I purchased a 2007 Mini Cooper with 89K "As Is" from this used car dealer, which was my poor judgement in trusting the owner, who comes across as very upstanding and meticulous. His wife claimed he checked the cars out thoroughly and wouldn't sell a car until it was mechanically sound enough for his own family to drive. For the first 3 months we owned it, we brought it in many times to the local and manufacturer's repair shops, trying to pin down the source of about 10 drops of oil on the garage floor--just to make sure it wasn't anything to worry about. They replaced bypass valve, one turbo lines, ruled out oil filter housing gasket, and finally opened it up at great labor expense thinking it must be a head gasket, and discovered that all 4 cylinders were shot, interior hatch marks fully worn away to the point it had "engine blow by" and was blowing a ton of oil into the intake (full of oil). It needed whole new engine (and also a new clutch) which added up to more than $10,000 in repairs.
I find it not at all credible that since he has his own in-house repair shop and mechanic and since he had had to drive the car several times to the dealer repair facility (>120 miles there and back) for a warranty fuel pump replacement before he sold it to me, that he could POSSIBLY have been unaware it was burning such an extreme amount of oil--driving between 2 repair shops where the oil was topped off, we have documentation that it burned a quart in 100 miles!
