I am responding to the above file complaint regarding this customer who used my company's services In June of last year (2013)
This house already had a track record of staining on the ceilings and very bad ice damning due to the lack of
insulation which was an R-glass battIn a lot of areas there were no batts at all and it showed so on the thermal cameraWhen we started the job and pulled up the strips in the roof, the existing insulation was missing in a large area of the roof, and in the house the home owner had already styro foamed and redone his bathroom ceiling due to water coming into the cavity above the drywall
When I first went to this house and alter inspecting the area to be insulated, I explained to the customer that there was ways to insulate this vaulted roof to install the *** high density thermal and acoustical insulation full- fill system, or use the polyurethane foam system which would cost twice the price, as the entire roof would have to be pulled off to spray in the foam, the customer agreed on the *** full-fill system, and to do the *** system we remove just enough boards out of the roof to pull out the existing glass insulationThan we install a hose in the cavity and fill the cavity with the *** I then explained in detail to this customer, that his shingles were Old and would need to be replaced very soon to prevent further damage to the drywall of his home, and a full ice and water membrane needed to be installed under shingles because the roof is a very low slope', and from my years of experience with the hundreds of houses that I have insulated in the past with "low sloped' roofs, this was an area of concern
In the past couple of years we have had plus weather in December and January which is causing major melting of the snow on the roofsThe low slope roofs get hit the worst that is why they are usually a tar and gravel or torch on roof systemIf shingles are used on a roof the ice and water membrane needs to be appliedThis was explained to the customer
There was already major problems with this customers' roof, and I explained that the shingles would need to be replaced along with the ice and membrane added, to fix his already existing issues, and he told me the shingles will be fine and to just replace the old shingles I needed to remove to install he *** full-fill system once I was done
In my opinion this customer would NOT have had any further issues had he replaced the old shingles with new ones and used the ice and water membrane as I had recommended, this is where the staining is coming from on his ceilings, not from bad insulation, this is a proven system used since
My company has insulated hundreds of "low sloped" roofs in the past and have NOT had any further issues to dateThis is NOT an insulation problem, and if the customer wants me to inspect the area I insulated and install more *** insulation, l will do so at no charge to the customer; after he replaces his shingles which is the problem with this roof
