Iron Cycle & C0 Reviews (1)

Review: Iron cycles fixed a starter clutch on my motorcycle on [redacted] 2014 for $640. I was driving through the area as an active duty service member, visiting family along a military-directed move. Seven days later, I arrived in Florida at my new duty station and the starter clutch of my motorcycle was once again unserviceable. Unable to return to Iron Cycles in NJ, I brought it to a local motorcycle repair shop and had the starter clutch replaced again for $373. I called Iron Cycles on 10 July 2014 to explain what had happened, and asked if it was possible to get a partial refund due to my military circumstances.[redacted], the manager, suggested I mail the faulty starter clutch to him and he would see what he could do. I mailed the starter clutch on 14 July 2014, with an arrival at Iron Cycles on 16 July 2014. Over the next 2.5 weeks, I called Iron Cycles to see if a resolution could be found - and was given various excuses ([redacted] was out of the shop, they were backed up on paperwork, etc.), and always told to call back in a few days. On 01 August 2014, I called again and [redacted] told me he still hadn't gotten to my issue. I asked when he would get to it, as it had been 22 days since my initial request. [redacted] then said I should have brought the bike to his shop for repairs, to which I reminded him (again) that I was active duty military and unable to do that from Florida. I suggested that at a minimum, I thought he could refund me the $125 for the starter clutch that I paid for, his shop installed, and he told me to mail back to him (which I did on 14 July 2014). He got irritated, and asked "why the (expletive) should I refund you for a part that was bad from the manufacturer?" We then got into a heated conversation over the phone, to which he hung up.Desired Settlement: At a minimum, I am requesting that Iron Cycles refund me $125, which was the cost of the Starter Clutch that I purchased from them as listed on the receipt from Iron Cycles. [redacted] asked me to mail them the starter clutch, which I paid an additional $5.80 to do. Iron Cycles has my faulty Starter Clutch (which I paid $125 for) at this time, and has not refunded me for the faulty item.

Business Response to a Complaint

Response:

[redacted] came into the shop complaining of a starting issue on his Ironhorse. We diagnosed the problem and found the starter had a bad Starter Clutch. The price to replace it was $390.99, that included parts and labor. We told him what we found and what the cost would be and he said go ahead and repair it. He also wanted the bike serviced while it was in the shop. [redacted] picked the bike up a few days later and the cost for the starter repair and the service came to $579.94 plus tax, $40.59, Total $620.53. Approx 2 weeks later [redacted] had called and said the new Starter Clutch had failed and he had it repaired by a shop in Florida as that's where he had been transferred to. Normally, as per state law in N.J., he would have to bring the bike back to us for any type of warranty. I explained this to him but also told him to send me the old parts and I would see what I can do. A few days later I received the package from him but did not have time to go through it. When[redacted] called I told him to give me a few days as my full time tech was on 2 weeks vaca and things were very busy. When he called back a few days later I told him I didn't have much time to look through everything but if the Starter clutch was bad, it would have to go back to the manufacturer for warranty. [redacted] started to get up-set and said all he wanted was the money back for the part which at that time I told him I would not do because the part is warrantied from the manufacturer, Not me ! He then threatened to turn me over to his friend at the [redacted] so he can write an article about how I treat Military people. I then told him he's getting nothing and hung up on him. Its very obvious to me that [redacted] is trying to make it seem as though we grossly over charged and mislead him by NOT disclosing all the facts. The repair for the starter clutch was $390.00 compaired to the Florida shop at $373.00. [redacted] forgot to mention the $188.00 full service. Also, we do not warranty parts that are covered by a manufacturer warranty. They need to be returned to the manufacturer for inspection. [redacted] also had the bike repaired without calling us first to see if something could be done. I was willing at first to help him out, only because of his military status, being most of my family have served at one time or another, BUT, it seems because I didn't respond fast enough and to his liking, he decided to get irate and threatening and that is something I will NOT tolerate.
