Review: We purchased a vehicle (2001 Pontiac Sunfire) for $2600 from International Motorcars of Pittsburgh on 11.23.2013, in the early fall of 2014 we experienced problems with the steering, then shortly after, the brakes went out. We attempted to repair the brakes, but they still did not function, so the vehicle was taken to a shop for inspection. It was found that the brake lines were completely rusted through and would need replaced, it was also found that the steering cradle on the car was rusted through and would need replaced, i.e. part of the frame. There were also several spots on the frame that were rusted enough to not pass inspection. Our mechanic advised us that it was not repairable and should be junked as putting anymore money into the vehicle would be a waste. We advised the dealership what was going on with the vehicle and he (the owner) wanted it taken to his own mechanic for inspection. His mechanic quoted $640 to repair all of the issues and insisted it would pass inspection, and the dealership was not willing to aid in any of the repair costs. We were told, and it was indicated on the sales receipt, that the car was in 'good' condition when we purchased it. However, at the time of the purchase (8 months prior to problems arising with the vehicle) these rust issues, especially with the frame, had to be very far advanced and we were not made aware of the rust damage on the frame of the car. It is our contention that the dealership was well aware of the severe rust damage to the frame when it had the vehicle listed for sale on its property, and failed to make us aware of this issue. Our mechanic said that the frame was compromised and not repairable, so we had use of the car for only 10 months after the purchase.Desired Settlement: I would be very wary of purchasing any vehicle from this business unless you take it to your own mechanic first for a thorough inspection. The owner refused to aid in any of the repair costs knowing full well that he sold us a car with severe rust issues. Since the car cannot be inspected and I cannot morally have the car repaired and sell to another person knowing the safety issues on the car, we would like a fair market refund for the vehicle.
