The student did have to miss 3 days of clinical due to the State being in the clinical facility. This is out of my control.  The students then return when the State leaves to complete the clinical cycle. It is my understanding that missing those 3 days put this student past a time frame that...

she needed to be done by. We do apologize for this. To show our good faith in this matter, we will send a check for $347. We want to maintain positive, professional relationships within the community.

This is my response to the student's complaint however I do not believe the student herself wrote the original written complaint to the Revdex.com.

Two students during week #1 of clinical took concerns to the clinical nurse that this student was making racial remarks about a student from Africa...

due to her language barrier and ability to understand our culture compared to hers. She was making racial remarks. One of the remarks was "she should  go back to her country". This is not acceptable. I spoke over the phone with the student that this is not fair to the student from Africa, and the complaining student was breaking clinical rules by being disruptive and drawing negative attention to herself. She said she would apologize and continue with clinical time. I reminded the student that I have a signed agreement from her that this very attitude could cause her to be dismissed from the training.

In week #2 of clinical the complaining student was overheard by two students referring to the same student from Africa as a "[redacted]". She was very verbal about her disregard to the student from Africa and made fun of her. Clearly, unable to keep any comments to herself of any bias she has for this student.

In response to this student not able to offer a professional attitude while in the clinical facility, and being disruptive I pulled her from her clinical. I reminded her that this training is that of the Indiana State Department of Health and being racial is not acceptable. I did not DISMISS her given her young age and not knowing the environment to which she was raised.

Instead, I told her I was transferring her to the evening class starting next month, in a different facility. She does not understand that I actually did her a favor in that if the clinical facility had removed her, I would have had to dismiss her from the training completely and without a refund.

If there are no more racial or other noted attitudes from this student, she will complete the program, graduate and continue in nursing.

I do have a signed written agreement from her with a list of all clinical training rules.

Thank you for the opportunity to respond.
