Review: Our first floor mini [redacted] air conditioner was replaced by HVAC Technologies because the original system that came with the house experienced an electrical fire as the result of the wiring being the wrong gauge size.

List of issues with the new installation:

1.The line set installed with the system is too short (approximately 4-5') as opposed to the required minimum length of 9'. The line set diameters are also larger than the required sizes for that model. The existing incorrectly sized line set was reused from previous system.

2. Leak Lock was used to repair a leaking flare fitting, which was later determined via communication with [redacted] and other service technicians, to be a potential damaging substance for the system. The Leak Lock was used because the flare connection behind the indoor unit had leaked multiple times after the installation. Proper seals were not made and leak lock was inappropriately used.

3. We asked another service company to do an inspection of the system and were told that silver brazing was used to connect the line set flare connections. According to the inspector, this process is wrong as it can potentially allow debris and other substances to enter the refrigerant line and damage the moving components of the system.

4. The line set in the wall behind the indoor unit was not insulated causing the refrigerant to absorb heat before arriving at the indoor blower unit and also created exposed condensation behind our wall.

5. We were offered the option to upgrade the system we purchased to a 'heat pump' system so that the system would both heat and cool. We were told this required purchasing an additional $65 4 way valve. The company attempted to install a 4-way valve into a system that was not designed to be altered in any way. By tampering with the interior components of the system, HVAC Technologies voided our warranty and caused permanent damage to the system ([redacted] informed us that the warranty would no longer be honored). The company either had no understanding of what they were doing with the valve, or they lied and tried to steal money from us by claiming to install a component that couldn't and wouldn't work. Not only did they delay the installation process, but it took them 9 months to refund the $65. We had to call the service manager every day until the check was finally sent to us.

After the system was finally installed, it experienced 3 leaking incidents. By this point, it was too cold outside to properly meter the correct amount of Freon for the system. HVAC Technologies told us they would be at the house the first week in spring where the ambient temperature outside was warm enough for them to finish the job. They refused to return to our home, answer our calls, or refund us for the damaged system.

List issues with customer service:

1. One of the flare connections behind the indoor unit leaked multiple times immediately after installation and the company took a long time to come back and fix it on many of those occasions.

2. The indoor blower was making a noticeable squeaking/rattling sound at the 2 lower speeds ("Low" speed and "Quiet" speed)and the company's solution was telling us to only run the blower on higher speeds. A brand new system should function at all available settings.

3. The company told us they would return in the spring time to complete testing and setup of the system. They were extremely unresponsive to phone calls and voicemails.

4. The company service manager left the country and left no forwarding information. I did get through to one of the service technicians shortly before this time and was not given any indication of an extended down time.

5. After the company had refused to return to our home by ignoring us, we asked another company to inspect the system only. HVAC Technologies used that as justification not to return because "we had another company do repairs on the system so they were no longer responsible". We repeated informed HVAC Technologies that no one else touched or altered the system, it was simply looked at.

6. The manager of the company was very rude about the situation and basically told us they did not need to come back for any reason.

7. On multiple occasions they complained about not getting paid to be doing the repair work on the system even though they had not installed it correctly.

List of damages and costs incurred:

1. $1600 in labor costs

2. Cost to replace the system (now permanently damaged) ($1200-$1400)

3. Cost required to purchase and have a new system correctly installed (approx $3200-3500). This is based on estimates from 3 local companies

3. Oil marks on our wall from 3 leaking incidents which now needs to be cleaned and repainted

4. Removal of old unit from roof (HVAC Technologies left the first unit that caught on fire on the roof and simply put their new one next to it)

Our request: We want to be refunded the FULL (labor and materials) to have system fully replaced and the wall repaired. Estimated to be $3500 with wall repair.Desired Settlement: We want to be refunded the FULL amount (labor and materials) to have system CORRECTLY replaced. This includes:

1. a new mini split system air conditioner

2. new insulated line sets

3. proper mounting of the outdoor unit on the roof to control vibration and stress on roof

4. Removal of old systems from roof

4. Cost to have wall repaired and painted

Based on 3 estimates from HVAC companies, the total cost of unit replacement and repairs are estimated to be $3500
