Idyllwild Arts professional staff reviewed the incident at the time it happened and again subsequent to complainant's correspondenceIdyllwild Arts participants and their families
agree upon registering that participants will follow the student Standards of Behavior (copied below and available at http://www.idyllwildarts.org/page.cfm?p=879&pback=719)Standards of Behavior is shared prior to registration and provided with registration materialsWe clearly state that gross violation of the Standards of Behavior will result in immediate explusion with no refund
In the course of investigation, the child involved admitted to behavior, including inappropriate physical contact, that violated the Standards of BehaviorHis admission agreed with accounts reported individually and separately by several fellow campers
We believe we have responded appropriately to the incident and in line with our published policies and the agreements made between the institution and participants and their guardiansWe initiated contact with the complainant when the incidents occurred and subsequently have responded outlining the investigations, reiterating the policies and actions taken, and sharing our deep concerns for the safety and well-being of all participants involvedWe stand by our policies, procedures, agreements and actions as they relate to this incident
Standards of Behavior

Fostering respect for individuals, for the arts, and for education is the foundation upon which expectations of student behavior are basedBecause most students are responsible and focused in their artistic pursuits, the Summer Program does not emphasize rules at the expense of learning and creativityAt check-in, students are asked to sign a Student Contract outlining basic rules of behaviorA few policies pertaining to safe and cooperative communal living, and adherence to State and Federal laws are enforced rigorously
1) Smoking is prohibited for all Youth, Junior Artists and Children's Center studentsStudents found smoking or in possession of cigarettes or other tobacco products will be expelled with no refund of fees
2) Minor studentsunder the age of 21found in possession of alcohol, and any student found in possession of illegal drugs or drug paraphernalia will be expelled with no refund of fees
3) Vandalism against and theft of property and possessions of the school or other students will not be tolerated and will result in immediate expulsion with no refund of fees
4) Acts of violence, real or threatened; harassment or intimidation of any member of the school community will not be tolerated and may result in expulsion with no refund of fees
5) Youth, Junior Artists and Children's Center students may not leave the campus without written parental permission and the consent of the Dean of StudentsStudents found off campus are subject to expulsion with no refund of fees or other disciplinary measures
6) Appropriate behavior and dress are expected at all times
7) Pets are not allowed on campusThere are no exceptions to this rule
8) Students are expected to attend every class meeting or rehearsalIf a student is unable or unwilling to participate fully in the program, he/she may be asked to leave the program with no refund of fees
