Initial Business Response / [redacted] (1000, 10, 2015/08/25) */ Complaintants were tenants who came to IL Tenants Union in January 2015. They were being sued for eviction, and for months of owed rent. We offered to refer to them an attorney who would represent them in their court case. Our offer was that... the attorney to whom we would refer them would settle the case by getting them at least two months to move from the original court date of 1/15/15, which would be 3/15/15. We also said that the attorney would attempt to reduce or eliminate any money judgment, though that outcome could not be guaranteed. Tenants signed a contract with the IL Tenants Union for this service. They paid us a fee of $1,300. The attorney was able to delay the process so that the final trial was delayed until 3/17/15. This date was already two days BEYOND the move-out date we had contracted would be achieved for the tenants. Complaintants attorney arrived for trial on 3/17/15; the defendants did not. Without the defendants there, the attorney was unable to get any more time or avoid a money judgment, as there was no testimony to be given. Judge ordered tenants to move, and entered a money judgment against them. If the defendants had appeared in court, the outcome might have been somewhat more favorable. However, that was beyond the control of the attorney or the IL Tenants Union. We offered to obtain an attorney to represent the tenants. We stated that we could get them at least until 3/15/15 to move, and would try to avoid some or all of a money judgment, if that was possible. Therefore, we fulfilled our contract with the tenants. The complaintants are not due any refund. The IL Tenants Union does not deserve any penalty or censure from the RevDex.com. Douglas [redacted] Associate Director Illinois Tenants Union
