Initial Business Response /* (1000, 17, 2017/07/27) */
As the owner of Hunter One Construction LLC; I'm at a loss on this one, I wanted to help this couple with their roof that was in disrepair and it's a story I'll never forget and a lesson that will stick with me. I have done 3956 roofs and...

I have never had a situation like this until now.
I still love helping clients and love putting value into their homes. Time Line:
Customer called on April 24th 2017 and wanted an estimate
We arrived and he just wanted us to help him and his 2 friends. I explained that we only use our H1 certified installers and we have a way that the roof must be installed for warranty reasons and our brand.
Customer agreed and said he had the material already from the garage they did 12 months ago and we agreed to use their materials.
Both parties verbally agreed to the on the 26th of April
Customer called back on April the 26th and said he had the money to move forward.
We arrived and started to tear off the 2 layers of shingles while they gathered their materials
After we tore off the Shingles we noticed a lot of bad wood and client informed us that a tree had fallen on their roof 2 years ago.
Client then wanted to file an Insurance claim on an incident that had happened two years ago. Stressing He wanted to pay the [redacted] deductible and get a brand new roof.
We explained that no insurance company pays for bad wood in a claim and no insurance company would pay on a 2 yr. old incident.
Client disagreed with us and started to get upset and was getting harder to assist.
The couple went into the home to discuss their options while we continued to work on the roof
The wife came out and said they were not going to call the insurance company on a 2 year old claim and wanted us to continue with the roof
We began to use their felt paper and found we were unable to peel it off of the roll and half the shingles they wanted us to use had mold growing on them. We informed the customer we would not install faulty materials and she then asked how much to replace the 2 rolls of felt paper would be. We let her know we would need [redacted] to get what we needed, she looked to her husband and attempted to hand him her wedding ring to be pawned.
Feeling uncomfortable I stopped her and told them I would run to Lowes and grab the felt paper.

Returned to the Home with the Felt paper and we felted the home and then discussed the shingles they needed to purchase.
The husband said he would purchase the shingles by that following Monday and would give us a call.
We informed them that the felt paper was very temporary and that they needed to let us know by Friday what they wanted to do for us to go forward. They agreed.
We didn't hear anything and called the male clients number 2 times May 1st at 9:30 am — No Voicemail
May 2nd at 9:30 am — Left a voice mail.
This roof was in disrepair and should have been repaired 10 years ago and with the damage the roof took 2 years ago that was never taken care of this roof was in bad shape.
We have learned a valuable lesson and we know going forward we will use our own materials and not use customer materials. I hope this helps any other contractor or customer.

Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (2000, 19, 2017/07/27) */
(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)
But due to Mr. [redacted] putting inexperienced workers on our roof they didn't remove the paper for the abrasive to stick, so everything has to be replaced 3ft up. My ceiling caved in due to it not being trapped. It started to rain before they even left. When the one worker that Mr. [redacted] took with called the other worker on the roof to stop work because they weren't getting paid due to Mr. [redacted] going out and buying new stereo for his truck, his worker purposely stomped out the wood that was replaced and put the felt paper over. The took the abrasive paper we bought and our new tarps. We called Mr. [redacted] 8a Sunday morning and his Uncle even said he wasn't answering for him. We called him because we needed help due to the rain coming in. So quite surely we were so mad and upset. Now we have to redue our roof 3ft up, we have black mold now, and fix our ceiling and walls. All that personal stuff about taking rings in has nothing to do with workmanship.
