Hurricane Auto Repair Reviews (3)

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ***, and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below
June 3rd, The response from Hurricane Auto is addressed with the comments in blue 1, Hurricane Auto Repair provides a manufacturer 's warranty on all parts purchased through hurricane auto repairHurricane auto repair provided no parts to customercustomer purchased and brought his own parts and hired us to install them Yes, that is correct, but this issue does not concern the parts, but how Hurricane Auto assembled themNew seals and gaskets were supplied to Hurricane Auto when the car was dropped offThere was no problem with those parts, or the hardware on the carThe exhaust manifolds were not torque as required when Hurricane Auto reassembled the engine, and that resulted in exhaust leaks on the engine 2, hurricane auto repair provides no towing servicecustomers are responsible for their own dropping off and picking up of vehicles Hurricane Auto originally offered to use their trailer to transport my car to their shop. Then it was a number of excuses as to why the trailer was somewhere else, or could not be used. Use of their trailer was again discussed when the exhaust problem was first identified, but the owner cited worries that the car was too low to the ground to use his trailer. After misdiagnosing the exhaust leak as being an issue with the exhaust pipe seal, the owner offered to pay for the transport to an exhaust shop where I planned to have a new exhaust system installed 3, hurricane auto repair has no mobile mechanicsAll of our work is done in our shop located in Culloden West Vir ginia I did not ask for a mobile mechanic. I asked for the owner to come to the garage at my house (minutes from his shop) to see for himself the issue I had identified. It was only by disassembly of quite a few engine components, and alternate raising of the entire engine one side at a time that I was able to gain access to the exhaust manifold bolts and find out that they were not torqued to the manufacturer’s specifications. The carbon blon both the exhaust manifolds and the gaskets were clear evidence that exhaust gasses were coming out all around the exhaust manifolds instead of being directed into the exhaust pipes and mufflers 4, hurricane Auto Repair is a small family owned and operated businessThere is only one mechanicwe are unable to operate business outside of our shopIt would require closing for the day When the car was originally worked on at their shop, the owner stated that he had someone to work on the car who knew all about older cars, but was not a full time employee, and only came into the shop during certain timesTo me, that indicated more than one mechanic. Additionally, again I did not ask for a mechanic to come to see the car at my house, just the owner, and that was to be late in the day after his shop had closed for the day The customer that is complaining hired us year s agoIt was in the customer contacted us in May of this year, two year s after the work was performedwhen arrangements could be made our mechanic to visit customer s garage, customer stated that he had already disassembled the car and no longer wanted us to do the work that he was taking care of it himself I'm not real sure of what the customer s expectations were as far as a warranty but, we warranty our labor for monthsThis car has been out of our care for years! we have no idea of what has happened to that car I n the last year The car is question is a classic car that is in the process of being restored, and is not a daily driven vehicle. Actually, although the car is licensed, and registered, it has not been driven over the last years except on and off car haulers to have work performed. After the work was performed at Hurricane Auto, an electrical problem sidelined all work on the car until the following spring. Once the car was started at the time, the exhaust leak issue was identified, and the owner of Hurricane Auto came out to my house to see the car. He acknowledged responsibility for the issue at that time, and indicated that his mechanic must not have attached the exhaust pipes to exhaust manifolds correctly, or let some debris get caught between the pipe and manifold. Knowing that I intended to have a new exhaust system installed on the car, he instead offered to pay for the tow truck to transport the car to the shop that would install the new exhaust pipes. He gave me $towards the cost of the transport to the exhaust system shop, and I had it transported there to have the new system installed. To me, that action indicates the owner’s recognition that his shop was responsible for the issue Immediately after the exhaust system was installed, I started the car at the exhaust shop only to hear the same exhaust leak on the car. I talked to the mechanic who had installed the exhaust and he indicated that everything was new and attached correctly downstream of the exhaust manifolds, and it had to be an issue with the exhaust manifolds themselves. The car had to be towed back to my house After this past winter, when it was too cold to work in my unheated garage, I began my own disassembly of the engine to identify the source of the exhaust leaks. Access to the exhaust manifold bolts is extremely limited and required quite a few components be removed from the engine to gain access to the area. Once I had taken the engine apart to this extent, and identified the true issue of the untorqued bolts, it did not make sense to have the car transported back to Hurricane Auto along with all the parts I had taken off the car that would have to be reassembled I talked to the shop several times over a week period to try and have them see the evidence of the poor work performed on my car, but ran into a multitude of excuses as to when and how they would be able to see the car at my house. Additionally, the owner indicated that I should have re-torqed the bolts in question after a period of time. When I relayed to him that the car had not run for more than a total of one hour since they had re-assembled the engine, and that it was not possible all the bolts had loosened on their own with that little time on the engine, he had no response I have asked for what I believe is fair to help offset the costs of additional transport of the car from the exhaust shop, new gaskets and parts for the exhaust manifolds, as well as a small stipend for all the hours I spent taking the engine apart, and then putting it back together correctly Regards, *** ** ***
