mr*** authorized replacing the batteries and the fuel injection control moduleAfter replacing the batteries the vehicle was taken on a test drive and did not stall when up to operating temperature and will restart warmWe did notice that there was an unusual popping noise that could be heard through the air intake system and a loss of power when the noise happensTo find the cause of that noise we would have to remove the rocker arms and push rodsWe also suggested performing a compression test

Mr*** authorized us to perform the compression test and inspect the rocker arms and push rodsThe rocker arms and push rods looked normalWe did find two cylinders on the driver’s side low on compressionThe passenger side compression was not testedEngine disassembly is required to find compression problem
We spoke with Mr*** and he wanted to come and watch the compression test himselfWe repeated the procedure while he was present
Mr*** declined further repairs and work on truck was stopped
All charges for parts and labor authorized are due along with storage fees that are accumulating because Mr*** has not picked up vehicle and paid for work performed
During this whole process our service manager Jake was in contact with MrCanotral and his business partnerThere were times that they came to the shop and Jake personally went over the invoice and the accumulating chargesWe covered the cost of the high pressure oil pump because it was purchased from us and installed at another shopThe manufacture warranty on that pump does not cover the labor for replacementWe even discounted some of our services like the charge for removing and installing the injectorsWe have been very fair with Mr*** though this whole processThe original complaint of not starting hot is fixedUnfortunately there are further problems with the engine*** *** is not responsible for these problems and are due the charges that were properly approved and authorized by Mr***If this bill is not paid for *** *** has the right to secure a mechanic’s lien against the truck and obtain a title for the vehicle

I empathize with Mr***’s feelings, but the facts of the matter are that he had brought his truck to us after work was performed (improperly I might add) at another shop and he did not want to take the advice of that shopHis complaint to us was that it would not restart after the engine was up to temperatureWe agreed with Mr*** that that specific complaint would not be consistent with needing a motor changeFor us to diagnose his complaint we had to perform tests in stepsEach step of the way we consulted Mr*** before proceeding and received his authorization to continueEach step of the way we explained our findings and the need to go furtherWe found things that were installed improperly and many wiring problems that were from work performed prior to bringing the truck to *** ***In order for us to find the cause of his complaint we had to fix the problems we came across firstMr*** visited our shop on multiple occasions and agreed each step of the way to authorize further workIn the end we did fix the complaint of the hard starting hot conditionUnfortunately there are further problems with the engine that need to be addressedThese problems did not present themselves to us until we had fixed the reason the truck was brought to usIn no way is *** *** responsible for any of the problems with Mr***’s vehicle*** *** is entitled to be paid for the work that was performed and authorized by Mr***

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
Below is my
response to the statements made by [redacted].
It is
difficult to me to defend my position since I am not a mechanic. I find hard to
believe that my truck needed all the work listed by [redacted] and is
still not in working conditions.
The purpose
of the diagnosis I brought to them performed by the other shop it was to aid in
finding the problem. As far as I can recall, it didn’t say I needed to change
the engine. The truck will turn on and run until warmed up. A broken engine wouldn’t
turn on at all.
My decision
for taking my vehicle to a place I thought specialized in diesel engines was
made based on the fact that I’m a consumer not a mechanic. Having said that, I
trusted what I thought it was the expert advice of mechanics that are certified
to work on vehicles like mine. I don’t understand why if they also thought it
was necessary to replace the engine they began suggesting and endless list of diagnosis,
testing, repairs, if they knew the truck was in such a bad shape, which by the
way have not resulted in my truck to work correctly.
Each time
they suggested to perform a new test or replace a part they will say “we have
found the problem, we need to do xyz
to correct the issue” ironically the testing and the replacement of part will
result in MORE PROBLEMS WITH THE TRUCK!
It is
difficult for me to dispute from a technical/mechanical point of view the
statement made by [redacted] since I am not a mechanic, as I stated
before I trusted their advice; however, I feel I have been taking advantage of
the situation. As far as I’m concerned my vehicle is still not working properly
and I don’t believe I should pay for repairs that have resulted in more
problems.
Regards,
[redacted]

I am an Active Duty Member in the US NAVY. I own 1995 DODGE 12VALVE CUMMINS. I had to transfer overseas for 7 years, so this truck was stored for 7 years. I transferred back to the States. The Huckstorf Team are amazing they got my truck road ready and they were fair with all the work they performed on the truck, Thank you John, Jake and Chris for your support and your great customer service. I made it Oklahoma with no issues and the truck performed beautifully. I highly recommend Huckstorf Diesel pump & injector service, Inc for all your diesel requirements. In my opinion they are the BEST, And would drive from anywhere in the states to get them to work on my truck again.

Review: I brought in my truck for repairs on August 28th. The truck will turned off when is overheated. The shop claims they have performed many repairs to include replacing the high pressure pump, 4 injectors, 2 batteries and the FICM Control Module; however, the truck doesn't work yet. Now they want me to pay $7,300 to release my truck even though IS NOT WORKING, or to surrender my title to the shop to settle the debt.Desired Settlement: I want them to release my vehicle. I DO NOT want to paying for parts and labor if the truck doesn't work.

Response:

Mr. [redacted] brought his 2003 Ford F350 to us for repairs after work was performed by others. He gave us an invoice from another shop that recommended replacing the engine, which he declined. His complaint was that the engine would shut off after the truck warmed up and would not restart until it cooled off.

08/27/2014 $153.89

Mr. [redacted] authorized us to diagnose the problem. Hooked up diagnostic computer and checked for problems. Found the following; P2290 ICP (injection control pressure) too low, P2617 CKP (crankshaft position sensor) output open, passed injector click test, passed relative compression test, ICP psi dropping off when engine warms up. We suggested removing the valve covers for further diagnostics to try to find oil pressure problem.

09/10/2014 $459.54

Mr. [redacted] authorized further diagnostic work. We removed the valve covers to inspect for leaks in the high pressure oil system. We did hear a leak coming from under the oil cooler. We suggested removing the turbocharger and high pressure oil cover.

09/11/2014 $1682.13

Mr. [redacted] authorized us to further diagnose the problem by removing the turbocharger and high pressure oil cover. The leak was coming from the high pressure oil pump that was previously replaced elsewhere. We also found damaged wiring connectors to the fuel injection control module, intake air temperature sensor, engine cooling fan, engine coolant temperature sensor, and damaged sections of engine wiring harness. The serpentine belt, tensioner, and idler pulleys are very worn. We suggested removing the injectors for testing.

09/24/2014 $4401.21

Mr. [redacted] authorized us to change the high pressure oil pump, ICP sensor, and perform repairs to the electrical connections and harness. Authorization was granted for the belt, pulleys, and tensioner. Authorization was also granted for the injector removal and testing. While testing the injectors we found that two of the eight injectors were not the correct part number for the vehicle and the other six passed testing. Mr. [redacted] authorized replacing the two injectors and reusing the other six after cleaning and installing new O-rings and gaskets. After the injectors were reinstalled and the wiring connectors and harness problems were repaired, the truck started and ran. The batteries were not the correct size for the vehicle and did not work properly. One battery internally shorted causing it to explode and did damage to the fuel injection control module.

09/25/2014 $5674.76

Mr. [redacted] authorized replacing the batteries and the fuel injection control module. After replacing the batteries the vehicle was taken on a test drive and did not stall when up to operating temperature and will restart warm. We did notice that there was an unusual popping noise that could be heard through the air intake system and a loss of power when the noise happens. To find the cause of that noise we would have to remove the rocker arms and push rods. We also suggested performing a compression test.

10/03/2014 $6562.18

Mr. [redacted] authorized us to perform the compression test and inspect the rocker arms and push rods. The rocker arms and push rods looked normal. We did find two cylinders on the driver’s side low on compression. The passenger side compression was not tested. Engine disassembly is required to find compression problem.

We spoke with Mr. [redacted] and he wanted to come and watch the compression test himself. We repeated the procedure while he was present.

Mr. [redacted] declined further repairs and work on truck was stopped.

All charges for parts and labor authorized are due along with storage fees that are accumulating because Mr. [redacted] has not picked up vehicle and paid for work performed.

During this whole process our service manager Jake was in contact with Mr. Canotral and his business partner. There were times that they came to the shop and Jake personally went over the invoice and the accumulating charges. We covered the cost of the high pressure oil pump because it was purchased from us and installed at another shop. The manufacture warranty on that pump does not cover the labor for replacement. We even discounted some of our services like the charge for removing and installing the injectors. We have been very fair with Mr. [redacted] though this whole process. The original complaint of not starting hot is fixed. Unfortunately there are further problems with the engine. [redacted] is not responsible for these problems and are due the charges that were properly approved and authorized by Mr. [redacted]. If this bill is not paid for [redacted] has the right to secure a mechanic’s lien against the truck and obtain a title for the vehicle.

Response:

I took a 1999 Dodge 3500 in for a Fuel Injection Pump replacement, I provided the pump which they installed. The truck ran, but when I got the truck back it had the following problems that WERE NOT there when I took it to them.
1. Heat air vents did not work.
2. No Four Wheel Drive.
3. Loud Ticking Noise. They blamed it on my used Pump.
Their reply:
1. I should check my vacume lines, (? they did the disconnection, NOT Me) I fixed it.
2. It was not working when I took it in?? they said. Still I have no Four Wheel Drive?
3. They said the ticking was caused by; Bad Fuel, Bad Oil, and replace fuel injectors; I had them replace only the injectors, I did the other work, I still have a ticking noise and out over $888.00.
4. I had replaced the pump with a new one for $1500.00 installed and I still have the ticking noise. NO HELP from this company, lead you on and no support.

Incredibly disappointed with this shop. Took my truck there to have it diagnosed and figure out why it was not wanting to start on cold mornings. I thought I was taking it to the experts. They quoted me $1100 to fix the issue. Battery looked to never be replaced in its life- ok fine I just bought the truck last February. Then they say the Cam needs fixing, and never really explained anything to me. Then the glow plug needs replacing, as what a computer indicated, and finally a "computer update". They call the next day to tell me that they were working on the glow plug and broke the harnessing and that I would have to cover the cost. I was floored! End price went from 1100- 1500. This is not my mistake, I thought they were the experts. I was never told this was a possibility and there could be more money involved due to this. Maybe if they told me this I could have made a better decision as to who worked on my vehicle. When I told them this they replied "Its not our problem that your truck has a design flaw"- [redacted]. That was completely unprofessional, I should have been told this was a possibility and the huge increase in price if this was to occur. I understand that not all cases this may happen but your customer needs to be better informed. I am disappointed in the lack of customer service and their ability to explain and talk to their customer. Also did I get any paper work after I left Huckstorf explaining what they had done? No, they gave me the glow plug in a stapled plastic bag, and a Credit Card machine receipt. So I'm not entirely sure what was all really done to it.

I picked the truck up on a Friday, the following Monday morning when I had to start my truck in the cold morning - it again didn't want to start. Over the weekend the truck was only started when it was above 40 degrees during the day- this was not when I was having issues, the issue was cold mornings. I am back to square one. Upon calling Huckstorf, they seemed annoyed that I was calling them for help, and again did not explain things well of what they could do to help. I will not be taking it back to them, as they failed to resolved the issue in the first place and their poor customer service was disappointing.

I would be ok with paying a higher price for a local shop to fix my vehicle if A) they actually helped resolve the vehicle problem and not tell me that my vehicle has a design flaw. and B) the customer service was impeccable- non of these were met. I feel I was taken advantage of because I am new to owning a diesel.
