Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.I find it interesting that Zola’s finds the complaint “completelybaseless and without merit” when every other consumer I have spoken to seems tothink that I am the one who has been wronged. How can a gift card that was purchased in mid-September be defunct bythe end of December?  Someone got a lotof free money then, either the current or former owner, we will never know.  Now they offer me 20% off a meal?  Let’s do the math.  The purchaser of the gift card lost $125 as thatmoney went directly into the pockets of either the former or current owner withouthaving to provide any services.  We lost$98.62 on a meal because we thought the gift card would pay for it (thewaitress did tell us they were honoring gift cards for the month of April).  Now, they expect me to give them roughlyanother $80.00 so that I can save $18 on a meal?  No thanks.
Regards,

RE: ID# [redacted]Dear Sir/Madam;The complaint # listed above is completely baseless and without merit. The customer wanted our Restaurant to honor a gift card from the defunct Restaurant from whom we bought the assets to start our operation. The old restaurant closed its doors on...

December 31 of 2014, and we opened in the same space on April 8th of 2015. It is clear in the newspaper articles and on our web sited that this is a new organization, with new management and ownership (We state clearly on our web site that we only purchased the assets.).Please note that as an all new organization our merchant services system can’t read the cards from the defunct restaurant.Since there was some confusion by the customer regarding ownership and the relation to the defunct organization, we did offer the customer a 20% discount on their next visit.A copy of our response to Ms. [redacted] is attached for your reference.Sincerely,

Review: I received a gift card to Zolas restaurant in State College, PA in mid-September of 2014. By the end of the year, they were closed and were going to re-open under new ownership the following year. They reopened in April 2015. (This article confirms their closing and re-opening dates: http://www.[redacted]). My husband and I went there for dinner on April 25th. At the end of the meal, I gave the waitress the gift card. She said they would be honoring them until the end of the month. She then came back with the gift card and said that since I didnt call in advance to ask about using the gift card, they would not honor it, but that I could send the previous owner, [redacted], an e-mail and he would reimburse me. I sent [redacted] two e-mails and got no response. I called Zolas and they gave me his phone number. We called him twice and he never got back to us. Although the new Zolas made it seem like they had nothing to do with the former owner, we found this article which states that [redacted] will be kept on board at the new Zolas in a management role for a year to help transition them into running the restaurant: http://www.[redacted] I find it unacceptable, and quite frankly, fraudulent, that a business would continue to sell gift cards mid-September when they knew they would be closing the end of the year and had no intention of honoring those gift cards for even a complete month after reopening, even though the former co-owner is still working with the new owners! My gift card (#[redacted]) was for $125. Since I have no intention of dining at Zolas again after the way we have been treated, I would just like to be reimbursed for the meal we ate there which totaled $98.62.Desired Settlement: I would like a refund in the amount of $98.62.
