Hunt's Contracting Reviews (5)

Hunt's did our roof about ten years ago. They recommended the 50 year shingles that we went with. The shingles started falling off within a couple months. They came out and renailed them. More started to fall off, they came out and redid a small section where the problem seemed to be particularly bad. Shingles continued to fall off and they started ignoring our calls. We finally got them to take our call and they told us it was wind damage (without coming out to look at it) we should call our insurance company (it wasn't wind damage). We paid an inspection company to come out and look at it. They said the shingles weren't for roofs with slopes as high as ours (It said so in the marketing brochures and right on the roof bundles) and they should have known better than to recommend them. I went to Hunt's office and complained to the owner. He said they'd come out and double nail everything - they never showed up. We have had another roofer come out and fix the falling shingles twice now. That roofer was absolutely appalled at the job that Hunt's had done. We thought this would be the last roof we would ever have to put on the house and now 10 years later were are reroofing again. They do not stand behind their work.

Review: In 2008 this company was paid $69,500 to place a new roof on our Church, Zion Episcopal Church of Oconomowoc, Wi. In late 2013 and to present, shingles have begun to fly off roof, dislodge, or move out of place. Upon direct examination, by other roofing specialists, , we are informed the roof is defective for the following reasons: the shingles are nailed too high outside manufacturers recommended proper nailing--therefore misapplied; the minimum number of nails were not applied to each shingle, again as required by manufacturer and standards within the industry; the contractor ignored its own agreed-to contract specifications and, by its negligence or malfeasance, voided the 25yr. factory warranty.

We are a nonprofit institution, a church, and are still paying for debt incurred to have roofing done by this company. In addition, our Church was built initially in 1846; we are the longest established Church in Oconomowoc, and have landmark status. We are the most photographed Church in the State and our interior includes one of the oldest pipe organs in the state.Desired Settlement: We want what we paid for: a $69,500 roof that will last for 25 years, as indicated in Warranty on shingles and we want fully enforced implied warranty of proper workmanship and standard of care for roofing industry in s. e. wisconsin.

Review: My neighbor next-door at [redacted]. had her roof replaced. The workers doing the job dropped a hammer and possibly other tools on top of two of my fence panels breaking them. It is been very difficult for me to get in touch with the owner, this is been going on since last March,Desired Settlement: I would like the owner to replace the two fence panels he broke in the installation of my neighbors roof

Review: 09/04/2003 We had Hunts install a new roof (30 year Elk Birchwood shingles), flashing around the chimney, ice/ water membrane across front and back, remove and install new vents. Now the roof leaks in many places. We had two professional roofers inspect the roof 12/17/14 both said the same things. The shingles were installed wrong rendering the Shingle warranty null and void. The chimney flashing was installed over the existing flashing after the roof was in place rendering this useless. The ice/ water membrane was installed wrong, useless. The plumbing stack vent had the wrong type of vent installed causing a leak in the center of our living room. they described the job as just a plain bad instillation job.Desired Settlement: Refund all the money we spent on labor and materials that we're installed incorrectly.

Review: I had my old roof torn off and replaced with a new roof with 30year premium grade architectural shingles about 12 years ago. Within 8 years, I had whole rows of shingles that were sliding down off my roof. I called Hunt's Contracting and they sent 2 employees to reattach the shingles twice in a year. A year later, the same thing happened again. I called the business again and was told that they would no longer fix the roof and that the previous repairs were done as a courtesy. When I told them that the shingles were warrantied for 30 years, they informed me that the manufacturer was out of business and that they would not honor the warranty. I repeatedly contacted them by phone and when I told them that I would file a complaint last Summer when whole rows of shingles were again sliding down as well as complete shingles were off, they said that they had a lot of roofs in the same situation. They said they would repair it again as soon as possible. It is almost 9 months later and nothing has been done. I now have more shingles off. I have contacted the company and been promised over a dozen times that they would get to it soon with no results.Desired Settlement: I would like the business to repair and/or replace my roof shingles. They have promised to repair the faulty shingles for almost 9months now and nothing has been done.
