Job not completed & site was not cleaned. He hired a brick mason to complete the job and did not pay him & owes for the clean up he agreed to pay for.He was hired to replace a pool deck and driveway with a brick edge and to build a brick turn around pad for $28,000. A check for $14,000 was given to him on 3/3/15. He started work on 3/9/15 and was supposed to be finished in 2-3 weeks. He worked regularly for the first 3 weeks though he didn't come several days for rain and or other reasons. He asked for and received a second check for $7,000 on 3/23/15 and again $4,000 on 3/26/15 and $2,000 on 3/30/15. He stated this job cost him a lot more money than he thought and needed more money to pay his bills. I agreed to give him an additional $2000 for concrete and bricks and spent $1000 on supplies. His bid was not the lowest I received but I wanted to be fair to him. He delayed finishing the brick work because he said it was too expensive and he was looking for someone cheaper to do it. He did hire [redacted] on 4/6/15 to do the brick work. [redacted] ordered and paid for the pavers out of his own pocket as [redacted] said he would pay him back but did not. I ended up paying for the pavers as well so [redacted] would start working on the final part of this job. I also paid the last amount that I owed to [redacted] to the brick mason ($3000) and [redacted] was supposed to pay him the final $1200 when he finished. He has not paid [redacted] any money and will not answer his call. [redacted] was asked to clean up all the debris from the previous work and kept saying he would do it but never returned to the job site. When he finally did come back he said he didn't have time to clean up and would pay our landscaper $200 to do it. He has yet to return with this payment for doing his clean up for him. He also was supposed to reattach the hooks for the pool rope and never came back to do this. He put gutter drains under the concrete but then concreted over the ends so we couldn't locate them. He said he would locate and uncover them but never did. Our landscaper will now have to cut them off before the driveway and let them drain over it instead. He also cut through our cable line and electrical line to our post light but did not offer to pay for this. It costs us $300 to clean all the concrete debris from the pool that was dropped during demolition. I have spent so far $32,475 plus the cleanup charges and the brick mason is still owed $1200 from [redacted]. I have called him repeatedly and he will not return my calls. He has sent me several texts saying he will come by but never shows up. I have no complaints about the concrete work he did but am very frustrated at his unprofessional and rude behavior. I would like to be reimbursed for the money he owes me and the mason. We are considering legal action if he continues to refuse to settle this account.Desired SettlementI would like him to pay the brick mason $1200 for the work he contracted him to do. I would like him to pay me $200 for the clean up he didn't do in the yard and agreed to pay. I also feel at this point he should pay at least part of the expense to clean the pool, reattach the rope hooks and re-wire the post light in the front yard. We were trying to be nice and just pay for this our selves but after the way he has treated us, I want him to pay this expense as well since he caused these damages.
