This is a response to a complaint issued by *** *** in regards to dental procedures performed on October 31,2014, by Dr*** *** Jr,
DDS Patient's complaint is that procedures that were performed and billed were excessive in nature and deceptive As a successful business we strive to inform all our patients, to their satisfaction, of the procedures that are recommended and scheduled This was no different for Mr*** My office manager will email my treatment notes that state he was informed about the abfraction (indention) fillings that were recommended at the time of his cleaning appointment in order to prevent root canals in the future Price for fillings are based on the materials used and the surface(s) of the tooth involved, not time Some fillings do take longer that others but that has no bearing on the cost of the procedure Mr*** asked me during the procedure what other fillings were being done I reminded him about the indentions (abfractions) that needed to be filled, and that we are only filling the teeth with the most severe indentions and that others will be needed in the future, but not at this time At this point, if he felt he was not properly informed he could have stopped me, which he did not He simply said “okay” and I proceeded This seems to be a case where the patient was simply confused about what was being done, but did not express any confusion He was informed by me, my hygienist, and my front office what was recommended My front office called to confirm the appointment (at which time we inform the patient as to what procedures are being done) and again by my assistant talks to the patient before the procedure is started to make sure the patient is made aware of pending procedures At no time, did he express great concern or confusion as to what was being done until it came time to pay for services rendered I have a very good reputation within both the dental community and my general community in regards to extremely high ethical standard and my office tends to exceed our patients expectations, and at no time is a patient ever deceived as to what treatment is be provided or recommended I hope this clears up this matter to your satisfaction
Sincerely,

I am rejecting this response because: First, I do not believe that his treatment notes would offer any credible proof of what did or did not take place.  They could be modified at any time to reflect his assertions.  Second, none of his personnel (office manager, receptionist, hygienist, assistant) nor Dr. [redacted] informed me of any changes to my appointment for checking a pocket and filling one small cavity on the lower right.  I was not at any point told that not fixing these abfractions would lead to possible future root canals. That would have raised an instant red flag with me, given how expensive they are and I would have remembered any conversation to that effect. When I said OK to proceed after he had already fixed some of these, I would never have thought that these would cost the same as a cavity repair since there is no deadening or drilling involved.  A pre-approval system including the dollars involved would have prevented this from happening.  Bottom line, I feel I was un-informed about what was to be done and the cost.
Regards,
