On 12/17/we became aware that our employees were embezzling from us and contacted the police that same day and filled a reportWe also fired
everyone that worked for usA few days after we had a customer that came to us and said his unit was broken into and had found Ms***'s briefcase in his unit, it was not an Irongate employee as Ms*** indicatedBecause of the situation that was going on with the embezzlement we thought it could be related to the previous employeesOn 12/24/14, Christmas Eve, and as soon as a detective was assigned the case, I gave a statementI gave a hour statement and I told him about the briefcase and the other unitI felt, as the owner of the company, we had done our job by contacting the police and felt the police will deal with the situation accordinglyIn March of the detective contacted Ms*** to ask her about her unit, which had been secured by IrongateShe told the detective she had not visited the unit in approxyears because she lives over miles away in Washington and is not sure whats even in the unitBy this time, however, we had determined that the previous employees were NOT stealing from up to date units but taking cash from the company and stealing from ONLY "liened" units(Units people had stopped paying on and were legally ready to go to auctionNO units were wrongfully auctioned.) We know this because after the previous employees left we had more attempts of theft in which the unit holders contacted police themselvesI spoke with Ms*** and told her I was very confident that the girls DID NOT steal from her unitShe said she was planning on visiting and would then check on the unit but couldn't do it until May, months awayShe also stated she would stop in the office when she comesShe asked why we didn't contact her personally and I told her it was because we had contacted the police and they said they would be in contact with herIt wasn't because we were negligentDuring this whole situation Ms***'s unit was secured with a lock provided by IrongateWe even offered to take pictures of the unit so that Ms*** could see if things were in disarray, which we did and sent them to Ms*** (we have if you need to see them)She said that she remembers, from years ago, that there was more in the unit and things were not as messy as they show in the picturesShe finally showed up to check on the unit in MayShe left her keys and someone else in charge of her unit which should be noted on her contract and signed by her but she never stopped by the office as she said she would do in an email to Irongate in AprilAfter she left to return to Washington our maintenance man noticed she had left her unit UNLOCKEDWe secured the unit and had to call herShe had to have someone come over and lock it back upShe also left things outside the unitShe never said if anything was taken or notAs a company we did everything to reassure Ms*** that her items were secured and that we did what we were suppose to by contacting the policeHaving said that it states clearly in the contract Ms*** signed, "The tenant hereby agrees to hold the Landlord harmless form all loss, cost, expense, liability, or other obligation, including but not limited to Landlord's reasonable attorney fees, arising out of injury to Tenant, his agents, employees, guests or invites, or to any property owned by Tenant in the space or upon the premises which shall be damaged by negligence of any person including Landlord, or by the elements, criminal acts of any third parties, or defects of any kind." As a company we went above and beyond to make sure that Ms*** felt her unit was secured even taking pictures because she was never in the area to check on her unit during the past yearsThe embezzlement charges have nothing to do with Ms*** and is a private matter between the company and the previous employees in which current tenants do not need to be made aware of
OFFER:
Ms*** has not said that anything was lost or stolen out of her unitTo my knowledge she has not filed a police report eitherAs the contract states and I reiterated above, Irongate is not responsible for "criminal acts by third parties." The contract is only terminated if the tenant or landlord gives days written notice OR in the event the space is destroyed by fire or other casualtyNeither apply to Ms***'s unit/contractShe said her mothers social security number was compromisedIf her mother is still living and this is of great concern to her we will pay for a full year of Lifelock for her motherOtherwise Ms*** should file a police report IF anything was stolen out of her unit
