Hung-Rite Doors, Inc. Reviews (8)

Mr [redacted] called us on a friday and said his wife closed the garage door on a kids scooter. he wanted to know if this was covered under his warranty since we had installed his new door on 10/17/2013. I told him there is no warranty for  the opener since he reused his existing opener...

that is 12 years old. I got a tech to pick up a new section and go that same day and replace it. we went back the next day on saturday and gave him his check so we could end this situation, but now he want's us to replace the section again at new cost to him with glass in it. The door worked fine until they closed it on the scooter, it was his existing opener that did'nt reverse like he thought it should.I told him the manual from genie say's the opener should be checked once a month. at this time HUNG RITE DOOR has closed this issue, thank you STEVE with HUNG RITE DOOR.

In response to your email .. As I indicated we have already gone out to the customers home at no charge and reset the door back on track and replaced the top section with no windows as the customer requested after the damage was done , all at no charge to the customer.

As stated previously the damaged was caused by the wife closing the Garage door on a child scooter. I am attaching 2 pages of the  maintance manual for the opener which states that the contact reverse test should be done monthly to insure proper operation .

The customers door was installed by Hung Rite in October 17, 2013 and the customer declined to replace the 12 year old Genie that he currently had in there . This was not our opener at that time of install the opener passed  the reverse  test.

When the technician returned to replace the top section the down force setting on the opener was set at 4 which is not maxed out on the force setting . 4 is a average setting .

Due to everything stated above Hung Rite feels we have gone above and beyond to do everything we can to resolve this issue with the customer .

Mr [redacted] needs to realize and take responsibility for fact that the scooter was what caused the issue to begin with . At this time Hung Rite feels this issue has been resolved by us.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

Regards,

The existing opener didn't reverse due to Hung Rite Technicians not properly adjusting the sensitivity for the downward force of the door. This was verified by a licensed and bonded company that properly adjusted the sensitivity after Hung Rite failed to do so despite multiple trips to my home regarding the installation of the door. Hung Rite should replace the top section with the same section I had. If the sensitivity was adjusted correctly, this issue of my door  being damaged  would not exist. I will accept nothing short of Hung Rite furnishing the glass window top panel replacement.I will have it installed as I do  not trust Hung Rite to  do  it correctly.

I had 2 problems with my garage door. You sent out Hung-Rite Doors to correct the problems. The technician (DRAJ) determined that he needed a new logic board. That solved one problem. It created another because the technician also not fully reprogram the system and my outside pad is not working. The other problem was intermittent. The door would not close all the way. He could not track it down. He came back twice more and the door “behaved.” Hung-Rite refused to come back again. Hung-Rite now has two excuses for the problems, depending on when and whom they talk to.

1. The door needs “readjusting”

2. The door is “not up to code”

If the former, then why does the door operate smoothly? They obviously want to do the work, and get paid for it to boot, when it is not needed in the first place. Nothing like defrauding a customer. If the latter, it is an outright lie as I have an electric eye and thus the garage door is up to code. And why did the technician then work on it in the first place?

I put it to you that both claims are bogus. Hung Rite should be removed from your list of contractors. They lie try to defraud the customer, to boot. I will certainly never allow them to work on my garage door. By the way, I found out since that Hung Rite is referred to as Hung Wrong…

One other tidbit. First American then sent [redacted] for a “second opinion.” The technician did not even have to take a good look at things before he determined exactly what was causing the problem: a cobweb being waived in front of the electric eye when there was a breeze! He brushed it off and completely resolved the problem!

I had hung-rite doors come out to my house and install two springs that broke. They were dispatched based on who my home warranty company suggested. 2 years later these springs broke and I called them back. It seemed that this broke again pretty quickly. I called in and informed them of what happen. They said since I had them come out and they gave my warranty company a discounted price I wasn't eligible for their life time warranty that they told me it came with. I had to pay full price for them to come back and repair. I made several other calls to other garage door companies and they all informed me that my springs should be replaced by them. I called back in wanting to speak to a manager. I spoke with a [redacted] who became extremely combative. I asked why is it that they showed they charged my warranty company full price because I had a receipt. She informed me it was non of my business and told me to hold. When they picked up it was a different associate. When I asked who the manager was and the last name of [redacted] he informed me he didn't have to give any names out. When I said I would like to complain about the rude behavior he said he didn't care. I asked is there anyone else to talk to he said that is it. Extremely disappointed with this company.

Review: I had Hung-Rite Garage Doors install a new garage door at my residence in the Fall of 2013. In March,2014 the door continued to close on a child scooter that was left in the way of the garage door tract. As a result, the top portion of the garage door was damaged. I contacted Hung-Rite who came out and told me it would be approx. $211.00 to install a new top portion of the door. I wrote them a check for the job which they initially accepted and then returned to me. They were able to install the door but could not hook up the garage door to the opener because the garage door opener would no longer work.I then hired a licensed bonded garage door company who came and repaired the garage door opener at a cost of $80.00 During the repair, the repair tech told me that the door should not have closed on the scooter and should have reversed direction upon feeling pressure of the scooter. Furthermore, he said that the sensitivity was not adjusted correctly so that the door opener would reverse itself upon feeling pressure.Due to these findings, I informed the officer mgr. of Hung-Rite Doors named [redacted] that I wanted my garage door replaced with a matching window section like we initially had before the door opener bent it. [redacted] told me that we were "done" and that he would not replace the top door panel with a window piece. He went on to say that we would not be having a conversation about the door in the first place if a scooter had not been left in the way of the door.I initially requested a non-window piece panel to replace the window panel that was damaged due to believing I was responsible for the repair. After hiring the licensed and bonded repair company, I now know that the door malfunctioned because when Hung-Rite initially installed it, the sensitivity was never set correctly to stop the door if it met resistance.I am asking Hung-Rite to furnish a window garage door panel top piece just like we initially had rather than the solid non window piece they used.Desired Settlement: I want Hung-Rite to replace my top garage door panel with a window piece panel like we had prior to the garage door malfunctioning.I am willing to absorb the cost of having another company come out and install the window panel and will gladly return the solid panel they provided as a replacement.

I was in my house and my husband was in our front yard with the garage door opened so he could go in and out to grab tools as he was working in the yard. I heard a loud bang and ran outside to make sure he was okay. The garage door had slammed closed and the chain and cable were hanging out in front of the garage door. We have a home warranty through [redacted] (**) so I called them and reported the damage. [redacted] opened a repair ticket with Hung Rite Doors Inc (HRDI) and said that HRDI would be calling to schedule an appointment. Our service call cost is $60 so we were prepared to pay that upon arrival of a repairman.
HRDI called the next day to tell me that they would call the following day to let us know if they would be able to come out. This seemed like a lot of communication to schedule a service call but I just brushed it off. When they could finally come out, they gave me a four hour window of time that they could possibly come to my house the following day (Tuesday).
My husband was home when the technician arrived, let him in our home, walked him into the garage, and showed him where he saw damage. The repairman proceeded to tell my husband that the majority of the repair was not covered under warranty and that we needed to give him $342 right then to repair the opener. My husband told him that we could buy a whole new opener for less than that and that he thought that it wasn't worth the cost. So, my husband asked the repairman to just replace the parts that were covered under warranty and that we would have to have him come back to do the rest because we didn't have the $342. The repairman said that he didn't have the parts to fix it and that his office would call the following Wednesday (over a week later) to schedule him to come back out.
My husband and I spoke and decided to have them repair what was covered under warranty and then fix/replace what wasn't covered on our own because it would be cheaper that way.
That following Wednesday HRDI called me to schedule a technician to come back out to fix the garage door opener. When I told him that we only wanted the items replaced that were covered under warranty because we didn't have $342 to fix the opener, he raised his voice (not quite yelling but significantly louder) and was questioning why we weren't getting the entire opener fixed. He asked why we didn't just have the repairman do that when he was there and I told him that the guy didn't have the parts on him. He told me that my husband was a liar and that his technicians always have all of the parts that they need on their trucks. I asked him to please just schedule the warranty repair and he said that he wouldn't because it is too inconvenient to have a technician drive all of the way out to where we live (off of the 202 Red Mountain Freeway) to just do warranty work. I asked him to please calm down and told him that we couldn't afford $342. He said he would call me if he had a repairman in the area but that he wasn't going to have one make a special trip.
The next day (Thursday), [redacted] called me and said that HRDI had called them and informed them that I cancelled the repair order and asked why. I relayed the above accounts and the [redacted] rep said that it sounded like they were just trying to get more money out of us because it would have been cheaper for us to just replace the opener. [redacted] has since scheduled a different company to come out and inspect the opener and give us a quote. It is going to cost us $150 to do the same work HRDI quoted $342 (above and beyond the $60 we already paid for the service call).

Review: I contacted hung rite door to request service on my garage door/opener as the door was only opening and closing intermittently or opening half way. I was informed that they installed the door and opener but it was currently out of warranty. they were fully aware this was a RV garage door as they were the installers. on 6/27/13 technician from hung rite door came and informed us that the door needed "maintenance and cleaning", and gave me a receipt indicating the tech "added tension to springs and tighten chain, lube springs and rollers and check cables". I paid by check the requested amount of $145. the next day the garage door would not open just like before the service. I immediately contacted hung rite door and reported the problem. I was informed a tech would be sent out "next time we (hung rite) are in the area". I explained my car was stuck in the garage, the door would not open and I needed service immediately. I was informed "you are too far out". when the tech came out days later, he informed us that the "logi-board" was dead and needed to be replaced and they would order one and came back out to install it. at this time, we also requested they install a bracket for additional support and safety of the door. after more than 12 days I called them back as I had not been contacted to set up a time for the tech to come out, I even questioned the need to just replace the opener but they assured me that once the board was replaced the opener would work fine. after multiple days (more than 3weeks) with no service, my husband was able to reach the opener with a very tall ladder and clean the dust from the opener and the door started working. on 7/26/13 another tech came out and agreed that the logi-board did not need replacing, however he did not bring the supplies necessary to add the bracket. we asked if he could go get the supplies and return and he sated he could not do it the same day but would call to schedule another appointment. after 5 more days with no calls from hung rite to return, I contacted the office since they were unwilling to provide me with further service (you are too far out, the door is too big) requested a full refund on the "maintenance" that was performed since the work that was done did not fix the problem (garage door not opening). the office insists that the logi board needs changing, however their tech stated since the door was now opening the board did not need replacing.Desired Settlement: refund of the amount paid----$145

We did service this commercial door at her house and it was working fine when the tech left, they called backed after about a week and said it wasn't working so a different tech went out to look at the opener and it needed the logic board replaced in it , there was no charge at that time. they said ok and we had to order the part. we the part came in we rescheduled to go back out and when we got there the husband said it was working fine and didn't want to pay for the new board, so we left. we went three times and only collected for one and still have the logic board that we can not return and are out that cost.we will; not give any refund because they said it was working fine the last time we where there. Thank you [redacted] at Hung - Rite Door.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.Hello Revdex.com and [redacted] at Hung-Rite Door,I am appalled by the stand Hung-Rite Door is taking in response to my issue. Are you saying your company should get paid (by keeping MY hard earned money) because you came out three times and provided me with service only once, which did not repair the issue? As I explained in by Revdex.com complaint, the first tech came out on 6/27/13. I did not call Hung-Rite Door “after about a week”; I called the next day, on 6/28/13 at 11:42. From my wireless carrier, I have a call log with all our phone communications with exact date, times, and how long we spoke. I immediately reported the problem of the garage door not opening, which is the exact issue I called Hung-Rite Door to repair. The second tech told me I needed the logic board, he did not perform any work. After weeks of unanswered calls and waiting, my husband was able to repair the opener. Your third tech told me I did not need the logic board, did not perform any work, and left saying that he would return to install a bracket for safety, due to the size and heavy weight of the door. Since then, I have not heard from Hung-Rite Door, and when I contacted your company to ask about scheduling, Hung-Rite Door refused to return. You repeatedly told me during our phone conversations “you live too far”. I have tried to mediate the issue directly with Hung-Rite Door and you refused. Due to your poor service and especially lack of customer service, I will ensure all my family, friends, coworkers and neighbors avoid your company.Since the service you provided on your first visit did not repair the garage door opener, I am respectfully asking for a refund.Regards,[redacted]

Response:

We came out three times, the last time the husband said it was working and did'nt want us to replace the logic board in the opener so we left, this should have been a trip charge but we did not ask for any payment. we will not be refunding any money since all we cahrged was for labor and according to the owner it was working fine the last time we were there. This is a commercial garage door and was charged commercial rates, we do not service garage door's for free.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.I did not ask your business to "service the door for free". I paid you to repair the door and you did not fix or repair it. We ended up fixing the door ourselves. As far as the last trip, your tech was supposed to install a bracket which he did not do as he stated he did not have the parts. During all our phone conversations, your business NEVER informed me I would be expected to pay any "trip or service fee" just for showing up and providing no service. Again, I am respectfully asking for a refund. Regards,[redacted]
