HY-C Company *** *** *** Saint Louis, MO November 14, StLouis Revdex.com*** * *** Saint Louis, MO This letter is in regards to Mr*** ***’s active complaint that the Revdex.com contacted HY-C Company about on Monday, November 6,
Mr*** purchased two identical chimney covers manufactured by HY-C Company in 2010. We understand his complaint is over a perceived buiand subsequent runoff staining of what he identifies as “rust” from one of the two chimney covers. The second identical chimney cap shows no signs rusting or rust staining Mr***’s chimney cover is fabricated out of two materials: copper and copper plated grade stainless steel. These materials do not rust. A member of the HY-C staff informed Mr*** that we included our copper supplier, and a chimney sweep with years of experience with HY-C chimney covers in our investigation into Mr***’s claims. The feedback was that none of the professionals have ever heard of, or seen an instance of a copper chimney cover, copper flashing or copper gutter actually rustingDue to the inability for copper or stainless to rust, we communicated our interest for Mr*** to continue providing further information. Our hope has been to assist Mr*** to get to the cause the effect he identifies as “rust”Mr*** shared that the chimney cover he identified as “rusting” is installed as part of a hearth system actively burning cord wood, while the identical second cover is installed in a twin hearth structure that is operating a decorative gas hearth appliance. This second chimney cover does not show any evidence of perceived “rusting” as Mr*** has described it, despite an identical installation and exposure to weather. This gives reason to speculate that the staining is not from our product rusting, but rather from creosote; an ineluctable byproduct of wood-fueled fireplacesAdditionally, we informed Mr*** that we have been made aware of hundreds, if not thousands of cases where creosote from wood burning fireplaces has created a similar look and issue There may be other corrosive materials present truly able to weep iron oxide stains at no cause from our product We welcome further dialogue from Mr*** or the Revdex.com. Given the basis of Mr***’s complaint to date, it is our request for Mr*** to provide additional evidence to support his claim; Close up photos, material samples, chimney sweep records & hearth reports, etc Sincerely, *** ** *** HY-C Company

2017. Mr. [redacted] purchased two identical chimney covers manufactured by HY-C Company in 2010.  We understand his complaint is over a perceived build-up and subsequent runoff staining of what he identifies as “rust” from one of the two chimney covers.  The second identical chimney cap shows no signs rusting or rust staining.
