I live in an apartment complex where this company is notorious for towing vehicles, in my opinion, legally or notAlthough there have been numerous complaints by residents, our rental office continues to support and defend themButthat is another issueWhat prompted me to write this review is an incident that occurred the early hours of August 10, My brother fell ill, was rushed to the hospital and admittedHis wife, wanting to stay at the hospital with him, brought their children over to the apartment for me to watchOnce my brother was settled at the hospital, she comes to pick up the children, which was around amShe parked on the parking lot of my complex and came in to pithe childrenShe was only in the house no longer than 10-minutes, only to go outside to find her truck had been towedThe towing was an issueyes, but it is what followed that has me posting this complaintWe called the company to inquire where the vehicle had been towed, so she could go to retrieve the truck and the reason why it was towed, The guy on the phone representing the company was very rude and abruptly hung up after tossing out the addressWe called back repeatedly, but the phone kept going to voice mailWe were trying to find out if a person would be there at this time of hourWith no answer, we decided to chance it and I had a neighbor give us a rideWhile en route, I continued to call and finally the same guy picked upWe informed him we were on our way to pay for the towing and pick up the vehicleHe said he would arrange for someone to meet us there, someone who lived in Clinton MDWe informed him that we had children in the car hoping that would expedite a sooner rather than later appearanceWe expected to wait, but not hoursWe waited and calledwaited and called, butagain, no one picked up the phoneFinally, we decided to call it quits, my sister-in-law came back to my houseShe had to call off work in the morning until she could go back out to the towing site to retrieve her truckI truly believe no one showed up because she would only have had to pay the towing fee and an hour storageInstead, I feel they made her wait until they could collect the towing fee and a number of storage hoursIn total she paid $It my understanding that the fee of $was for towing and $for less than hours of storage (for which they were at fault)I also feel it was inconsiderate to not consider this woman's situation with her childrenI would have respected the guy on the phone telling us to go back home as no one would be available until a certain time, but that did not occurHe knew the children were with herThis company has bad business, as well as moral ethicsUnfortunately, I cannot speak on the towing issue, as I am not well versed in towing laws; however, I wouldn't be surprised, with the time frame between my in-law leaving her car and returning, the tower must have seen her drive in and jumped at the opportunity to empty someone's walletIt's a sick businessIt's a shame you can't visit family or have an emergency without getting up every minutes to check on your carTotally ludicrous!

My vehicle has disabled veterans handicap hard tags The car was parked legally in a handicapped spot at hhgregg in Landover, MD J & L Towing took my vehicle Our salesman called to get the car back but was hung up onI called the company myself and calmly explained to the gentleman that the "DV" tags in the state of MD are also handicapped tags and that he needed to bring the vehicle back He got very rude with me saying the tags were not handicapped plates and that he would have to research about the plates and give me a call back The tow operator didn't call back on my phone but called to my father's phone (he called the towing company earlier as well but didn't get an answer) to say he was bringing the car back and to let bygones be bygonesStressful situation and we came out lucky not paying robbery fees but tow operators ought to know exactly what license plates they need to see before they tow from a handicap spot They need to know the law and not just see $

Review: On May 1, 2014 my car was taken because the tags were dead. I understand they had the right to take my car, so I called that same day to inquire of price and means to retrieve my car. It would have been $175 for that day, I inquired about the price for the next day, was told it would be $225. I asked if I needed to call before coming to get my car, I was told no, I could get it between 9am-4pm. I asked if they could tow my car to where I needed it to go, they said they did not tow to that area, so I hired another tow truck company. I went on May 2, 2014 to retrieve my car. When I was given the address, it was not the address in [redacted]. The address was [redacted] in [redacted], Md. I could not find the location and called to find out how far away I was. I was on [redacted]. I was told 2 minutes up the road. The man told me he would be there in 20-25 minutes because he was in [redacted]. When I arrived to the location of my car, there was no address on the fence. I had to call the tow truck company that I hired to alert him to the location, I saw the truck turn around two times. The tow company I hired and myself had to wait approximately 50 minutes for J & L towing to arrive for me to get my car. I called [redacted], the boss of the truck I hired to let him know what was going on. He said his truck had no choice but to wait so I could get my car.

When J & L arrived I asked him was there any way I could get a discount since we had to wait so long for him to get there. He told me no, that the amount was $225. I needed my car so I paid him. When the truck I hired was getting ready to load my car (I forgot my keys) he asked the J & L driver if he could put my car out of the lot on the fence so that I could go and get my keys. He did not want to drag my car onto his flat bed w/out the keys so that my transmission would not get messed up. J & L told him no, his truck was in position, to hurry up and put my car on his flat bed because he had to get back to [redacted]. I refused to get rude with the J & L driver, we had waited ALMOST AN HOUR for him, then he wanted to rush us!!

I think it was very unprofessional of J & L to have me waiting (for I had to have some one drive me there, my car's battery was dead and even if it weren't I cannot drive with dead tags, and the person who took me had other appointments) when I had asked previously if I needed to call in advance and was told no. They should have SOMEONE at that lot from 9am-4pm since they told me to come between those hours to get my car. That just was not good business.Desired Settlement: I feel that since I had to pay them cash, I should receive the discount I requested. Because of their bad business practice of making me wait in the heat for almost an hour, with the tow truck company I had to hire ($145) I should be entitled to the $50 for the second day that they charged me. I would request that they pay part of my $145 too, since that company I am sure lost out on some money because they had to wait with me, but I will not go over board. I want to be fair, and a refund of the $50 I think is fair. Thank you for your time.

Review: I am formally filing a complaint against this company for the misuse of their authority to tow cars of Homeowners who pay Homeowner assosciation fee's for for the assigned spacing in cars. J&L towing does not routinely do their job for the development, and they abuse their power to tow for reasons outside of what they were brought into the development for, vehicles not belonging to the visitors of Homeowners and vehicles with out the proper display after a certain time. The service is sporadic not consistent and baiting while preying on those who pay them. Their customer service is rude and unprofessional, almost threatening and intimidating. Your propert is not properly stored to prevent damage and is subject to such damage if happen to be un lucky.Desired Settlement: This is a Horrific business with a terrible practice, I would like for my money that was taking for retrieving my car refunded , also this company should be looked into for their misuse of power and bad practice and dealt with accordingly.

Review: My car was towed on 4/1/14 @ 11:00pm. When I got my car back I notice that next morning that the in side by my tire where the tow company lift people car up at. My finder was cracked so when I got home from work that day I called them to let them no that there lifter part cracked my finder part by my back door on the passenger side. the guy was so so rude and said Oh that's not his problem once you pick up your car that's your problem now. So at that point I didn't argue with him I just called my insurance company and filed a police report.Desired Settlement: I want my car repair for the damage that they did to it and my refund back because of how horrible there customer service was. Really this company need to be shut down because I and several of people in this complex have seen them pick up peoples cars with there machine damage and drop the cars because they were trying to hurry up and leave. I remember one guy car was a silver infinti the tow man lift his car up in the air and drop it

Review: Vehicle was impounded by this company and was not done within Maryland tow laws. I called them and read word for word what the law states, the company still refused to give any kind of a refund and insisted that this matter could go to civil court.Desired Settlement: Refund for the full bill of $175.00

Review: This company has terrible customer service! My vehicle was towed early this morning at 1:15 by a driver who signed his name as "R." His number in the "requested by" box was [redacted]. His truck number was [redacted]. His P.O. number was [redacted]. It was towed from the [redacted] Apartments in Laurel, MD and taken to your makeshift parking lot in [redacted], MD. The reason that your employee towed my vehicle was because he claimed that there was no parking permit, when, in actuality, there was. Unfortunately, I realized (after having arrived) that the dealership that serviced my vehicle yesterday had placed a tag over the permit. Anyway, prior to my arrival, I tried numerous times to contact your company at the following number: 301-574-0065 to which there was no answer. Finally, a few minutes after 8am, a man answered. When I asked him to send me the pictures that they took of my vehicle, he responded by saying, "Ma'am I don't have time for that I got other people on the phone." You don't have time to send me proof, yet you still want my $175? And won't allow me to see my car until I give you $175? INAPPROPRIATE AND UNPROFESSIONAL! And individuals wonder why NO ONE likes tow truck drivers- they all are ALWAYS trying to take advantage and rip people off.Desired Settlement: Refund my $175

If you are in search of towing services, do not make the mistake of choosing J&L Towing and Recovery. They have consistently proven themselves to be unreliable, and unprofessional in providing towing services. It has been a very negative experience and I would not recommend them to anyone.

False information posted on tow sign at south pointe apartments in MD. Per sign able to recover vehicle 24 hours a day 7 days a week. When contacted tow company was informed that they don't let people on the lot for security reasons

Review: I am writing to you to express my displeasure with J& L towing company. J&L company towed my car under the premise that I did not have a parking permit when I did in actual fact. A friend of mine and I decided to follow the towing company in order to collect my car . Just to find that the driver had parked my car couple blocks away from the premise where he initially towed the car. When we arrived on the scene and I introduced myself as the owner of the car . My first reaction was why is my car not directly being sent to the J&L company and is parked on the streets. I was then surprised to see that the driver's door of my car open when I remenber carefully locking my car prior this event. One astonishing fact worth noting was that the other passenger's doors were still closed . I also realized that my parking permit was not on the review mirror where I had positioned it initially prior this event but was rather near the passenger front seat of the car. The Towing person was not courteous when I tried questioning him about these inconsistent facts and told me that I either pay the $175 fee to get the car now or collect the car in the morning from their office. My friend and I ended up paying the fee because I needed my car immediately. I want to file a complaint against the towing company and get the fee reimbursed as soon as possible. I also wanted to make you aware of the situation and the unscrupulous way J&L towing company tries to make money out of your residents. To prove my point I took some pictures as proof that I can gladly share with you. Hoping to find a solution to this urging matter.

Best RegardsDesired Settlement: I would like to get a refund for the $175 paid.

Review: I had a vehicle towed from the parking lot without proper authorization under Maryland state laws. I called the tow company and they stated between certain hours having someone to sign off on the tow is not necessary which I don't believe is trueDesired Settlement: My money back for the tow(175 dollars) and a discontinuation of this practice

I live in an apartment complex where this company is notorious for towing vehicles, in my opinion, legally or not. Although there have been numerous complaints by residents, our rental office continues to support and defend them. But... that is another issue. What prompted me to write this review is an incident that occurred the early hours of August 10, 2015.
My brother fell ill, was rushed to the hospital and admitted. His wife, wanting to stay at the hospital with him, brought their 3 children over to the apartment for me to watch. Once my brother was settled at the hospital, she comes to pick up the children, which was around 12 am. She parked on the parking lot of my complex and came in to pick-up the children. She was only in the house no longer than 10-15 minutes, only to go outside to find her truck had been towed.
The towing was an issue... yes, but it is what followed that has me posting this complaint. We called the company to inquire where the vehicle had been towed, so she could go to retrieve the truck and the reason why it was towed, The guy on the phone representing the company was very rude and abruptly hung up after tossing out the address. We called back repeatedly, but the phone kept going to voice mail. We were trying to find out if a person would be there at this time of hour. With no answer, we decided to chance it and I had a neighbor give us a ride.
While en route, I continued to call and finally the same guy picked up. We informed him we were on our way to pay for the towing and pick up the vehicle. He said he would arrange for someone to meet us there, someone who lived in Clinton MD. We informed him that we had children in the car hoping that would expedite a sooner rather than later appearance. We expected to wait, but not 2 hours. We waited and called... waited and called, but... again, no one picked up the phone. Finally, we decided to call it quits, my sister-in-law came back to my house. She had to call off work in the morning until she could go back out to the towing site to retrieve her truck.
I truly believe no one showed up because she would only have had to pay the towing fee and an hour storage. Instead, I feel they made her wait until they could collect the towing fee and a number of storage hours. In total she paid $175. It my understanding that the fee of $75 was for towing and $100 for less than 10 hours of storage (for which they were at fault). I also feel it was inconsiderate to not consider this woman's situation with her children. I would have respected the guy on the phone telling us to go back home as no one would be available until a certain time, but that did not occur. He knew the children were with her.
This company has bad business, as well as moral ethics. Unfortunately, I cannot speak on the towing issue, as I am not well versed in towing laws; however, I wouldn't be surprised, with the time frame between my in-law leaving her car and returning, the tower must have seen her drive in and jumped at the opportunity to empty someone's wallet. It's a sick business.
It's a shame you can't visit family or have an emergency without getting up every 5 minutes to check on your car. Totally ludicrous!
