The inferior workmanship of the installation of the entire pool, piping and heater especially regarding the Marcite finish of the pool.
Since day one the Marcite finish of the pool has been a problem. It was installed so carelessly that it had to be redone within the first year of completion. It was then redone once more only to have an additional problem with the finish and redone again but, we have now learned that the heater was installed without a bypass and therefore every time they have redone the finish, it didn't matter because the acid used in the "Hot Start" damaged the heater coils and it will continue to stain and etch the pool finish until the heater is repaired or replaced and a bypass is installed. Since Island Way will not return our calls and/or emails, we have contacted other pool installers and repairmen to help us with the damage that has been done. Attached is a letter from *** indicating what I have stated. Two other pool companies told us the same thing but they are afraid to say anything against Florida Pool Finishers.

Desired Outcome

We would like to have the by pass installed and the pool heater replaced and then have the finish of the pool redone, hopefully for the final time.

Pool Surfacing And Air In Lines
Return ports continually discharge air bubbles. The pool gunite surfacing job is uneven and defected. Didn't notice the uneven surface and pool quality of the surface until a "worker" of Island Way Pavers and Pools pointes it out but really didn't notice until the water was in and lights where on. The surface looks so bad and the seating bench looks like someone kicked a dent into it. It's so noticeably that everyone who sees it asks what happen and I get embarrassed. I reached out but Island Way Pavers and Pools never got back to me. It was just a bad recommendation!

Desired Outcome

Repair or reimbursement

This reply was taken verbally by Revdex.com:

The product used is a man made product and it is common to have a blemish. The finish is not defective and the pool is not loosing prime. The pool is functioning properly.

This is not a blemish you can see clearly in the photos this was applied wrong and uneven. One of the associates of Island Way Pavers and Pools mentioned that it was a bad job and he was clearly embarrassed. The return ports have bubbles since day one which means there is air in the lines which has nothing to do with the finish but would be a plumbing issue.

Very easy to deal with! Great pricing! Job dates were on time. Easy customer care! Highly recommend!

Great company with fantastic employees!!

botched pool renovation that needed to be redone by another pool company due to faulty work and installation. This has gone on since 2017.
Our family contracted with Island Way Pavers & Pools LLC in April 2017 to remodel our existing pool and surrounding deck. The contract included: removing the existing pool coating and replacing with a pebble coating, replace the jets, skimmer and drain, update and expand the pool deck with travertine pavers, remove the screened birdcage, install gutters to replace from the cage, and replace the pool light. In the fall of 2017 we noticed the pool was losing water and it took three months for Island Way to come out and diagnose/repair the leak around the skimmer. In late summer 2018 the pool was leaking again and Island Way came out to diagnose. It was discovered there was a crack by the skimmer in the pool that was releasing water into the ground. Island Way engaged the coating company to come out and 'patch' the crack with a sealant and to cover with pebble coating. Not only did this not fix the crack or leak, the patch job was horrendous and was attempted several times with no success. The pebble patch was mixed in with putty, so the Island Way owner decided to add acid to the pool to try and blend the new coating with the existing. The acid wash eroded the temporary putty used to install the skimmer, the jets and the main drain at the bottom of the pool. We do not consider temporary putty a repair as contractually agreed to in April 2017. After 48 hours, all the water had drained from the pool into the ground because there was no sealant on the jets, drain, or skimmer. Island Way wanted to patch yet again and that is when we decided to engage a new pool company to repair the botched work done. The new pool company immediately did an emergency visit to seal the leaks and had to replace the jets, main drain and had to replace the entire pebble coating because these items were not installed properly by Island Way. Not only did this cost us 50% more than the original contract to have it done properly, we have spent months dealing with Island Way to resolve with no avail, and the new company has spent over a month and a half correctly remodeling the pool as it should have been done in the first place. We suffered great stress and loss of use of our pool and backyard, not to mention the amount of water we've had to put into the pool on multiple occasions due to leaks and the acid wash - not to mention filling it again this weekend once the remodel is complete. We have numerous pictures, emails, and texts to support our claim and concerns. Island Way agreed to reimburse us for the gutters they never installed as contractually written - we had to find a company to install them - and even toward the end of dealing with them no monetary reimbursement took place. We hear that other clients of Island Way are experiencing similar issues with their remodels.

Desired Outcome

The fair solution would include Island Way refunding the money we spent on work and items that were done incorrectly based on the original contract, or at least covering the costs from the new company that had to repair the items (to include the coating) in order for us to have a functioning pool again. We originally contemplated legal action against the company, however, we decided to file complaints with the county, state and Revdex.com because we would never want another family to go through the expense, stress, and worry that we suffered from this project.

This customers pool was built in 1974 per PCPAO.org and is 46 years old. They hired our company to do new tile, paver deck and pool finish which is a light remodel. We did no structural work on this property. The existing pool shell was installed in the 70s and was subject to the building codes of that time. On our new pools our shells are 8-10" thick. On a pool from the 70s we find pool walls that are as small as 4" thick.About 6-8 months after completing the remodel a crack in their original pool shell appeared through the new finish. This included the timerframe of hurricane Irma which was a 100 year storm. When we remodel the pool we don't inherit liability pertaining to the almost 50 year old pool shell. We tried to explain this to the customer and repair the crack at our cost even though we should not be responsible for this cost. The customer was not happy with the look of the repair and demanded to have the entire pool refinished by another contractor who was happy to corroborate their story that we somehow caused this crack to this ancient pool with small chipping hammers used to install a new skimmer. They demanded we pay them the full retail cost of another company refinishing their pool and insulted the owner over the phone claiming he was a scam artist. We went above and beyond and tried to repair this pool even though it was not our legal or ethical requirement and the customer demanded we write them a check for another company to remodel the pool at a extortionary rate. At that point they wouldn't even let us repair the pool ourselves and were shouting over the phone at our owner and denied all of our offers to provide free material or to help oversee the repair. We stand behind all of our work and build beautiful pools that we do not have issues with for the last 12 years in this area. This customer continues to slander us even though it is very cut and dry that we did not construct their pool shell or cause the crack that happened after 46 years of use and countless hurricanes and water table fluctuations. If we were responsible for the structural pool shell cracking we would have redone the pool. Even when we install staples to cracked pools we do not offer a warranty because the structure has already been compromised. We tried to come to terms with this customer but she was too upset and told us our only option was to pay the other company. This is not acceptable especially since she had them do more work to the drains and plumbing which we were not ever contracted to do in the first place. I have attached our response from her other complaint as well.

The absolute worst BS pool company in Pinellas County. Don't stand behind their product or craftsmanship. Hired another pool company to fix all issues after fighting with them for over a year to get everything resolved. Left me with an empty pool.

Great company to work with. Lacne and his team worked hard to design a pool and spa of our dreams. It came together on time and exactly how it was described. Fantastic experience and wonderful evenings of fun for years to come. Thanks Lance and team!!!

Deck was extended using pavers and was completed incorrectly. It has sunk 3-4 inches. Its becoming unsafe to walk on it. Work is less than a year.
Island way was hired to refinish pool and lay travertine tiles and extend the deck. The deck is now sinking because no concrete was put down to support the extension and its not even a year old yet!! We paid over $60k to refinish the pool and have the tiles laid. The work was completed last November and we began contacting Island Way in June to ask them to repair.

Desired Outcome

I think that others should be warned that this company doesn't stand behind their work and doesn't return calls. They've told my husband for months that we would be put on the schedule for repair and they acknowledged this should not be happening. They acknowledged the work was guaranteed for a year and that they would be able to repair it.

Island Way Pavers & Pools Response

This has now been resolved. Sorry it took so long, and as you see it was a minor covered repair, growing pains had it slipping through the cracks at the office. Glad we were able to get it taken care of for you and appreciate the business !

Customer Response

(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)Yes, they sent a wonderful crew out that repaired the deck within hours.
