Review: My family contracted J & A Island wide to install a new drive way at our home in September of 2011. After the drive way was installed we had numerous problems with it settling. In addition, we were left with inferior workmanship in areas such as asphalt on our bricks and lawn, our garage doors ect. After working through the process, we have numerous text messages with the owner ( saved) indicating problems with the drive way cracking. We have received one phone call back over 6 months. We did receive text messages about people in hospitals, dying and other personal matters, but no attempt of resolution. We currently have to areas on our driveway that need repair and believe that for the money we were charged, they should honor their work. We will gladly disclose pictures and text messages if requiredDesired Settlement: We interviewed the owner of the company and were assured that this job would get her personal attention. After she took our money, we never saw here here again. Her guys came, did the job and left. I asked her repeatedly to come and look at the job. We still believe that a professional company would take care of its mistakes and would appreciate J and A doing the same

In response to the above complaint, please be advised [redacted] had his driveway installed Oct. *, 2011 and there were absolutely no complaints at all. A year later, as recommended we sealcoated the driveway for $100. It was then, that [redacted] complained but due to Hurricance Sandy our season ended earlier than normal so we agreed to handle it in the Spring

When Spring arrived, [redacted] called several times. I explained to him that at that time I was dealing with a family crisis but that as soon as I could I would address the issue. Approximately two weeks later he called and asked to have the $100 refunded and said he'd find someone else to handle it. Since I was still in the middle of dealing with a family mmber's illness I agreed and refunded his monies.

Regardless, in June due to circumstances beyond my control I was forced to closed J & A Island Wide in order to care for a family member. Even so, [redacted] was not covered for his complaints and I've attached a copy of the contract as well as the Corporate Dissolution. I am truly sorry if he is upset but the company is closed.

Review: I had a blacktop driveway and walkway installed by j and a islandwide last year. There is improper drainage and a sinkhole has now formed. I have left messages and written emails to company and no return correspondence has taken place.Desired Settlement: To repair problems with the drainage and structure of the blacktop.

With regard to this complaint, please be advised we paved this driveway May *, 2012 and provide a one year guarantee. The customer complained within the month after installation that there was an area that was rough, and further complained of tire marks. Both of these items are not covered as part of our warranty (refer to paragraph 6 of contract), however, we agreed to repair and sealcoat the driveway free of charge at a later date. The customers were impatient and did not take in to account that it is never recommended that the driveway be sealed within a year of installation as it does not allow the asphalt to properly age and harden and adversely effects the asphalt. Rather than wait for us to sealcoat and repair the driveway at the proper time, they opted to hire another company to do so and therefore, voided their warranty alltogether. Unfortunately, once they introduced another company after the fact and prevented us from handling this matter properly they canceled our guarantee, as we have no idea what materials were used, if it was done properly and either way was used before it was recommended.

I apologize for this unfortunate circumstance but there is nothing that can be done on our end at this point. If you should have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

In response to the reply from J and A Islandwide, we never had any additional work completed on our driveway from another company. We had an estimate done but, J and A Islandwide is the only company that has ever worked on our driveway. We still have not had it sealcoated. The contract states that asphalt is guaranteed for one year against cracks. The problem at hand is a sinkhole that has formed on back patio that is getting larger and larger. Not a crack, or rough patch, or tire marks, an expanding sinkhole. We are hoping to having this matter resolved in a timely and professional matter.

Please be advised [redacted] defintely advised our company that she hired another company to do work for her. Please further note that they had removed trees and brush form their back yard. This is one of the reasons we have Paragratph 6 of our contract which covers us against that which we cannot see or have knowledge of.

Regardless, in June 2013 J & A Island Wide has officially closed due to circumstances beyond my control, so that I am able to care for and ill family member.

The complaint against J and A Islandwide has not been resolved. From our correspondence it is clear to see that. The company continues to reference a contract that Im not sure exists, at least I have never received a copy nor signed anything. They are clearly not interested in standing by their product or quality of service. It is not a surprise that they are out of business. Please log this as an UNRESOLVED complaint. Thank you.
