In late or early we purchased Hunter Douglas blackout blinds to temper the effect of the sun in a sunroom as part of a whole house remodel The blinds were installed and have been periodically maintained by [redacted] , Inc., a certified Hunter Douglas dealerUntil recently we have been very happy with the product and very satisfied with the few repairs that have been necessary under the product’s Limited Lifetime warranty Now, apparently, that warranty is no longer being honored We paid slightly less than $1,per window shade X ten shades, so a total price of approximately $10,which years ago was a lot of money for usWe bought these blinds because of Hunter Douglas’ reputation for the quality of their product and because they came with a lifetime guaranteeIf we knew the lifetime warranty would not be honored, we wouldn’t have purchased the blinds in the first place According to their warranty, “Hunter Douglas Incwarrants that its Hunter Douglas brand window fashion products will be free from defects in materials and workmanship for as long as the original retail purchaser owns the product (or as otherwise set forth below*), PROVIDED THAT (i) such products were installed in residential dwellings; and (ii) such products were made or assembled exclusively from Hunter Douglas materials and components.” The products were installed and maintained by [redacted] , Inc., a Hunter Douglas licensed dealerWe are the “original retail purchaser.” Also according to the Hunter Douglas warranty, “The obligation Hunter Douglas and its licensed fabricators/distributors is limited to repair or replacement of the window fashion product or components found to be defective and excludes shipping charges and costs of removal and reinstallationRepairs will be made with like or similar parts.” Apparently, they now no longer make this model of the shadeTheir obligation with this lifelong warranty was to replace with “like or similar parts.” In the warranty it states that: “This warranty does not apply to conditions caused by wear and tear upon the product.” Still, they have replaced the parts several times before at no cost, as recently as January of this yearNow that they no longer make the parts, they have stopped standing by their warranty We have tried to deal directly with Hunter Douglas and [redacted] , Incfor monthsThey have offered "deals" if we're willing to pay another more than $5,We finally gave up and ordered blackout blinds from Home Depot for less than $This is a travesty that shouldn't just be swept under the carpet

In late 2002 or early 2003 we purchased Hunter Douglas blackout blinds to temper the effect of the sun in a sunroom as part of a whole house remodel. The blinds were installed and have been periodically maintained by [redacted], Inc., a certified Hunter Douglas dealer. Until recently we have been very happy with the product and very satisfied with the few repairs that have been necessary under the product’s Limited Lifetime warranty. Now, apparently, that warranty is no longer being honored.
We paid slightly less than $1,000 per window shade X ten shades, so a total price of approximately $10,000 which 10 years ago was a lot of money for us. We bought these blinds because of Hunter Douglas’ reputation for the quality of their product and because they came with a lifetime guarantee. If we knew the lifetime warranty would not be honored, we wouldn’t have purchased the blinds in the first place.
According to their warranty, “Hunter Douglas Inc. warrants that its Hunter Douglas brand window fashion products will be free from defects in materials and workmanship for as long as the original retail purchaser owns the product (or as otherwise set forth below*), PROVIDED THAT (i) such products were installed in residential dwellings; and (ii) such products were made or assembled exclusively from Hunter Douglas materials and components.” The products were installed and maintained by [redacted], Inc., a Hunter Douglas licensed dealer. We are the “original retail purchaser.”
Also according to the Hunter Douglas warranty, “The obligation Hunter Douglas and its licensed fabricators/distributors is limited to repair or replacement of the window fashion product or components found to be defective and excludes shipping charges and costs of removal and reinstallation. Repairs will be made with like or similar parts.” Apparently, they now no longer make this model of the shade. Their obligation with this lifelong warranty was to replace with “like or similar parts.”
In the warranty it states that: “This warranty does not apply to conditions caused by normal wear and tear upon the product.” Still, they have replaced the parts several times before at no cost, as recently as January of this year. Now that they no longer make the parts, they have stopped standing by their warranty.
We have tried to deal directly with Hunter Douglas and [redacted], Inc. for months. They have offered "deals" if we're willing to pay another more than $5,000. We finally gave up and ordered blackout blinds from Home Depot for less than $2500. This is a travesty that shouldn't just be swept under the carpet.
