Mr [redacted]’s truck was sent to our shop to be diagnosed after leaving the shop in HaydenIdaho in that aforementioned letter from Mr [redacted]. down was done. Upon tearing down the engine and having theblock tested by an outside machine shop, the conclusion was made that there was a pin hole ina cylinder wall.
The question was then posed of how to proceed. After which Mr [redacted] informed me thathe didn’t have the money to build a new engine at that point. And a firm answer wasn’t given tostart work on the vehicle. We cleaned up the parts that were taken off of the vehicle and storedthem. The truck was then parked outside the shop until Mr [redacted] could get ready for the build.Parts were purchased for the build but no money was offered to be sent. Around the middle ofDecember after Mr [redacted] tried to get [redacted] to pay for the money we were told that acheck was on the way to the shop. This was to help with the build. Mr [redacted] had said in e-mailit was getting sent. However we never saw any money to get the build started. Mr [redacted] wasgiven in estimate, which wasn’t implied was a final bill. The estimate was assuming that someparts would be salvageable out of the engine. upon inspection it was deemed they were not.
After the truck was brought to our shop was the mention changing turbos. This wasrecommended not to be used in this application as it was a turbo that wasn’t built for theapplication. There were as many steps taken with parts to help make the turbo last. However Mr[redacted] wanted it installed. The failure occurred when Mr [redacted] had the vehicle at a repair shopand it was on a chassis dynamometer. Which is to test the power of a vehicle. This is used forrace applications. Failure from abuse isn’t covered under any manufacturers warranty.
New glow plugs were installed into the engine. The downpipe was difficult to connect tothe existing exhaust system which was done incorrectly. But Mr. [redacted] didn’t have the budgetto install a new exhaust system so it could be made to work. The exhaust wrap was clampedon. There isn’t one clamp only to use to complete that task. The coating on the pipes wasprotected as much as possible. The factory pipes have hoses or wires that come in to contactwith them. It isn't uncommon to have a few rub marks.
Mr [redacted] picked his truck up from our shop around 2 months after he told us he wouldhave the money to pay for the truck when complete. After many talks on the phone and Mr[redacted] trying to get a better deal a number was agreed upon. Then is when a date for the truckto be picked up was tentatively set. I had informed Mr [redacted] that we would like to put a fewhundred miles on the truck to make sure all was well before he left our shop with it. However hehad purchased a ticket and had a shuttle deliver him to the shop. We hadn’t yet had time to testthe truck for the mentioned milage. Had we been able to test drive the vehicle we would havefound that the injector cup wasn’t sealed and could have fixed it before the vehicle left the shop.This is what caused the fuel and [redacted] to mix. Mr [redacted] informed me of the issue as he wasdriving across the country. I offered to find a shop for him to go to. However he stated he didn’twant to stop. After continuing to drive for thousands of miles it caused the water pump to havepre mature failure. I had made no attempts to avoid helping Mr [redacted] out. I had parts sent tothe shop he chose to take his truck to in an effort to help him out. Even though it clearly states inthe warranty that work must be done at our shop.
The invoice for the vehicle still has a balance of $2000.00 owed. Mr [redacted] assured usthat the money would be paid upon pick up of the vehicle. However he was at the shop with no ride home the distance he had traveled and we allowed him to take his vehicle. We wereassured that the balance would be taken care of. There was no attempt at the vehicle beingbrought back to Irate Diesel’s shop so that the repair could be made. I had offered to repair theinjector cup and check over the truck.
The truck may have been washed had we had the time to go over the vehicle before Mr[redacted] showed up to pick up the truck on a rushed time line. However we also aren’tresponsible for washing vehicles. It would have been a courtesy had the time been allowed.We (Irate Diesel) take pride in our work. However when a customer is demanding avehicle on a short timeline after months have gone by of non payment and not having a definiteanswer on payment it is hard to start and complete work. Once a build of this size starts there istypically a deposit made. Which we allowed Mr [redacted] to forego due to the extenuatingcircumstances. But once told that all would be settled before leaving the shop and having thefinal bill before arriving to pick up the vehicle and failing to do so those words were broken.There is still an outstanding balance on the vehicle. And no warranty work was ever denied tobe completed on the vehicle. Mr [redacted] chose not to come back to the shop.
We also have several emails of conversations. However no illegal voice recordings weretaken of Mr [redacted], So we cant provide those as he can. We can forward over the email chain ifneeded as well as final invoices if needed. Irate Diesel feels that all attempts to remedy thesituation were made. We helped Mr [redacted] get parts when he took it to an outside shop forconvenience. Even though he still owed money and it was clearly stated in the warranty termsthat Irate Diesel didn’t have to.
