Review: I am an 87 year old woman with extensive health issues. I live on the 4th floor and am unable to take stairs. The coop board was told it would take 4 weeks from April **, 2013 to repair elevator. As of today, June **, 2013, the elevator is still not running. It has been out of service for over 7 weeks!! To other tenants it is an inconvenience because they can use stairs. In my case it is becoming a health issue because I have not been able to leave my apartment for over 7 weeks and I am overdue for my much needed doctor's appointments .. Now I am told from the coop board representative that we are waiting for the inspector to come. He was supposed to come on Monday, June ** but did not come. There were excessive delays up until then; first the repairs were extremely slow with many delays and lastly waiting for the elevator panels was another 2 week delay because of a breakdown in coordination of panel input after repairing elevator by Imperial.Desired Settlement: Imperial Elevator Corp. should take blame instead of blaming everyone else. When my daughter, [redacted], spoke to [redacted] the owner of Imperial Elevator, last week, June **, 2013, he was unapologetic about delay and blamed others, admitting no responsibility on his part. Instead he was rudely unapologetic at the end of their conversation and unabashedly defensive about everything.

The elevator modernization has been completed and the elevator has been restored to service following a complete inspection by the NYC Department of Buildings. A modernization such as this does take an extensive amount of planning, time, work and custom manufactured materials to complete. Any estimations as to time of completion are simply estimates and nothing more. The completion of any job is greatly affected by delivery times from various vendors as well as the timeliness of the aesthetic selections being made by the purchasers. We do understand that an elevator modernization is extremely inconvenient to the people living in the building, particularly to those living on the upper floors. It is unfortunate that we are unable to provide a running elevator while at the same time replace key components of that same elevator. Every effort is made to complete projects which entail elevator down-time in an as expeditious a manner as possible. Thi s was explained to dozens of people who reside at this building. We apologize to [redacted] for any inconvenience she may have experienced and hope that she enjoys many future years of consistent elevator service with the new elevator equipment.

The business failed to address the health issues and hardship caused by their excessive delays. They mentioned "inconvenience" caused by these delays. However, inconvenience is for tenants who had to use stairs to accomplish their daily tasks. They were still able to keep their doctor appointments and all other appointments, etc. I on the other hand had to cancel all doctors appointments and became increasingly apprehensive about not being able to take these checkups and screenings.

Fortunately I did not suffer a medical emergency by not being able to keep these appointments. But the anxiety bought on by not being able to leave my home to go to these appointments was hard on myself and concerned family members.

As far as this business mentioning that estimations are "simply estimates and nothing more." An estimate should be based on a realistic number leaving some reasonable flexibility of a week or two beyond completion date. Turning a 4 week estimate into an 8 week estimate is unreasonable and unrealistic. Estimations made by any reliable company should be made based on their experience and expertise and are expected by purchaser to be reasonable and to take into consideration the various components involved in completing the job.
