Review: I had an in-person inspection by a company salesman regarding a severe leak in my roof due to chimney flashing which was failing due to age. The cause was diagnosed and a plan of repair was drawn up by [redacted] to address the leak. The leak had caused extensdamage to a wall which was shared between the garage and basement. Part of the repair was to remove and replace the flashing with new flashing and sealants. Repair of the water damaged wall was outside of the scope of work done by this company and so an additional contractor would also have to be employed. Upon completion of and agreement upon the contract, work for three separaive water te chimney related-repairs were made during October and were finished on October **,2013. Complete payment in the amount of $4,761.83 was made to the company at the time of completion. When the general contractor I contracted with to repair the drywall in the basement and garage area arrived later that week, the first thing he did was to take a hose up to the roof and run water in the area of the new flashing. Within minutes, water started to run down the wall in the garage, the same wall the contractor was preparing to repair. At this time my wife and I had to make the decision to have the brand new flashing, which Hudson Valley Chimney had put in just a few days prior, completely removed and replaced with correctly installed flashing materials so that the water damaged wall could also be repaired.Desired Settlement: My complaint seeks to be reimbursed for the entire cost of $650.00, which is what I paid for the flashing. There is no other explanation for such a failure of a promised repair except for incompetence on the part of the contracted company and it's workers and therefore I should be reimbursed that portion of money for which I did not receive what I paid for.

Review: I hired Hudson Valley Chimney Services to fix a water leakage problem I had from my chimney. When it rained, water leaked down the fireplace on to the surface of the bricks on one side and on to the floor on the other. A required inspection was completed by [redacted] on August **, 2013 which indicated the flashing was satisfactory and therefore a new chimney built from the flashing up would be needed to solve the water problem I was having. This mandatory inspection costs $135.16. When I questioned [redacted] if he was sure this was the solution he replied "Yes, I am absolutely sure and we stand behind our work". A new chimney was built from the flashing up and every time it has rained since this chimney was built it has leaked just as bad as the original one. Countless calls over this past year have been made to Hudson Valley Chimney to rectify this. Hudson Valley Chimney has admitted that the chimney is not the cause of the water leakage problem (now that a new one was built and wrapped in tarp) and it is in fact the flashing. The original chimney never needed to be rebuilt at this time and the flashing should have been redone instead. They are refusing to fix the problem. I contacted the [redacted] of the business, [redacted] for assistance and he said/yelled "We (Hudson Valley Chimney) are not plumbers and if you want your water problem fixed to call a plumber, CALL A PLUMBER, CALL A PLUMBER ....you are not going to get anywhere with this." Please help me get my money back.Desired Settlement: I would like a full refund of $7,188.36

The business has responded. Please read below:

On August **, 2013 my [redacted] was sent out to [redacted]’s residence to evaluate a water issue she was having inside near her chimney. When [redacted] was on the roof he inspected the flashing, masonry, roof and the internal flue as we do with most chimneys. His observation was the flashing appeared in good condition, the masonry had pieces of brick on the roof and a crack with air space in the side of the chimney. The flue tiles were cracked and the top of the chimney was tarred over. He was informed the flashing was done a couple of years previously by another contractor. We were hired to do the repairs specified on the contract. We returned to the chimney after she said the water was still coming in. We recaulked the flashing then and on another visit as well by another technician from Hudson Valley Chimney to get another set of eyes on the project. After all of these efforts by us we returned again and applied Chimney Saver Water Repellant to the entire exterior chimney to prove the chimney was not the problem at no expense. It is the flashing installed by her contractor. [redacted] asked for someone who does flashing and we gave her a name of [redacted] who is a [redacted]. He talked to her on the phone and suggested to her to wrap the chimney with a tarp down to the flashing but not cover it. We returned to the residence and put a new tarp on and taped it to the flashing to make the chimney water tight at no expense. The chimney still leaks.

All of the work performed on the residence were needed repairs. The chimney was in need of rebuilding, The flue tiles were repaired and a cap was installed. I have asked and suggested to [redacted] to contact the contractor who did the flashing and I have never received a response from her as to why she has not. I am sorry she is having these issues continuing but I stand behind my work, not others.
