Looking at this Creta seatwall it seems obvious that this wall came down due to some kind of external factorYou can see that the base wall blocks are still perfectly levelWhen there is a failure with segmental retailing walls, it typically comes from either 1) granular base failure or 2) backfill/hydrostatic pressuresSince this wall is a free standing seatwall application, there is no backfill or hydrostatic pressure to push the wall overSo the only other thought for the failure would be failure of the granular base due to either frost heave or a large amount of settlement or sinkage However, based on this picture I do not believe there was a soil bearing capacity issue or a major frost heave situation, considering the bottom course of the looks to be perfectly in place and still levelIn my opinion, it seems that this wall was knocked over by some external factor and has nothing to do with the construction which you mentioned was completed four years ago*** *** *** *** * *** *** *** *** *** *** *** * *** *** *** ** *** *** *** ** *** *** * ***
Interlocking Pavers put up seat walls for us less than 4 years ago. This week one of the walls collapsed which lead us to discover that the other wall is now nothing but a loose stack of bricks. Bruce informed that this must somehow be our fault and invited us to sue him if we didn't like it. The brick manufacturer was contacted and shown photos - they stated that "the adhesive used appeared to have failed and that was the reason for the wall coming apart" and that Interlocking Pavers is NOT an authroized contractor.
