Mr***: After reviewing your complaint and discussing the facts with both our Service Writer and the Technician who performed the New York State Inspection on you're vehicle, I've come to the conclusion that the proper decision was made in failing your 173,mile, Chevrolet Pick
Up. The vehicle failed due to a power steering leak, which you confirmed in your complaint It is my understanding that the undercarriage of your vehicle was very wet from what appeared to be multiple fluid leaks and that it could not be determined where and what in addition to the power steering pump was actually leaking Our Service Writer (Shawn) suggested having the undercarriage degreased after replacing the power steering pump in order to confirm that this repair stopped the power steering leak. The second visit in which we attempted to re-inspect your vehicle after you replaced the power steering pump, our technician could not confirm the power steering leak was repaired due again to the condition of the undercarriage of the vehicle and multiple places that fluid was dripping from. As for the leaking steering stabilizer (steering shock damper), it states in Section 79.21, Page 5, Paragraph 2., of the Regulations of the Commissioner of Motor Vehicles, Motor Vehicle Inspection Book, that a vehicle is to be rejected if "the steering shock damper displays visible leakage or is missing or broken"Because a Licensed New York State Motor Vehicle Inspector performed a legal and proper New York State Inspection on this vehicle, I don't see any reason to reimburse you the State Mandated $New York State Motor Vehicle Inspection ChargeIn fact New York State has an $re-inspection fee that Shawn could have legally charged for the second inspection but chose not to This is a lose lose situation for both parties and I wish you the best of luck with your vehicle in the future.
