Intertown Realty Company Reviews (1)

Review: On January 28th 2012, my car was illegally towed by [redacted] Towing Company my permitted parking space at my apartment complex in Hartford that Intertown Realty manages. My parking pass feel from rearview mirror on to dash and was still in plain sight but towing company told me that I had no sticker. Since we had two cars in the apartment we shared a paper pass that Intertown gave us.I called Intertowns office at least once a day for the next week, trying to get them to reimburse my money or at least offer to pay half of it. The office workers exhibited a demeaning tone and would not have the property manager call me, as requested. When my rent was due, I submitted a letter once again explaining the situation and reducing my rent of $113, for cost of the unlawful tow. I also included the CT statutes governing tows and told them if this was not a suitable way to handle the situation, and for them to contact me. I have heard nothing from Intertown to this day (4/17/2013). I did, however, hear from my former roommate that they are still looking for the money. This is a very poor way of handling a situation and shows no communication skills at all. They have two phone numbers on file to reach me as well as an e-mail address, and yet I still have heard nothing from them. I had lived at that apartment complex since 4/1/2012 and was tenant in good standing. I moved out last month and I was told the new tenant could pay me the security deposit and it "was easier" for them this way. I think they are highly unprofessional and do not understand the customer service side of their business

I would like the collection of the $113 to be dropped and this to be put in writing. This was an unlawful tow and they need to take responsibility for this action.Intertown Realty632 Prospect AveHartford, CT XXXXXThank you,[redacted]

The complainant's car was towed by the tow company because her parking tag was not hung from the rear view mirror and was not visible to the tow driver. All vehicles in our lots must have a parking permit visible so the tow drivers can identify whom the permitted tenants/vehicles are. We have made numerous efforts to talk to the complainant even as recently as Friday April 19th 2013 when a voice mail was left to the complainant by our property manager. To date, she has never returned the call. Additionally the day the car was towed, we informed the complainant that she should not deduct any portion of the towing fee from her rent as that money is due to the tow company and has nothing to do with her rental payment. Despite our request, she did so anyway. We are very sorry that she feels this is unfair, however, we have made it very clear both verbally and in writing as well as on her signed lease that parking permits need to be displayed in order to avoid vehicle from being towed.

To address the response I received:

The parking pass was still visible as I previously stated in my original complaint. It must have fallen from the mirror but still in plain sight on the dash. When the tow driver and I spoke he originally said "I did not see a sticker" when I told him I had a pass, not a sticker, his response then turned into "I did not see a pass." I am very frustrated with the response of "Additionally the day the car was towed, we informed the complainant that she should not deduct any portion of the towing fee from her rent as that money is due to the tow company and has nothing to do with her rental payment". This is simply not true. My car was towed late Monday night and did not get a hold of the office until late Tuesday morning. I called their office multiple times that week trying to speak with the property manager Steve, but only spoke to [redacted] in the office. I was also never told that I was not to deduct this from my next month's rent. I had my parking permit in plain sight and should have never been towed in the first place. I sent a letter along with my rent check that said if this was not an ideal settlement to let me know. I never heard from anyone at the office and only found out through my past roommate after I already moved out. I did call them on April 19th at 3pm and finally received a call back from Steve more two hours later at 5:30pm. His voicemail to me made it clear he was not aware of this situation at all. I am done trying to contact them and playing phone tag.

In efforts to avoid this situation in the future, I think that Intertown should provide the tow company with the vehicles plate numbers. When I moved in I gave Intertown all of my vehicle information to receive the pass but this was never given to the tow company. There are only 8 spots in the lot so this could easily be cross checked.

All I am asking is that they drop the $113 charge from my account and to be done with this situation, seeing as that I have moved out more than a month ago.

Thank you.
