October 31, 2014 Re: Case # 52025214: Mrs. [redacted] C. [redacted] To Whom It May Concern: I am sorry to hear that the expectations of Mr. and Mrs. [redacted] were not met with regards to the remodeling their home. Thank you...

for the opportunity to respond to the complaint filed by Mrs. [redacted] C. [redacted] concerning the remodeling of their home at 1015 Aoloa Place, Apartment 357, Kailua, HI 96734. Please note that the majority of the conversations prior to, during, and after the remodeling of their home was with Mr. [redacted], the spouse of the complainant. He did not express to me any disapproval of the work completed. I attempted, to the best of my ability to satisfy the requests of Mr. and Mrs. [redacted] to level the floor as desired. Prior to performing any of the remodeling services, I would express my recommendations, and discuss any possible problems which may be anticipated. I had explained to them that because the floor already had an existing slope, I suggested to make the floor a split level. The customer preferred not to follow my proposal. I tried my best to level the pre-remodel slope. Also, I explained to them that with the flooring type that they chose to install, there would be imperfections that will be noticed. Mr. [redacted] understood. Upon completion of the project, Mr. [redacted] expressed his satisfaction with the work. Mrs. [redacted] also found fault on one of the stone tiles used for flooring. I changed the chipped tile and apparently she was still dissatisfied. It should be noted that the floor is stone. Stone floors will have imperfections as a character of the stone. I also advised Mr. [redacted] of the nature of stone. Again, he understood and did not show any displeasure. Regarding her complaint about the invoices. An invoice for the kitchen remodeling was made and given. Concerning the living room remodel, against my better judgment, Mr. [redacted] had asked me not to invoice the work. I usually always give an invoice for my work, but being that Mr. [redacted] has had a is a long standing association, I honored his request. Concerning to the amount of $11,460 that Mrs. [redacted] is requesting, most of that amount was used to pay for materials that are installed in their house. A very minimal fee was charged for labor. I only charged a very nominal amount to Mr. [redacted] because of our relationship for many years. The work that I performed was done to the best of my ability, particularly with the existing sloped foundation and flooring of their home. I tried my best to satisfy their requests regarding the remodeling of their home. I am sorry for any trouble or convenience that was caused due any misunderstandings. I am willing to work with Mr. and Mrs. [redacted] to find a fair resolution for this subject. I am hoping for your kind consideration, assistance and understanding on this situation. Sincerely, [redacted] President Island Home Remodeling, LLC

Complaint: 10395512
I am rejecting this response because:
·
The tiles placed in the kitchen were not the
ones that were agreed upon prior to installation.
·
5 tiles were stained with spilt glue.
·
First tile that cracked was patched poorly
instead of being replaced.
·
15 tiles cracked or chipped.
·
A couple tiles not level with the others.
·
A nail left sticking out of a wood panel cut
Mrs. [redacted]’s foot.
·
Excess paint from the walls got on the granite
counter tops.
·
Ceiling was not made completely smooth after
popcorn was removed.
·
Wall behind the refrigerator was not completely
painted.
·
Not all baseboards were replaced with new
baseboards to match cabinets and theme.
·
Hinges on various cabinet doors were not mounted
properly.
·
Mr. [redacted] charged $800 for 12 cases
of tile (sku 419-551, 18X18) that were priced at $22.41 per case, totaling
$268.92 at Home Depot.
·
Mr. [redacted] furnished receipts that show he made
purchases of water, a cooler and some tools for himself, all of which was not
agreed upon.

Nearly every aspect of the remodel has
imperfections.  Multiple discussions were
held with Mr. [redacted] and in every discussion, he promised to come and fix it all
to perfection.  He never once came back
or sent anyone to fix anything.  I later
found out through the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs that Mario
[redacted] of Island Home Remodeling, LLC is not licensed to do any of the work he
performed.  He deceived my husband,
[redacted] and I from the beginning to the end.  However, he states that he is willing to work
with us to find a fair resolution.  So,
in the good nature of negotiations, I am willing to take the requested amount
of $11,460.00 and round that down to an even $10,000.00.  We paid Mr. [redacted] $14,659.68 total for the
kitchen remodeling.  Considering the fact
that Mr. [redacted] was given ample amount of time and opportunities to fix his
mistakes, and now the fact that he is not even legally allowed to perform this
type of work due to not being licensed, I feel this is more than fair.
Sincerely,
[redacted]
