Complaint[redacted] was my Landlord this past academic year (2015-2016) while I attended [redacted] University. Throughout the year,[redacted] was an extremely absent landlord when we needed anything at all from him, but would make his presence very well known over email or by standing in our parking lot when he so desired. The basis of my complaint has to do with him vastly overcharging us for damages in our townhouse that we did not cause. Our house has been passed down from roommates to roommates over the past ten years before [redacted] bought the property. When he did become our landlord this past year (also the same time that us 3 roommates moved in), I contacted him to come do an initial inspection and do various other things that he said he was going to come do, but he never contacted us back for that inspection or never responded to my emails after that. When we filled out our lease for the year, I included in some of the comments all the things that were damaged when we moved in since he never came to do an initial inspection (thinking this would cover us so we wouldn't have to pay for all the things currently damaged). Over the course of the year,[redacted] was never there when we actually needed him; we only heard from him when it was convenient for him. Fast forward to the end of year, we get an email from [redacted] with a list of 20+ pictures showing the damages in the house (all minor things that just come from regular use) saying that we owe him $900+ over what he already has in our security deposit. I proceeded to call [redacted] on the phone to dispute these charges in a rationale manner, and he responded in the most immature and childish way I've ever had an adult talk to me on the phone. [redacted] then used his position as a lawyer to force us into paying him this extra money for repairs that we were not responsible for making (and that were covered under our lease). He is a vindictive, horrible person who should not be allowed to practice law in our judicial system.Desired Settlement[redacted] owes us all the money back from our security deposit back and the money he took beyond that, totaling $1550. Business Response I will gladly produce a lease agreement. Mr[redacted] roommate has already paid for the damage that Mr[redacted] contests. His libelous comments are misplaced. On behalf of HumpDay Properties LLC, I sent photos of the damage and a list of costs to repair to all 3 tenants. Unit had to be painted, carpet cleaned, 4 inch hole in carpet to be repaired, hvac filters replaced, several blinds broken, ceiling fan broken, junk left in cabinets, cobwebs throughout, walls/doors scuffed, countless holes in sheetrock, bookcase left, stove unsanitary, refrigerator unclean, keys not returned, window unlocked and open. People lie, photos do not! Future landlords beware [redacted]. He claims he tried to dispute the charges in a rationale manner. I told him his roommates mother had already agreed to pay for the damage and he hung up on me!! Final Business Response
