To Whom It May Concern:I understand the customer’s frustration concerning his mower.  However, I do not accept responsibility for water getting into the fuel tank of his mower.  There are several reasons for this.  The customer brought the mower in with a defective fuel cap which...

allowed the rain water into the tank.  This is not our fault.Since we got to work on the customer’s mower within 18 hours of receiving it, it is highly likely that the water was already in the fuel when the mower was delivered to us.  But regardless, the customer failed to tell us about the defective fuel cap so we could not make allowances for it.  This is not our fault.Since the customer failed to answer his contact phone and also failed to return our message from 5/27/15, the mower needlessly sat in our lot 8 more days.  This is not our fault.I have attached a copy of our shop job showing the hand written notes concerning the problems we encountered and our attempts to contact the customer. Timeline of the events concerning this complaint Mr. D[redacted] brought his Snapper riding mower to our shop for repair on 5/26/15.  At that time, we were asked to replace the bent blade and check the spindle because this mower had hit a stump. On the morning of 5/27/15, we began working on the mower.  We replaced the bend blade and also checked the spindle.  Afterwards, we attempted to test run it.  The unit would not start. At that time, our mechanic found that there was water in the fuel tank and carburetor.  This was due to the fact that the lens portion of the fuel cap was missing, allowing water to enter into the fuel tank even though the cap was in place.  This was not our responsibility as this issue was not reported to us at the time of drop off.  Also, this could have anticipated looking at the mower as we took it in from the customer as you cannot tell the lens is missing unless you remove the gas cap.  Also, at this time our mechanic also noticed that the fuel solenoid was defective.  The threads of the solenoid were stripped and it was only being held in by Teflon tape around the threads. On 5/27/15, our mechanic reported the additional problems he had found to the shop manager.  [redacted], our shop manager then attempted to contact the customer using the contact number that was provided by the customer.  He did not answer so we left a message for a return call so that we could inform him that his mower also needed a new carburetor and solenoid due to the water we found during our repair. As of 6/3/15 we had not heard back from the customer.  Therefore, [redacted], the shop manager attempted to call him again using the contact number.  He had to leave a second message.  Finally, later on 6/3/15, we were contacted and told that it was okay for us to change to carburetor and do what was needed to get the mower running. On 6/4/15, our mechanic brought the mower back into the shop to continue repairs.  In the midst of the repair, we received another call from the customer demanding that we stop work immediately.  He specifically stated “Do not replace carb.”  On 6/4/15, we received a complaint initiated by the customer, asking for us to repair any parts that were damaged by rain water getting into his fuel tank.
