J Allison Construction Reviews (%countItem)

Hired to do basic home remodeling and repair and repaint patio walls. New paint bubbled and peeled off the patio wall. Approximately, 28 rotten studs were not replaced, no insulation was installed, no rotted drywall was replaced, new exterior wall & water barrier did not extend 1" below the foundation, and new patio door does not open & close properly-sticks. Did not paint doors that were supposed to be painted, busted garage-door opener, left nails all over the property including the bathroom, and busted thick-gauged (.08) aluminum blinds on 4 windows, did not paint moldings at the base of the walls and left the house without proper electrical power. Left ceramic tile glue on my garage floor - permanently stains the surface. Poor fit and finish on moldings he installed on the exterior patio wall. Did not replace quarter-round in specific kitchen areas. Installed a number of pieces of new ceramic tile that were chipped - should have just set them aside and used a better piece of tile. Did not properly install new dishwasher causing it to leak all over the kitchen. Claimed that he was "the best in the business," but in my opinion his repairs were not consistent with such boasting. Had to have the job completely redone by a different contractor.

J Allison Construction Response

Patio:

I poin*** out to *** the termite damage to the exterior paneling, he was preparing to sell this house he inheri***, He wasn't interes*** in spending alot of money so I quo*** him in my proposal a fix ds to prevent a termite inspector from calling him out on this area.

He said it was permi***, I dont,- The area was used as a storage room, it had shelves with paint, oils and car parts. It had no heat or air source. The walls were not insula***, I did not offer to insulate. I removed siding, lowered dirt grade, the cause of the problem. I removed termite dirt from between studs and one or two most damaged 2x4s. I trea*** existing 2xs with insecticide. The remaining 2x's structural sound enough to nail the siding to. After all the patio roof is carried by 4x beam and posts. If I had offered to replace studs then I would have had to replace drywall. I only proposed to patch at sills and paint existing. His door as well as his blinds (20+ years) were deteriora***, looked by the sun + winters - Funny he replaced all interior window coverings, but wan*** to save old blinds? I did exactly what I proposed and at a fare $.

Garage opener:

We used the opener + garage. It worked for us, it worked when he returned.

Electrical:

We had no problems with ele power while working there.

Painting:

He had pain*** sampel colors on one wall in every room but livingroom. I pain*** those walls to match existing. I also pain*** dining and kitchen. I also repared areas on walls & sills and pain*** those. Did not offer to paint interior door, but believes touched up one. I did not offer to paint existing or new baseboards, although new boards were white All for $600-??

Baseboards:

I installed some new and replaced any that was removed.

Tile:

I installed 282 sq.ft. of Floor tile, He said he loved it.

Counter Tile:

He asked if I could replace some cracked counter tiles (Field Tiles). We do not install chipped tile. The rough edge is where his original slid in range covered this area. his new floor oven will not cover this area (there is no cap) $100

Dishwasher did not leak when we tes*** it?

Glue/Nails? I don't know. He accused me once of leaving my underwear on his garage floor.

I believe *** got caught by an inspector and was forced to open that patio wall and revealing the termite issue.

I have been a contractor for over 40 years. I don't cheat people. I gave him what he paid for and more.

I'm sure he has photos, reports etc. that can be sent to me or you-

Customer Response

I am rejecting this response because: Repairs were not satisfactory or in accord with original agreement. Furthermore, Mr. Allison never responded to, or complied with a request from my attorney Diana J. Carloni, dated 2-15-17, to meet us at the property "to go over a punch list of items that appear to need repair and/or replacement." If he had done everything as promised and at the level of a licensed professional contractor why didn't he meet with us to solve these problems? The fact remains that his new paint work on the interior of the patio peeled off, it faded on the exterior, there was not any installation installed, but he said there was in his comments under "patio - dated 2-8-17, only 2 or 3 studs were replaced, even though they were all rotted out ; including the main 4x4 support beam. Evidence is substantial to support these claims.
