We are truly very sorry to hear about your fenceWe take these reports very seriously and will always fix any damage that we have causedI visited the property in north city on 8/14/for approximately minutes to examine the issueI was able to locate the damage based on pictures that were sent and the damage is one small section of chain link fence toward the left, backside of the propertyThe fence borders a vacant lot owned by the northside regeneration projectI also noticed several other places on all sides where the fence was bent, broken or damaged previously with one section having existing damage that is very similar to what was reported to usWe take before and after pictures each time we mow a property so I was able use these as reference points.? As stated, the reported damage looks to have occurred from outside the fenceThe fence is mangled at, or just above, ground level for several feet acrossThe top post cap on one post next to the damage is also broken and appears to be from some time ago given the dirt and cobwebs inside the top of the post from exposure to weatherThe fence itself was not anchored near ground level like the other postsI recorded the impact point where the damage occurredThe fence itself is a lightweight residential fence in average condition, with various places on all sides where there is damageIn addition, several of the posts throughout the fence are not plumb/vertical and were either installed this way or were damaged some time ago.? We used a large "ride on lawn mower" outside of the fenceThe mower moved parallel to the fence with the damageThe mower is 72" wide and 1,lbsVisiting the property, recording aspects of the damage, and reviewing all the pictures, here is what I found:(1)For the mower to damage this particular fence, it would need to hit the fence with the front end and would need to be mostly perpendicular to the fenceThe reason is because the side of the mower is too tall relative to the impact point to cause the damage near the ground if driving parallel to the fence and, in addition, the fence was clearly pushed inward which would require a front impactLooking at pictures sent to us, as well as our own pictures, we can see the mow lines (a.k.a"striping") running parallel to the fenceThe cutting lines indicate that at no point did the mower turn at all until reaching the end of the fenceGiven this information, I am unable to see how this mower would have impacted the fence in a way to cause this damage.(2)With a width of 72" and a weight of approximately 1,lbs (including the worker), if this mower would have hit this fence then it would have done significantly more damageIt would have pushed or bent the posts forward toward the yard and there would have been very significant bowing of the fence inwardThis did not occur.(4)There is existing damage to this fence in multiple places from some time ago, including damage to the top of the post near the damage that was reported to usGiven these facts, it suggests that this fence has been damaged on other occasions and it is impossible to rule out that the damage reported to us might have already existed but was not noticed by the customerOur worker who trimmed inside the fence area indicated he had noticed this damage and lifted the fence up a bit to trim underneathIn the picture provided to us, you can see that the grass has been trimmed rather than mowed immediately under the location of the damageNormally it wouldn't be possible to lift the fence like this but it is not properly anchored at the bottom at this location probably due to whatever hit the fence initially.Given the information we have, I can recreate no scenario where a 1,pound mower would have caused this small amount of damageWhile I am only speculating, it looks to me like the damage was caused awhile ago and was concealed relatively well by the grass underneathHowever, when our worker lifted the bottom of the fence a little bit so that he could trim underneath, it caused the damage to be noticeable since the fence could no longer be concealed in the grassThis is consistent with the fact that, if you look at other areas of the fence, the bottom is concealed well because the grass underneath it and in the chain link is not trimmedSee the attached picture for showing the damage and the surrounding fence.I am in no way implying that we are purposely being blamed for something the customer knew already existedIt's quite possible that the damage wasn't nearly as visible when grass was growing in and around the bottom of the fenceOnce we trimmed the area, the damage was much more visibleBut whatever caused this damage was definitely smaller than a large zeroturn mower and would have to be larger than a push mower.? While I cannot envision any scenario where we damaged this fence, as a goodwill gesture I will waive your outstanding balance of $In addition, I am happy to answer any questions you might have, provide any additional information, or meet you at your convenienceI sent you my contact info (***) via email on 8/11/and you may call or text my cell phone at any time.?
