My husband and I waited for years to remodel our 1947 kitchen for a number of reasons, such as stories of contractors bailing on a job, of subcontractors doing only the minimum of what was required and/or putting your job on hold while they left to go work on another job. Also, I thought I was the one that had to come up with the design plan, appliances, style, etc. type of wood, flooring, etc. Ivy Enterprises was one of the recommendations made to us via our neighborhood website. Thank goodness for James I! He came over, and actually listened as we shared our ideas of the kind of kitchen we wanted. He was a easy to talk to, and literally took us by the hand and assured us that he could give us the kitchen we wanted. He and his entire crew, worked diligently in turning our older kitchen into a modern showcase kitchen! His crew would clean up everyday, and if something was amiss or not up to par after they left, we would call James and he would make sure one of the crew would come over the same day/night and make it right. We were so impressed with the way James treated us and his crew, both keeping us in the loop for decisions every inch of the way, we decided to have him work on our 2 bathrooms, Living room, dining room and spare bedroom! I would recommend James and his crew in a heartbeat!

Thank you so much for the review. We had an amazing time working on your project. I truly appreciate the loyalty, business and referrals you have sent our way. Your kitchen in particular is stunning and we are very proud of the results. Thank you again for the opportunity, words can not describe my gratitude. We are looking forward to the next project with you all. Happy New Year to you both!

My company has been working with Ivy Enterprises for the last couple of years and I continue to be impressed as I walk into each job, watch his interaction with clients and see the personal nature of his dealing with subcontractors. The quality of his workmanship and his ability to visualize the finished project even before beginning are both refreshing. Highly recommend.

Thank you so much for this recommendation. It is a privileged to do business with you. Your companies handling of our clients and their window treatment needs have been stellar, we could not ask for a better partner.

I have worked with Ivy Enterprises for both Business and Personal Remodeling projects. James and his team are very professional and amazing to work with. Ivy Enterprises has stood behind every project until the work was completed to my satisfaction. I would recommend this company to anyone looking to have their business redone or any type of home remodel. James has an amazing eye and was able to help me design my projects from our discussions and made my ideas come to life and turn out perfect.

From all of us at Ivy Enterprises, LLC we thank you so much for your trust, loyalty, referrals and continued business. It has been a pleasure to work with you over the years, and we look forward to our upcoming projects with you.

Our family loved working with James I and the staff at Ivy Enterprises during our recent remodel. James is the consummate professional who works to understand his clients’ design style and lifestyle needs, responds to requests/concerns in a timely manner and oversees team members and contractors who are competent, respectful and accommodating. Our multiple projects with Ivy Enterprises have exceeded our expectations in quality and level of service and we have since recommended his work to friends and neighbors. This is an outstanding company!

On behalf of myself and the entire team at Ivy Enterprises, LLC we thank you both for your trust, loyalty, referrals and continued business. It was such a pleasure to work with you both. We are deeply grateful for the opportunity and look forward to our next project together.

Our first experience with Ivy Enterprises LLC was in 2016 to repair roof work and exterior paint done by other companies. We did have bids for less, however, after his initial survey, Mr. Ivy provided a bid along with a written "scope of work" used during a scheduled walk through with his project manager. The work was completed, as documented, professionally and with quality!

With that experience, we followed the same process in 2017 for a completed remodel of our downstairs kitchen / living area that included: knocking down a wall for an "open concept" (approved, monitored and documented by an outside engineering company), installing wood flooring up and downstairs, new cabinetry, new stair railing and interior painting. We also took advantage of Mr. Ivy’s design services choosing new carpets, quartz, etc. that were a huge help. Of course there were issues, however, all were openly discussed and handled fairly and with integrity. The completed work is beautiful!

A special note, having many workers in and out over an extended period of time is stressful. At all times, Mr. Ivy and his team respected our home and personal space and safety.

Thank you for your trust, loyalty, referrals and the continued opportunities. Our working relationship has now spanned into its 3yr year, with multiple projects on the horizon over the next few months. We have enjoyed working with you both and are deeply grateful for the opportunity you have given us inside and outside your home. From all of us at Ivy Enterprises, LLC we thank you both!

James and his crew began an extensive remodel of our kitchen, guest bathroom, and replaced the flooring in the entire house, and re-roofed us. He did beautiful and exceptional work, but even beyond that, he stuck to his timeline. That was very important as we moved out to enable them to work more quickly and us to be more comfortable...as I was seven and a half months pregnant. We moved back in to our beautiful, finished home with our brand new baby right on schedule. Our house was also finished and painted in zero VOC paint products to make it safe for the new baby. (I didn’t even realize the importance of this, but James did...along with making sure we had smoke and carbon monoxide detectors up and functioning!!)

His design background and impeccable taste helped me create a stunning kitchen and bath that we enjoy every day. We enjoyed his professionalism, and his crews and vendors are top notch. We appreciated and enjoyed our experience, and we highly recommend him.

and ***, words can not express how much we enjoyed working with you both. Not only was this project fun from a design standpoint, but we all worked so well together. From the beginning your time line was critical due to the new baby on the way. The health of your family and the new born baby was so important in the process. From all of us at Ivy Enterprises, LLC we thank you both for your trust, loyalty, referrals and support. We are deeply grateful or the opportunity to have given us in your home.

We are repeat customers of James *** and Ivy Enterprises. I called James for what I thought was a minor repair in our master shower. Turns out when the home was built decades ago, the wrong materials were used. I was shocked at having to incur a major repair. Ivy Enterprises found the best materials available and worked with our budget. He repaired the master shower to today's high standards and now we have a showcase of a master bathroom. He is worth every penny and much more. Ivy Enterprises has installed new flooring throughout our entire home. He is the only one we will let touch our home. James is honest, keeps his word. I've referred him to all my neighbors. 5 of the 11 homes on our street have had work done by Ivy Enterprises.

We are so deeply grateful for the continued opportunities to work with you both. We have worked on so many projects together, spanning now over 4yrs. The kitchen project was amazing and the newly designed metal roof installation. Thank you both for your trust over the years, loyalty and referrals. It is such a pleasure to work with you both and handle all of your home remodeling and maintenance needs. From all of us at Ivy Enterprises, LLC, we are always here for you.

I was fortunate for have been recommended to Ivy Enterprises to take care of my insurance claim for the hail damage to my home. I loved working with James and his experienced and capable crew from start to finish. The repairs to my roof were completed quickly and efficiently; I had no issues allowing the crew into my home. When it came time to select a paint colour for the accent shutters and door, James suggested Navy to go with my grey brick. Of course I was hesitant not knowing if it would match, but now am happy because it really looks great. In addition, the outdoor light fixtures have been a choice. Neighbours have commented on how good the house looks now.
My next project was to replace my tired carpet with wood flooring. Once again, the floor colour was an excellent choice, fair pricing and the installation went without a hitch. I recommended James to a colleague after they saw photos of my floors and stairs. They chose Ivy Enterprise to have their floors, second bathroom remodeled as well as roof repairs for hail and interior storm damage. We have not hesitated to recommend Ivy Enterprises to any of our friends. No doubt, I will continue to work with James and his team on my future projects.

Cathy you have been such a joy to work with. Your entire home has been transformed with the new roof, exterior painting, shutters and lighting. The flooring added so much up the stairs and into the bedrooms, and works so great for the puppies. We are so deeply grateful for the continued opportunities, trust, loyalty and referrals. We are looking forward to our next 3 projects with you on the outside patio, fireplace and kitchen back splash. From all of us at Ivy Enterprises, LLC we thank you so much!

I hired James I to remodel my kitchen based on a project he had finished for a neighbor, (which I was impressed with). My kitchen was custom, and original to the house. The demo was done as if the whole house was coming down, including ripping out the window sill! The new cabinet frames were brought in, custom made by Ivy's team, however, the cabinets toe kick area did not meet the existing flooring leaving over an inch of slab exposed. There are more examples, with photos, of problems with my reno available at request. His drawings of my kitchen remodel were not adhered to, and when I complained about the placement of items, his team packed up and were not seen again, complete with removing his sign from my yard. I then was forced to hire another contractor as my kitchen was "down to the rafters". I have asked for a partial refund of down payment, but again, no reply. I can't help but feel that, as a widow, I was taken advantage of. Beware single ladies, this may not be the contractor for you.

Prior to commencing any work on the remodel of her kitchen, the home owner knowingly and willingly entered into a contract with Ivy Enterprises, L.L.C. (“Ivy”). The contract specified the scope and cost of the work, including specially fabricated cabinetry, and the order of process for construction. Prior to any work commencing, she approved the cabinetry design and the kitchen layout.
Prior to demolition, the home owner advised the Ivy team she would have quartz installed in her window sill and requested for the Ivy team to remove the sill. The demolition was carefully done in conjunction with the need to move, and install new, electrical and plumbing at the residence.
Although Ivy had already commenced the scope of work to be performed, unbeknownst to Ivy, the home owner hired a separate countertop company, selected her back-splash material from another company and hired her own plumber to perform work on the project without advising or consulting with Ivy. In addition, the home owner would demand the Ivy team stop the scheduled work, causing delays in the project from a logistics standpoint.
Throughout the project, the home owner insisted on dictating project management and having the work performed without regard for the logical order of construction or required inspections. Much of her requests were based on aesthetics rather than allowing rough in work to be completed and then address the aesthetics. A new gas line had to be placed in the ceiling in the garage as part of the Ivy scope of work. Upon placement of the new line, and before the required City inspection, the owner demanded the ceiling be patched and closed off. Upon arrival, the city inspector required the Ivy’s team open all prior ceiling cut outs, so he could view and pass the new gas line placement. The homeowner’s desire to dictate project management and change the agreed scope of work without notice to Ivy, placed the home owner in breach of her contract very early on in the project.
When the custom base cabinets were brought in for installation, the home owner decided to modify the original design, resulting in a change order and additional cost. To offset those costs, the home owner attempted to barter with Ivy’s lead cabinet carpenter by offering him a canoe and other camping equipment on her property, trying to circumvent Ivy financially.
On one occasion, the home owner called Ivy after hours demanding assistance with electrical items not part of the Ivy contract nor which were ever touched by the Ivy team while at the premises. The day after this late night phone call, she called demanding an electrician to her residence involving an AC breaker issue, none related to the scope of work the Ivy team was performing. After demanding and screaming at Ivy, while his lead project manager was in the vehicle with him, Ivy sent an electrician to her home. To date, the homeowner never inquired about the additional cost for these services rendered.
After the last meeting with the Ivy design team on July 24, 2017 the home owner advised the Ivy team consisting of 3 individuals with over 60 yrs., combined experience she would get back to them after meeting with her own designer. After receiving no response from the home owner and considering the parts of the original contract taken over by her, Ivy reached out by email advising how it would proceed, design layout based on her changes, additional cost and for what it would be responsible for to bring the project to completion. In response to the Ivy email, the home owner, in her own words, advised “I HAVE MOVED ON.” At the time the home owner did not ask for a refund or express any grievance with Ivy. At the time, Ivy’s cost ran over the initial deposit by several thousand dollars. In addition, when the home owner “MOVED ON” material, lighting equipment and a ladder remained on the property.
The home owners comment of feeling taken advantage of as a widow is outrageous considering the lengths taken to accommodate her demands which ran contrary to what she agreed, as well as attempting to assist her with issues that were not part of the scope of work for which Ivy Enterprises, L.L.C. was there to perform.

Customer Response • Apr 19, 2018

Yes I, the homeowner, did willingly and knowingly enter into a contract with James I. Regarding the cabinetry and design, I did not put much stock in the hand drawn layout because there were to be matching built-in open shelves on either side of the family room side of the kitchen wall which was indicated on the drawing. The drawing showed them to be mirror images of each other (drawing available). However, on July 24, 2017, when we were discussing cook-top placement, I said I wanted it centered as opposed to shifted left, which is how it showed on the drawing. I pointed out to them that the drawing didn’t “read” accurately because they cut the one wall down to 12” wide for the open shelf, and the other open shelf wall to 30” wide, (both walls were to be 30” wide). When I pointed this out to the team with over 60 years’ experience, the team didn’t say another word and left my house. Spoke with James Ivy on the 28th of July, he said his cabinet maker was working on cabinets. I texted on August 1st to get an update, I said he would respond via email. Didn’t hear from him, and his business sign had been removed from my yard. I sent an email on August 14, 2017 stating “I had been aware he was sick”. I was not aware. I had not received any information from I, or his team stating such, and I assumed, since his sign had been removed, he had quit the job. I replied I had moved on since I had no word from I for weeks, and the sign had been removed.
From the very beginning I never said, or intended to have, a quartz window sill. Never was that discussed with the quartz/counter-top people. I advised I at the very beginning that I had chosen my counter-tops, and would take care of that myself. At our very first meeting I kept referring to granite counter-tops, and I keep reminding him my counter-tops would not be granite, and that I had that covered. He said that was fine. Less than two weeks after beginning demo the counter-top people and I cabinet person were to meet to obtain template for counter-tops. I was aware of counter-tops from the beginning. When he had me sign a granite estimate on February 22, 2017, I reminded him again I was not doing granite counter-tops. He said he understood, that it was just a formality indicating there was to be plumbing associated with counter-tops regarding sink installation under the counter-top, along with dishwasher hookup.
In regard to the gas line inspection, I had hot air blowing in from the attic space. I asked when it would be closed in, or could a temporary cover be placed over the hole during the overnight hours. I can’t imagine any contractor would close up a space prematurely knowing that an inspection had to occur. I was not advised of the timeline for the inspection, or given an explanation of the situation. That is exactly why I would not recommend Ivy to any single lady wanting a remodel. I feel that had there been a man in the house, these items would have been discussed.
I*** states I modified the original design of the cabinets. I did stop the work on the new cabinet install when I saw that the cabinets did not meet the existing floor. The new cabinets did not occupy the same foot print as the old cabinets leaving a gap between existing flooring and the toe kick thereby exposing well over an inch of concrete slab that is under the hardwood flooring (pictures available). The cabinet maker said the cabinets were already finished, and that he could not go back and make them deeper, therefore, the toe kick would not be able meet the existing flooring.
I did not “barter” with the cabinet builder about a canoe. Why would I even mention a canoe? He saw some oars and life jackets in my garage, and asked if I had a boat. I told him I had a canoe but didn’t keep it at my house as I didn’t use it. He told me he was always in the market for another “water vessel”, and asked me to take pictures so he could see what kind it was, and that he might be interested in it. I did. Regarding that, I was concerned the small wall left at the sink area would not hold the large slab of quartz I had planned, so I told the cabinet builder he could build a couple of cabinets on the back side of the sink that would help hold the weight of the quartz slab in trade for the canoe. He said he would ask his wife if he could bring another “water vessel” home. Apparently she said no.
Regarding the electrical stuff, the electrician stepped on and broke my pool plumbing while working at the electrical box. I’m sure it was accidental, but none the less, it happened. Also the “bubbler” had been broken and was spewing water. I had to have my pool person out to repair the pool equipment before the pool pump could be turned on again (invoice for repair available as well as the broken parts and pictures). Also, the breaker box was wired incorrectly as demonstrated by a fuse blowing every time I tried to use the air-conditioning. Called I that evening, but was told he couldn’t get his guy out that evening. It was not my fault the wrong fuse was used, and I did not want to sleep without AC. I called my usual AC person who came over, looked at the new electrical box and stated the new fuse was not the proper kind. My AC person put a new fuse in and the AC worked fine (again, invoice available). I electrician was not a licensed electrician at the time of my remodel.
Ivy mentioned I had my own designer, I did/do not. I had a vision of what I wanted. One of those visions was to have my electrical outlets placed 1 – 2” above the counter-tops. This detail was stated over and over again. After installation of the electrical boxes, I came home to see that they were placed 6 inches above where the counter-top would hit. They also were installed vertically, I asked for them to be placed horizontally. They had to be moved.
One of the reasons I choose Ivy was because of the nice job he had done for a neighbor (whose husband was home during the project). On one of Ivy’s visits to my job site, I mentioned that this neighbor client had a water leak that was flooding the alley. He demanded to go out my fence gate onto the alley to take a look. He, right then and there, called his plumber to come over immediately to take a look at what was leaking and fix it. It was at that time, he told me I could call anytime, day or night. He said “once a client, he was always available”.
