MrD*** approached me to work on his GMC Topkick, (ton service truck,equipped with lube rack air compressor fueling station etcused to service his rental equipment)with a complaint,as noted, of intermittent dying and low coolant light on.I told him that there would be a diagnosis fee of
$and we would touch base and go from thereMrD*** dropped his vehicle prior to the opening of business, as noted.It was discovered that the water pump was leaking.It was also noted that there were no codes present, which may have indicated a reason for the complaint of dying.MrD*** was notified of this in PERSON when he stopped by the shop.He mentioned at that time that the unit would heat up under a hard pull and when asked, he saids that he could not hear the fan engage, indicating an issue with the fan clutch.At that time,it was suggested to MrD***, that since the hood and fenders and related items had to be removed to access and replace water pump and fan clutch,that there would be NO MORE labor incurred to replace the crankshaft and camshaft sensors, that MAY be the cause of his dying complaint, as well as to replace the belt,tensioner and idlers.MrD*** agreed and this was inPERSON and not by phoneWhen MrD*** came to pick up his truck,he informed me that he didn't have all of the money, but could give me $then and have the rest by the end of the following week.After much discussion, I reluctantly agreed.At no time was there mention or discussion of unauthorized work being performedThat being said, on Tuesday July 5th,as I was returning from lunch, I was confronted by a young man identifying himself as MrD***'s son.He immedediatly accused me of doing work on his father's truck that was not authorized and that I needed negotiate the price.I calmly explained that nothing was done to his father's truck that he did not know about and personally authorize and if there was an issue, it should have been discussed at the time the vehicle was picked up.His tone rachetted up with him finally calling me an "f...ing swindler" and leftOn Monday July 11th,I received MrD***'s check back in the mail marked NON-SUFFICIENT FUNDS, dated bay the bank July 6th.Upon receiving the check back, I contacted MrD*** by telephone,the conversation was civil and MrD*** assured me that I would have the money by the end of the week.On Friday July 15th, I contacted the Bad check division of the District Attorney's office about submitting MrD***'s chewck for collections, as he never made any attempt to cover the checkI was told that it had to be returned twice by the bank, prior to submitting to DA for collectionsI received MrD***'s check back yet again, this time marked Payment stopped, I then submitted to the DA's office.The DA returned the check, along with a letter stating that they would not pursue collection,citing an"unanswered complaint filed with the Better Bussines Bureau"In closing, I would like to mention that MrD*** stopped by the shop on a daily basis while his truck was here for repairs.He was informed in person of costs and ok'd them, insistingon "Only the best parts.Sincerely,M*** ***
