Dear [redacted], I hope you are doing well. I received the complaint and here is my response below.Ideal Construction and Remodeling went into contract with [redacted] on the dates mentioned and shown on the contract [redacted] sent in his complaint. Mr. Larry h[redacted] was the salesman...

and subcontractor on the job. Mr. H[redacted] signed the contract and went through cabinet selection with customer from a catalog for Brand called Forever mark cabinets. [redacted] chose door style color and signed off on floor plan.( attached in this email) . After Mr. h[redacted] was fired for not following through and nonpayment for workers, I Jason j[redacted] met with the customer and went through the contract and took over the project management. when the cabinets were delivered to the site, I received a call from [redacted] claiming that the cabinets were wrong and not what they ordered and requested that I bring the catalog they ordered from. Upon arriving to the job site, [redacted] met me outside his house in the driveway and asked me to show him the catalog and not letting me inside his house.  Again [redacted] claimed that it wasnt the same catalog and called the police, and when I asked his wife why is he calling the police she said that it was for our own safety! when the police officer arrived to the house and we explained the situation to the officer we went inside and went over the catalog and the cabinets and. After 30 mins of arguing about the cabinets, the color, and the catalog, [redacted] realized that hose were the right cabinet and catalog and apologized infront of the police officer. the cabinets stayed in the customer's house for atleast  3 days while we installed the flooring and finished  painting, he never said anything about the cabinets, we even did a kitchen layout using the cabinets to determine the missing cabinets. after determining the missing cabinets, Ideal ordered the cabinets and picked up the cabinets by hand from New Jersey so we dont miss the deadline before the manufacturer closed for the holidays ( again cabinets remained in his house for another week or so without mentioning anything o us. teh only time he said anything was aquestion about the quality and I specifically told him that these cabinets were not a high end cabinets and that we installed them alot and never received any complaints so far. If the customer did his research as he claims, then my question is why did he let us install them , install the granite counter tops, the back splash and finish the entire kitchen ? why didnt he stop us and ask for different cabinets when he first saw the cabinets weeks prior to installation. The customer on more than one occasion admitted that the kitchen looks great.  Another proof on how [redacted] does a good research on materials, prior to installing the sink faucet, [redacted] chose a special order faucet, and when I asked him why not go with a bronze faucet that isnt a special order and that is available in stock, he told me that this faucet has bad reviews. he could have done the same for cabinets if it was true. As for the quality and management, the customer probably expected us to have a project manager onsite 24/7. this was never promised . the workers worked on this project expect for the person who did the demolition ( [redacted] sub) and the first electriciann ( [redacted] sub) are in fact Ideal construction workers, and I have proof to show if necessary . the project did take longer to complete, but he customer is also calculating the time lost ordering a damaged wall cabinet and panel ,  these items did not affect the project or the fact that the customer ability to use the kitchen. we went over and beyond to honor the contract and to make sure that he is satisfied. when he called to complain about house the fridge is so close and very tight to cabinets next to it, we went out and showed him how the side of his fridge isnt straight, and warped from the left side, we still ordered new fillers and moved the left pantry adn the framing under it. he also, told us that he can not see the controls on the stove because of the cabinets above the microwave was 18 inches high ( cabinet of his choosing and you can see that in the attached proof) we also ordered him an new 15inch cabinet with no additional charge. About the load wall, we agreed to a refund of $3k that was used to order 3 cabinets, and upgrade on the hardwood floor. We even shook hands on that as well.as for money , there is still a $5k final payment the customer didnt pay. we have agreed due to the length of the project and the inconvenience that this final payment is a refund and that he didnt have to pay it, and this agreement was done when we did a walk through while the cleaning crew was cleaning the house ( ideal sent the cleaning crew although it wasnt in the contract, and no additional charge just to show what Ideal was doing to satisfy the customer) the customer is trying to blame everybody but himself on wrong decisions he made with the salesman, and now trying to get refund for his mistake. Ideal did everything in its power to satisfy the customer, and I explained to [redacted] that I wasnt concerned about money or profit. if [redacted] had told us about the cabinets and that he didnt like the quality of that cabinets prior to installing them while sitting in his house for weeks, then we could have replaced them, or ordered disfferent cabinets. but why wait till the job is done and then complain and ask for money.

[To assist us in bringing this matter to a close, you must give us a reason why you are rejecting the response. If no reason is received your complaint will be closed Administratively Resolved]
 Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting the response provided by Mr. J[redacted] because:  The
response provided by Mr. J[redacted] is correct, only to a point.  The cabinets
were selected from the ONLY catalog provided by Ideal at the beginning of the
project, when I had some trust and faith in their integrity.  The catalog
was provided after discussing the cabinet quality my wife and I expected and
after we had explicitly asked NOT to use "flat box" cabinets.  Mr.
J[redacted] is correct that we chose from the catalog provided, because, at that
point, we trusted the Ideal representative.  Mr. J[redacted] was aware, from
the day the cabinets arrived, that they were substandard and in no way
compatible with the contract price quoted. I did, repeatedly, call in to
question cabinet quality.  The following is from a text to Mr. J[redacted];
"Yes, I should have been more skeptical in the beginning and not so
trusting.   But I believed Ideal was the contractor.  I am still
not happy about the cabinets and how I was taken in.  My objective was to
upgrade the kitchen, not to simply install "new" cabinets, but better
ones.  The ONLY reason the cabinets will go up is because I did, blindly,
sign off on them. My repeat "complaints" stem from your crew applying
jury - rig solutions to challenges that occur.   I'll point some
things out when you are next here.  Jason, I expected a high quality when
I set out to get this project done. All-in-all, I am very disappointed."
Mr. J[redacted] argued that the cabinets were "quality cabinets" and
used in many of his projects. and never admitted they were "low
end" cabinets until the day he was in our home to close the contract
(February 6th, 2015).  AT NO TIME DURING DISCUSSIONS OF THE POOR QUALITY
OF THE CABINETS DID MR. J[redacted] OFFER ALTERNATIVES NOR DID HE OFFER TO REPLACE
THE CABINETS WITH ONES OF BETTER QUALITY.  If the deceit used in getting
us to "select" the cabinets and their poor quality were the only
reason for our complaint, I would still reject Mr. J[redacted]s excuses..
However, Ideal's initial proposal for the project was based on
the premise that the wall being removed was structural (i.e. load
bearing).   This was later deemed to be not the case.  A
legitimate contractor, espousing the credentials listed on the Ideal web site,
would have known. PRIOR to proposing, that the wall was NOT load bearing.
The ease with determining the wall was non-structural should have been accomplished
prior to the proposal and demonstrates the intent to deceive.
During performance of the contract, Mr. J[redacted] continued to raise price
issues and substitute items we selected.  He stated the flooring selected,
using the process he defined, was beyond scope; he directed us to a different
granite vendor from the one we originally selected our countertops;
he offered a substitute faucet; the sink we selected was changed
(but my wife caught the switch and required the sink selected be
delivered); neither a contract plan nor a schedule were ever provided,
even though they were requested (and required by contract);  The cabinets
compound the issue, and the quality of work throughout the project add further
substance.   The absolutely
unsatisfactory length of the project, due to barely competent performance, and
the total lack of oversight, management and quality control, validate my
dissatisfaction.
Mr. J[redacted]s statement that we had
agreed to accept $3000 reduction in price due to the wall not being load-bearing
and to forfeit that reduction for "upgraded flooring" and additional
cabinets is a lie.  I did not, and still
don't, agree that the $3000 reduction would cover the costs of work required had
the wall been load-bearing.  Further, the
floor was selected from the samples presented to us by the vendor we were sent
to.  There were no "additional"
cabinets required, since the island cabinet base is still smaller than the
contract requirement; the cabinet above the stove that required replacement in
order to use the stove was NOT of our choosing - Ideal, in fact, selected sizes
and ordered all wall cabinets to match the base layout without input from
us.
Subsequent to receiving our complaint from the Revdex.com, Mr.
J[redacted] stated in a text message to me that he was working with Stafford to
correct the Building Permit.  He also offered
an additional price reduction of $5000 (bringing the cost to $38,600).  In my opinion, this is too little, too late.
Regarding the Building Permit; there appears to be a problem. It was obtained by
Ideal and conveniently omits the new plumbing, electrical work, and removal of
the wall.  No independent inspections were requested by Ideal and none have
been performed on any of the work.  I am currently waiting to hear from
Stafford County regarding the permit and inspection issue.
Regards,
[redacted]

Dear Sir,
Thank you for the time  and effort the Revdex.com is putting in this matter. Attached are the emails sent to [redacted] with the break down for the wall and the refund to which he responded. Also attached the email Mr. H[redacted] sent regarding the work and the flooring issue. I n the emails that are attached you will see that the breakdown sums to $2000 for the wall but the customer was offered additional $1000 for inconvenience totaling to $3000. this number was discussed and agreed upon to be used for the flooring upgrade and additional cabinets for the island until [redacted] brought the matter up while all three of us were standing outside on the deck and I walked away upset due to the fact that Ideal wont be paid the final payment of $5000. Knowing this information, Ideal still continued the project till the end knowing we wont be paid when we finish.
on the day of walk through while cleaning crew were on site , the customers raised 2 issues with the floors, a scratch by the refrigerator and a gap between 2 flooring planks. The customers were upset and wanted to close the contract , but I refused to leave on such note . so we scheduled the flooring crew to come out to do the repairs and also agreed to deduct the final payment and call it a day. We also shook hands upon it. This shows the cost and money are not an issue and also shows that we wanted to satisfy them in any way.
as for claims on replacing materials the customers chose, this is not true. the customers chose and agreed on cabinets with Mr.  H[redacted], chose the granite from the granite yard and directly with the vendor. We had an issue with the sink but it was corrected immediately to meet their request and choice. the customer choose back splash tile with no costs issues. The customer chose cabinet handles, the customer chose the sink faucet ( special order) . The customer chose paint color and brand. the customer chose the handrails and agreed on design.  I am not sure at what point we changed their choices and used cheaper materials.
Yes, I did send [redacted] a text message informing him about the permits and offer him another $5000 refund to bring the amount he paid down to $38000 and hopefully to satisfy him. As for the permits, we are in the process of obtaining the electrical  and plumbing permits. I spoke to [redacted] from Stafford county this morning and explained the situation and we will correct this issue.
to sum this matter, Ideal completed the project according to the contract . there are 2 pending issues, the permits and is being taken care off, and the second issue is duration of the project. If we are to ignore the emails I have attached and accept the fact that [redacted] denies agreeing to the refund of $3000 and use the refund to upgrade the floor, the customer received $2000 refund for the wall removal and also $3000 for delays and inconvenience. I am not sure what else Ideal can do at this point to resolve this matter. All the work performed matches the contract and all documents signed by the client were sent in the previous response.
Sincerely,
Jason J[redacted]

Dear [redacted],
I hope you are doing well. I received the complaint and here is my response below.
Ideal Construction and Remodeling went into contract with [redacted] on the dates mentioned and shown on the contract [redacted] sent in his...

complaint. Mr. Larry h[redacted] was the salesman and subcontractor on the job.
We even shook hands on that as well.
as for money , there is still a $5k final payment the customer didnt pay. we have agreed due to the length of the project and the inconvenience that this final payment is a refund and that he didnt have to pay it, and this agreement was done when we did a walk through while the cleaning crew was cleaning the house ( ideal sent the cleaning crew although it wasnt in the contract, and no additional charge just to show what Ideal was doing to satisfy the customer)
the customer is trying to blame everybody but himself on wrong decisions he made with the salesman, and now trying to get refund for his mistake.

I am rejecting this response because:
[redacted],
Again, thank you for your assistance in
handling this complaint.
Mr. J[redacted]'s response that the permit issues
were resolved is correct.  However, I would
like to note that action was only taken by Mr. J[redacted] after he was given a
deadline of 2/27/2014 to pull the required permits by Stafford County Building
Inspector, [redacted], acting on my complaint to the County. I would also note, the permits were not pulled by Ideal.
It is also true the issues identified in the
inspection were relatively minor; but noted was the fact that electrical,
plumbing, and overhang insulation inspections couldn't be performed because
those areas were concealed in the finished renovation. As of today, an
inspection of the fixes has not occurred.
In summarizing the exchange with Mr. J[redacted]:
Mr. J[redacted] accepts no responsibility in failing
to honor our pre-contract agreement to install new cabinets of higher quality
than those removed. He further denies he was aware of my dissatisfaction with
the cabinets and transfers responsibility for their low quality to me. This is
absurd.  I'm not sure what Mr. J[redacted] is
referring to when he says I signed for them. The only thing I initialed was a very crude
cabinet layout diagram, which is incorrect and has no relation to the final
layout.  Yes, I understand Mr. J[redacted]'s
irritation that I keep bringing up being cheated regarding the lack of quality
of the cabinets. Each of the installed cabinets is exhibiting cracks.  I have estimates ranging in cost between $15K
and $18K to replace the cabinets with solidly built, quality cabinets.
Mr. J[redacted] offers no explanation for not
providing the contractually required plans and drawings appropriate to a
construction project involving wall removal, electrical, and plumbing work; and
for which a premium price has been paid.
Mr. J[redacted] offers no explanation or reason,
for a project, contracted to take 3 to 4 weeks, to remain incomplete after over
4 months. I suggest the answer to that is incompetent management of an inept
and unqualified work force. Or, perhaps, a deliberate attempt to extend the
nightmare.
Mr. J[redacted] provided no reason to have not
obtained the contractually, and legally, required permits prior to initiating
the project or to have not complied with my requests to call for inspections
after the rough-in was completed and prior to initiating the finishing stage of
the project.
If this project had been based on progress
payments rather than 90% up-front, Ideal would have been fired when the
electrician and laborer came to my door for payment, instead of going to Mr.
J[redacted].  As a matter of fact, at three
specific times during the project I asked for a refund and that Ideal step away
from the project.  Each time, Mr. J[redacted]
refused and assured me the he would provide plans, a schedule-to-completion,
and personally guaranteed a quality product.
In each case, he delivered nothing promised
If there is doubt regarding my claims, I
would invite an independent, certified, contractor or carpenter to inspect the
project.
In closing, I find Mr. J[redacted]'s latest response
to be insulting and indicative of the arrogance and attitude I have been
dealing with throughout this project.
Going into this investment in my home, my
wife and I placed our trust in Ideal Construction and Remodeling.  Ideal's agents, Mr. Larry H[redacted] and Mr.
Jason J[redacted] have proven, through their actions (and inactions) and statements,
to be shysters who abused our trust and our tolerance.
I have also lodged a complaint with the
Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation. As of this
date, the complaint remains under consideration.
Respectfully,

 Complaint: [redacted]

Good Evening, I hope you are doing well. To give you an update of whats going on, we corrected  the permits issues and called for inspection. Just like any construction project there were some minor repairs needed that would take a bout a day worth of work for the electrician to fix. these repairs are scheduled this Thursday the 12th.  We keep discussing the cabinets and plans, If [redacted] had issues with them, why did he sign them and agree to these cabinets? He keeps saying he signed blindly knowing that he is paying 48K for this project. We offered [redacted] 5K and we were willing to maybe refund another 5K but unfortunately he already filed a complaint agains Ideal construction and Remodeling with the DPOR in VA. and since he did that, I guess the refund doenst make any sense now. I will send another email once the inspections are passed . Sincerely, Jason J[redacted]

I did, repeatedly, call in to
question cabinet quality.  The following is from a text to Mr. J[redacted];
He stated the flooring selected,
using the process he defined, was beyond scope; he directed us to a different
granite vendor from the one we originally selected our countertops;
he offered a substitute faucet; the sink we selected was changed
Regards,
[redacted]

Dear Sir, Thank you for the time  and effort the Revdex.com is putting in this matter. Sincerely, Jason J[redacted]
