But basically I said that the client hired me to prepare a design.  My time, energy, expertise, knowledge were all expended to obtain all of the information required, including time spent with the zoning official to determine the applicable specifications needed if the client wanted to move forward with a pool. 
 
The design is intellectual property and I own it.  So, I do not need to share this with the client after all of the grief she gave me.

The design proposal specifically does not denote that the design is intellectual property.  It simply says that “Designer agrees to provide client with a scale drawing, detailing the above area.”.  [redacted] also told me in person that if I so chose, I could take the rendering to another landscape artist since I was paying $1000 for the rendering.  To me the exact words of “agrees to provide” actually means that I am buying the rendering and that it is not intellectual property.  I am not satisfied with her response and feel that she has gone back one her word.

Review: My husband and I were looking to redo the backyard completely and wanted Hufnagel to do it for us. We signed a contract for $1000 for Hufnagel to render the backyard to our satisfaction. It took a very long time for them to get back to us and when I received the initial rendering it was not what I had asked for. I felt that Valerie had put very little time into the project and only sent me one rendering when I had asked for more than one. When I emailed her again about it she didn't get back to me for weeks. I emailed a follow up and she claimed that she never received my email. I then suggested that I get a refund as I didn't think she had time for this project and didn't seem interested in doing it. She fought me on that as we had signed an agreement which technically she is right. I then went to look at the rendering which I paid $1000 for and it was gone. I own this rendering and I would like to get my money back since she made it unavailable to me.Desired Settlement: I would like to get a refund for half of my $1000.
