I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution would be satisfactory to me.  I will wait until for the business to perform this action and, if it does, will consider this complaint resolved.

To Whom It May Concern,Import Genius is an online database that provides ocean freight bills of lading for business purposes. This is made possible through the Freedom of Information Act, Item 103.While we do not wish to publish information on individuals, sometimes a personal...

shipment is not marked as such and the information is published by mistake. When this happens we will gladly remove the webpage. That being said, the webpage publishing [redacted] information will be removed. The information has been submitted to our IT team and the process for removing the webpage will be completed by Sunday November 2, 2014. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience.

Our sincere apologies to Mr. [redacted]. We appreciate him bringing this to our attention and have removed the webpage as well as requested Google to...

remove the page from their search results.
The logistics company in charge of the shipment usually classifies personal shipments as such so they do not get republished. Unfortunately, this was not done and slipped through the cracks of US Custom's automated manifest system and we republished the information by mistake. We are not in business to republish personal information. Our goal is to help companies find reliable suppliers to work with and avoid fraudulent transactions when working in international trade.
If Mr. [redacted] has any further questions, we are more than happy to assist. Once again we apologize for any undue harm this might have caused.

Dear [redacted]
Thank you for making us aware of this situation. As it turns

out, the shipping manifest for all shipments entering the U.S. by ocean is

considered a matter of public record in this country. Your shipment was not

marked as a personal shipment thus the government released the...

data on a

private individual and we republished that data by mistake. I wish to

apologize sincerely for any undue harm this may have caused.I have tried contacting you numerous times but have not been

able to reach you so if you would be so kind to send me the links to the

webpage with your information listed I will have the information removed

immediately.

Regards,

Dear Mr. [redacted], We understand your concern and have processes in place to avoid posting personal information. Import Genius receives the data directly from US Customs. Ocean bills of lading are public record in the US however we do scrum the raw data before it is uploaded to our database to avoid posting information on personal shipments, searching for words such as “household,” “used,” “social,” anything that would denote a the shipment is from a person and not a company. When freight forwarding companies submit ocean bills of lading to Customs for clearance, they have the option to declare the shipment as a personal shipment. This is unfortunately overlooked many times. If certain key words are not listed in the product description on the bill it passes through our scrum which then in turn creates a sample bill of lading for that “company” on our website. If we are notified that a personal shipment is listed on our website we remove it immediately. Once that landing page is removed internally, our system will not republish information regarding future shipments for that “company.”

My entire desired outcome/settlement was not discussed nor addressed.  I asked the business specifically to "institute a policy that stops personal information from being on display..."  so no, they have not adequately addressed my complaint.  There is still PII displayed on their website, and it is just a matter of time before the cycle repeats and my PII is also on display again.

We sincerely apologize for the confusion however we did remove the original importer profile [redacted] made us aware about in October. Please note [redacted] is no longer an active webpage. We will remove the supplier profile [redacted] as well. We apologize for not removing this page in October per the original complaint however exact URL information was not provided. We understand personal security and anonymity online are of the utmost importance. We do not intend to publish personal information however occasionally bills of lading are not marked as personal shipments thus they are published by mistake. We appreciate you making us aware of the situation and will remove the webpage immediately. We have no affiliation with [redacted]/ therefore we recommend [redacted] contact that website to remove his information.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below. In a previous complaint, Import Genius specifically responded stating that the page containing my personal information (home address) will be taken down by November 2, 2014. They have not fulfilled their promise. The page containing my personal information still HAS NOT been taken down. This business is publishing my personal information (full name and home address) on their website. IT NEEDS TO BE REMOVED IMMEDIATELY!
Take down this page down and/or remove my personal name and home address from these pages IMMEDIATELY: [redacted]

Review: The owner of this website has a policy in place that has identified me with personally identifiable information, including physical location, affiliation with the Department of Defense, and my social security number. The owner of this website has a policy in place that does not allow me to reach anyone by number, email or messaging system. The owner of this website has a policy in place that does not require a review of imported information that is displayed.Desired Settlement: Institute a policy that stops personal information from being on display and remove my information from any device under your control that allows it to be displayed or available in any way-by whatever means necessary. Until that is accomplished, remove, replace or block my PII from being on display.

Our sincere apologies to Mr. [redacted]. We appreciate him bringing this to our attention and have removed the webpage as well as requested Google to remove the page from their search results.

The website www.importgenius.com published my personal information on their website. They basically get information through FOIA and just publish it.

My name, 2 addresses, DOB, passport number,... were published on the open web. I had to contact them three time to have my information removed and this is still not done at this point. My information have been on the open web for more than 2 weeks.

As a result, somebody tried to impersonate me at my bank. The people at importgenius were unimpressed and said that it should take them 5 to 7 additional days to have the info removed!
