Review: My son had been taking karate lessons for a couple of years at the location and was progressing well. After a few years we signed a three year contract that is due to expire in May of 2015. Last year in March of 2013, my son sustained a concussion at his local middle school and outside the studio. His treating physician directed him to not participate in contact sports for a period of six to eight weeks. We kept him out for this time and then attempted to reintroduce him to karate. This did not go so well. He complained of headaches and did not want to engage in sparring or any other contact type activities. We talked his main karate instructor who was encouraging, however my son still did not want to engage. After a couple of months of encouraging him and even seeking professional counseling, he still did not want to return to karate. His grades at school started to suffer as a result, so we backed off on the karate and his grades went back up to where thy had been previously. We again spoke to his karate instructor and asked if there was anyway to break our contract with the business. She told me we would have to contact the owner. My wife sent him two emails and we never heard back from him. We continued to pay on our contract even though our son was no longer attending the studio. In February of 2014, our credit card account was compromised and we had to get a new card. This led to us being contacted by the Educational Funding Company. They wanted our new information and payment. I explained the situation and asked them if there was any way to break our contract. They essentially told me the same and asked me to contact Owner of IIMA. I have been working with a contact at EFC and can provide contact information for them. I sent a letter this time as the owner of IIMA never contacted me after sending emails. Once again, I never heard from him. On March 15th, I sent a certified letter to The owner and as of this complaint, have still not heard from him. EFC called again and I explained the situation to them. They told me they had been in contact with the studio and if I sent a letter to EFC signed by a doctor stating my son could not participate in contact sports, then they would end the contract and maybe charge some type of penalty fee. My son's karate studio had told me this same thing last year. I took my son to his pediatrician not knowing if this would occur, but his doctor explained due to the type of injury my son sustained at an early age, he should not participate in any contact sports. His doctor provided a letter stating this. I sent this letter to EFC and they told me I would have to contact the studio. Since then, I researched the internet and discovered through the Revdex.com and other sites like Yelp, both of these businesses do not have the best business practices or good customer service. I wish I would have researched it earlier. I would request your assistance in this matter and would like to end my contract with this studio and the EFC even if I had to pay a reasonable penalty fee. Also I would need to have something in writing ending the contract as I seriously doubt the integrity of IIMA and the EFC.Desired Settlement: End my contract with the business
