August 14, 2015Dear [redacted] BBB Representative,This letter is in response to the notification that J&L Heating and Air Conditioning received from the BBB.On the 13th of June 2015, we did run service call at [redacted] Inwood, WV. The technician found a bad dual run capacitor on the... outdoor unit. The price of replacement was quoted and the repairs authorized by the customer. After completing repairs the system was started and the operationally checked. It was explained to the customer that because of the bad run capacitor that the motors both the condenser fan and compressor may have been damaged.On the 14th of June 2015, we received a call back from the customer that the system was not operating again. The technician returned and found a burnt wire in the outdoor unit. The new run capacitor was checked, and while blackened from the burnt wire it was still operational, it was determined that the condenser fan motor had failed and the compressor was over heated. Cold water was used to cool the compressor, but the technician could not get the internal overload to reset. J&L Heating and Air Conditioning did quote replacement of the system and/or compressor.Unfortunately the compressor diagnosis was incorrect. J&L Heating and Air Conditioning always performs the work we do in the most professional manner possible. This does not however leave us impervious to mistakes.J&L Heating and Air Conditioning would like to express our deepest apologizes to the customer for this oversight and would like to note it was not intentional. However the only repair that the customer was charged for and paid was in fact a correct repair. The failing of the condenser fan motor was a result of poor annual maintenance over many years by the customer, not the actions of J&L Heating and Air Conditioning.If the customer in question would like to return the dual run capacitor to J&L Heating and Air Conditioning, with proof of it being defective, and we are allowed to retest it as well and it is determined to be bad. J&L Heating and Air Conditioning will refund the cost of the dual capacitor replacement. That would be $165.00.Over the next several days we were in contact with the customer several times by phone. The customer was very disrespectful during every interaction over the phone. On or about 6/23/15 the customer came to our office as she had stated in her letter. However she failed to mention that she became very aggressive toward everyone and was asked to leave. She was asked to leave at least three times because of her behavior and still refused. She eventually left the office and claimed she was assaulted and was going to call the police. The management at J&L Heating and Air Conditioning did welcome her to call the police but still needed her to vacate the property. The customer did contact the police and they arrived sometime shortly after. After hearing both sides of the story, J&L was cleared by the police officer of any assault on the customer and were informed that we could have physically removed her from the property after her refusal to comply.All of us here at J&L Heating and Air Conditioning conduct ourselves professionally at all times and in all aspects of the business we conduct. However we will not allow any of our employees to be subjected to the hostile rants and disrespectful actions of any individual unwilling to conduct themselves in a professional manner in order to resolve any disputes.
