Islander Roofing LLC Reviews (6)

Islander Roofing did not remove any "flap" nor did Islander Roofing "stuff" any mesh material into the pipe. We were hired to replace the roof along with "vent" covers. Debris did in fact fall into the "pipe" that extends to the roof line. We simply removed the new AF-50 vent and vacuumed the fallen... piece out and simply reinstalled the AF-50 vent. Fan vents simply "sit" on top of pipe and are nailed in place. If there were such a thing as a "flap over pipe" debris would have not fallen in to begin with. I have attached a picture to reference the scope of work when installing a vent.

Complaint: ***I am rejecting this response because:
I hired *** inspection company to do a full inspection on my buildings at *** *** ***, * Shelton, WA In the inspection report, it clearly stated "The PVC roof cover material for BOTH flat roof systems appears to need immediate attentionThe inspection revealed multiple active roof leaks and other sub-standard conditions for both flat roof systems. The inspector found and verified active roof leaks in main restaurant buildingThe inspector found multiple sub-standard and moisture prone conditions within main building flat roofing system - faulty slope with lack of proper drainage (SW corner), sub-standard flashing detail (at multiple penetrations and along perimeter), lifting seams, and sections of conduit resting on roof surface." I have also attached the full report along with this email for your referenceYou may find more detailed information and photos regarding the roof leakage problems.
Islander roofing not only failed to fix the roof leaks (the roof still leaks till today), but also is trying to shift the responsibilities to drainage systemI'm hoping Islander Roofing could start taking responsibilities of their sub-standard work and resolve the problems as soon as possible.
Sincerely,*** (***) ***

This is a complaint that was started by *** *** earlier this year to the Revdex.comThe case was then droppedEarlier this year *** called us several times throughout the summer for a continued leakAfter many man hours we ended up finding the leak that turned out to be a leaking pipe (plumbing
issue) under roof topWe continually told *** that it could not be a roofing issue because as she stated "it leaks worst when no rain)Most issues had stopped at that pointWe obtained a permit for the roof through the city of SheltonThis roof was NOT torn off, she simply wanted an overlayThe City of Shelton had us "core" a piece of roofing out to evaluatedwe did soIt was approved for second layerThe roof upon completion was inspected and passedI have also attached a copy from the PVC representative whom was out for an inspection that we Islander Roofing requestedHe found the roof to be single ply application.
*** hired *** inspections to inspectWe received inspection report last week and this past Monday 12/14/went to take a look at some of his findingsWe did touch up on a few of his recommendationsHowever the majority of the leak problems are coming from the drainage system as we have said all along and he also agrees with in his reportWe were not paid to install new pipes and drainage system, it is not on the contract, and it is not within our scope of workShe needs a plumber for thisHe aslo address's a crack in the wall, we have also pointed this out to ***'s husband ***, this is siding on the wall that again is not in our scope of work.
It appears that possibly when *** hired us to re-roof her building she must have had many leaks as pointed out by inspector in report referring to "old mold" that he discoveredIt would seem that the siding, and drainage system are not adequateAfter many attempts near a drain to find leak, (opening up our PVC roof over and over) we finally pulled the drain up and found it to be cracked*** her husband simply put a plug over it!
When we were there on Monday *** had left before we finished and we needed power from adjacent building but were unable to access itWhen the next dry day comes we would like to go and complete the rest of our inspection regarding the *** report

Complaint: ***I am rejecting this response because:
The gentleman who roofed my house came in and observed the draft coming through my exhaust vent located above my cooking surface. He agreed it was a problem. He told me he was going to Home Depot to look for a solution to the problem. He returned with wire mesh that he showed to me and my wife. He said that would fix the problem. He then placed the mesh inside the pipe. This was witnessed by us so he did in fact place wire mesh in the pipe. This did NOT stop the draft coming through my vent. When he was advised that it didn't fix the draft, he told me he was going to speak with the owner. After repeated text messages and voice messages I still have not received a response from the owner on how he plans to fix this issue. I have had to place cardboard in my exhaust fan to prevent the cold air from entering my house
I just want the draft you created fixed
Sincerely,*** ***

Attached is the video that after months of searching for an active leak, even during no rain periods, we opened up the roof and discovered indeed it was a leaking pipe, plumbing issue that had nothing to do with roof.
The city of Shelton passed the roof inspection as did the PVC rep. which I included his letter in the last response.
[redacted] states in her last response that "faulty slope with lack of proper drainage" according to the roof evaluation by [redacted], which is what I had stated in my last response. Islander Roofing did NOT design nor alter this roofs architectural design. Nor did we remove the existing roofing system. Islander Roofing simply put a overlay over the existing roof already in place which is what [redacted] wanted and signed a contract for. [redacted] wanted to save money. After several conversations regarding the price, [redacted] decided to not remove existing roof. Not install new drainage system. And not have new flashing installed (fig 18 [redacted] report). in order to keep her costs as low as possible. Therefore these items were NOT within our contract.
[redacted] Report:
Fig. 1-12 show inside moisture damage (most of which was due to video I attached
Fig. 13 because we had been out several times for the faulty pipe later discovered, we did put that $1,200.00 drain cover on at no charge to [redacted] only to later find that leaking pipe ( above video)
Fig 14 that is siding going up a wall has nothing to do with roof! That siding is cracked and most likely a leak issue.
Fig 15 faulty slope no roof drainage system. We are not architectures and did not design buildings. We are not licensed for that type of work.
Fig 16,  We were out and re caulked  on December 21st Fig. 17 Resealed that on December 28th Fig. 20 resealed on December 21st.  Fig. 22 resealed on December 21st
Fig. 19, the conduit was originally lying on the roof surface
Fig 18, 21, [redacted] wanted to reuse flashing to lower the proposal
Fig. 23 The buisness is allowing the grease from kitchen fan to fall on roof
Fig. 24 As [redacted] states "evidence of mold from past damage (bldg #2) refer to fig 29, this is where [redacted]'s husband plugged the drain on purpose because the pipe leading out of building has been cracked for some time.
Fig 30 is not constricted, we checked
Fig 227 and 28, these are located in Bldg. #2. When were were there on Dec. 21 and Dec. 28th, [redacted] was not availabe to let us into that building so we could take a look at it. We will however contact her and set the appointment so that we may look at it.
