Review: We purchased a used fridge on January **, 2014 from Island at their smaller location in [redacted] which has since closed. The fridge was $259.00 plus tax. We were only given a 90 day warranty. The fridge died around New Year's Day of this year. We had [redacted] Appliance come to look at it. [redacted] from [redacted] told us that the fridge was sold to us as defective and had a "hard start" put on the compressor which is only a temporary fix. [redacted] said he was surprised that the fridge lasted almost a year. The technician asked us where we bought it and offered to even stop there to speak with them because he felt bad that we were taken advantage of. He gave us a written report explaining the defective fridge and said it was even dangerous and could possibly be a fire hazard. I have called Island several times and have spoken to [redacted] who has been rude and nasty and would not help me. I have left several messages for the [redacted] to call me and he has not returned my calls. I was even told by [redacted] that I should consider myself lucky that the fridge lasted a year.Desired Settlement: We would like a refund of our money and do not wish to have another fridge since we do not trust their products or appreciate their customer service.

Review: I put a $250 deposit down on an appliance three years ago. I was told it was no longer available in the time between paying the balance and picking up the item. They had nothing else I needed and refused to give me my refund. I spoke with the owner Joe, I believe his name was. He reassured me that regardless of time frame they would honor my deposit. After all of my belongings were lost in a flood, I contacted the owner again and he once again reassured me via phone that he had me on file in the computer and would honor my $200 deposit when I needed in appliance from the store. He still refused to give me my refund. I called the store today looking to use my credit and they would not honor it. They claimed it was a new owner and they had no access to the paperwork.

Review: I purchased a used Whirlpool Gold Washing Machine in November 2013, in January 2014 the washing machine stop rinsing and spinning, they fixed it under the 90 day warrantee and stated it's fixed then in May 2013 the same issue happened again. I spoke with [redacted] and [redacted] he said even though it was the same problem I had to pay for it so then I said to pick it up on Tuesday, May [redacted] said there was no record of me purchasing the washing machine from them even though [redacted] said he had a record that I purchased it from the [redacted] office and he was the person that sold me the washing machine. I called [redacted] to confirm that he has a record of me paying for the washing machine several time but he never answered the line. I just want them to take it back at this point it is a piece of junk. The money I spent on pick up and delivery I could have just bought a new one. They are very unprofessional and rude.Desired Settlement: I would like a refund and I would gladly return their washing machine to them asap.

Review: I purchased a refrigerator from Island Discount Appliance on the [redacted] of February and by March [redacted] the appliance no longer cooled in either the freezer or the fridge.. I called the store and they told me that I would have to bring the appliance physically to the store in order to repair it as well as pay the delivery to and from the store. It had been only 7 days that the appliance was in my home. The woman told me that there would not be enough room to have the appliance repaired at my home (she has never been inside my home) and that I would have to pay-- there is also a no refund policy only exchange -- Which you have to pay to have the appliances delivered back and forth. Island Appliance is running a scam charging $89 for delivery each way. There is no reason why I have to pay when the appliance isn't working properly. Never mind the fact that there so called "delivery" people dropped the fridge in the foyer of my building as well as ripped my vinyl flooring in my kitchen (which now has to be replaced) This company has caused me nothing but headache and I have lost about $200 worth of food as a result.Desired Settlement: I would like Island Appliance to come and take their junky appliance and refund me my money so I can actually go purchase something that will work!

Review: I purchased a washer from Island Discount Appliances and was assured that the washer was inspected and worked before I bought it. I used the washer once and found out that it leaked. When I called to have the washer repaired I was told that someone would be out the next day (Monday) to pick the washer up to have it repaired. The next day came & went and no one showed up. When I called them about this I was told that they just hired a new tech and he would be able to repair my washer in my house, and he should be there the next day. The next day came and went and no one showed up again. On day 3 I called and was told that the new tech was behind in his schedule and he would definitely be there on Thursday. I called early thursday morning to make sure the tech was coming at that point I was told that he was starting in Nassau county and should be to my house by 1pm. At 1pm I called back to see where the tech was and was told that by the time he got to me he it would be 9pm, so I would have to wait until Friday at which point my machine would be replaced. I made a point of telling the gentleman who said he was the owner that I wanted they same type of machine, a Kenmore and if the tech wasn't there to replace my machine at a reasonable hour I wanted my money back, to which he agreed.

On Friday the Tech finally got there with my new machine. Saturday morning I did a load of laundry and found that this machine leaked worse than the last one. I couldn't wait to get my laundry done so I put towels down to deal with the leak after three normal sized loads of laundry the machine stopped working altogether. When I called the store back to get a refund he said there were no refunds only exchanges. Now, I ask you, why would I want ANOTHER washing machine from the same place that already gave me 2 bad ones.

I believe they are misrepresenting their machines and I believe some of them may be Hurricane Sandy leftovers. I would like them investigated so no one else has to go through this.

We are a used appliance store. [redacted] Purchased a washer, After a few weeks she called claiming the washer was leaking. Our store policy is that the item must be returned to us if there happens to be any issues with the appliance with in 90 days of purchase we will fix it free of charge. If the item isn't repairable we give the customer another item to replace the original item free of charge. [redacted] however refuse to do so. SO to make her happy we sent another unit there she then claims the washer is doing the same thing. [redacted] did not want to comply with our terms and procedures as we agreed when the item was bought. I explained that the item must be brought to us and I would not send another. I do not know the plumbing situation in [redacted] house and therefore don't understand why her original washer was leaking and the 2 she got from us was also. She may have plumbing issues in her home or drainage maybe clogged but that is not our responsibility to fix these issues.

All our terms and condition are on her receipt that she initials and signs off on and we make it very clear to all our customers our policy.

Review: I purchased a refrigerator from Island Discount Appliance/J & L Appliance on 6/**/14, and was told it had been checked out and did indeed work fine. I was told it would be delivered on 6/**/14. It was delivered on 6/**/14 after many phone calls.After the delivery men plugged it in on 6/**/14, it did not work. I was told it takes 1-2 days for the refrigerator to cool.It is now 6 days later and the refrigerator is not cool and nothing is freezing.I e-mailed them on 6/** and 6/**/14, called them on 6/** and 6/**/14. [redacted] told me on 6/** that a technician, [redacted], would come out and fix the refrigerator since it did not work at all.On 6/**/14 I was told [redacted] would get back to me.This refrigerator was not checked out when it left their store or they would have found out it did not cool or freeze.I also purchased a dryer from them that did not work correctly. I thought I just purchased the wrong dryer from them. Since then I have found out that MANY of the appliances they sell do not work correctly or work at all.As of today, 6/**/14, I have not heard from them.Desired Settlement: I do not believe they are a reputable company and can or will be able to repair the refrigerator.Since I do not trust them I would like a refund for the refrigerator and the $50.00 delivery charge.

Review: I purchased a Frigidaire Gallery Stackable Washer and Dryer on March [redacted], 2014. I paid $125.00 to have the unit delivered on 3/**/14. I was told by [redacted], the [redacted] that he washer and dryer would have all hoses included (hot, cold, and drain hose), also stated on receipt that was signed. No hoses were provided. I had to purchase the hoses myself. [redacted] refused to mail the items not received to me. The Dryer malfunctioned the first time using it. Clothing getting stuck in front drum, causing clothing to rip and burn. Several clothing items of mine and my family were destroyed. This is a fire hazard. On 3/**/14, I was told by [redacted] that the company is unable to send out a repair person to fix the faulty machine. I was told that [redacted] is unavailable, and no solution could be offered.Desired Settlement: I would like an exchange, a full refund with item pickup at company's expense, or a repair person from the company to come to my home to fix the product.
